'08/'09 season thread or something.

Thanks for the advice, I've really wanted to hit this place for years. We usually go to areas where we can get to several mountains within a few hrs drive. Will Steamboat have enough for a 5-6 day trip (inbounds). I've never gone out of bounds except for a snow cat trip at Powder last year. I think we could be up to it if we had a guide and the proper equipement. Now I just have to get out of the hospital and get in shape. See my post here http://www.mtbnj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6424&page=6

IMO no, I was there for a 5 day trip in '03 and found myself kind of bored by the end. Then again we went on the one nonsnowy week where we only had one 6" storm the entire time. I guess cause of that I have a low opinion of the place. Still they don't have enough advanced inbounds terrain there to keep things interesting for a full week.

Wherever I go, the fresh snow is someplace else. Heavenly, Jackson Hole, Squaw Valley and Beaver Creek. Well, I got a little bit at Beaver Creek. Anyway, I say look for a place that will be fun for you if the snow isn't fresh and you'll have a great time no matter what🙂

has anyone done silverton. i am actually planning on going there this year...finally

want to hear some experiences

^ Let me know how Silverton is, it's on my short list and Id love to hear some stories.

Has anyone ever been to Snowshoe, West Virginia? It looks like it's only about a 4 hr drive or so for me now. Is it worth a weekend trip?

I've always wanted to hit this place when the lake is hitting them... Has anyone ever tried it? Terrain wise it seems small and tame, but on the right day it could have a couple of feet of fresh.

Check out Jackson Hole's website for a chance to win a spot on the first tram once it opens. You get a 4 day trip for 2, lift tickets, lodging and 2 VIP tickets to the Tram opening party. Not sure what the party is going to be, but the rest of the prize rocks. Good Luck!!!

It is pretty small and in the middle of no where. Its on the backside of the Tug Hill Plateau and can get several feet of snow in one shot. There is loads of snowmobiling in the area. I probably know the snowmobile trails better than the roads up there. If you have never been caught in the lake effect snow, you are missing out. There is no way to describe how hard it snows in those bands. I remember going to bed and sleeping for 5 to 6 hours and woke up to 3 feet of snow fresh. The amount of snow was SICK.

I was stationed at Ft Drum way back in the day, so I know how crazy the snow can be. I just never got the chance to hit that place.

I used to love driving up there in the winter, when the roads were covered in packed snow and ice. E-brake spins and snowbanking were always a good time🙂

ooo, ill probably pick up a triple play, they are worth it. I only went to creek once last year, but now that i have more evenings off hopefully ill go more...its just so boring there..oh well

Agreed, for the most part it sucks. But they actually had a half decent jump line going for a few weeks there last year. One of the table tops, dare I say it was actually huge...

if mountain creek sucks, where does roundtop fall on the rating system?

thats the problem with creek, they are inconsistent with the difficulties of their jumps, it seems alot of times they will boast and advertise that they have huge jumps and a great park, but only about 5% of riders can actually do them. and often things are closed for no reason..

And if you aren't into the park, it is completely worthless. If I'm driving that far, I'll just keep driving. I guess if I lived close I might find it a little more worth the trip.

i protested the whole park pass they had, never bought one...so i rode one season never in the park...i had to make up alot of stuff to try and keep me sane..like try and manual the entire mountain down, or ride down all the way without strapping in (i made it)

but yeah...it gets old..fast..

IMO there's no point in riding in this area of the country if you're not into park. The snow sucks, the mountains have no vert, and the race scene is dead. Just my two cents, but I think park skiing/boarding is the future of the sport.

I'm glad they did away with the park pass last year
