The Guitar Player Thread.

I've been eyeing up the ESP H308 hard. I had 2 8-string Ibanezes but didn't really like either of them. The H308 is basically the same as my 7-string with an extra string. Right now when I goof around with Animals as Leaders licks I just detune my B to an E. He doesn't use the B except for all the slappy bass parts.

Here's a Bossa Nova tune I wrote a while back. Revisited it with some percussion and various guitar changes.

I had a lot of fun experimenting with rhythms. I don't own a drum set so I just bang on anything around the house to get a beat. Trying to keep this organic so no electronic drum samples - I prefer to play everything.

Busted out Megan's classical nylon-string guitar for this. Haven't played one of those in years. The wide fretboard really threw me off.

The footage of the people dancing are street performers I saw last time I was in Vegas. Fuck it, why not?

enjoy.

Nice use of household items for percussion!

Been listening to a lot of Tony Rice and Bill Monroe these last few days. I can't play bluegrass flatpick style anywhere near as well as those OGs but I can certainly try and have fun with it.

I think at this point, my dog Tuck needs to appear in every jam. 🙂

Just a little one minute somthin-somthin over G C & D.

It's finger pickin good!

Considering the talent on here I really shouldn't post video here but fuck it.

I've been dicking around on the acoustic for a few years now but just recently bought a cheap used electric guitar and amp about a month ago.

Here's something I made up the other day. Reminds me of early 90s "shoe gazer" (eg, Cocteau Twins)

Don't judge 😉

As a huge fan of shoe gazer music - that was awesome. I love the tone!

Sounds great but next time up the anty on the vid - it's cool to actually see the player!

Alright,

Getting ready to take lessons, will probably go with something convenient that I can do after work or on my lunch hour......basically something that fits into my schedule of wife, family, work, work on house & ride.

I have not taken lessons for ten years or so, even then they were sporadic.

At this point whomever I take lessons from I will learn something, I just need direction.

At this point I have no real defined genre I like to play , probably some classic rock and 90's grunge. I am usual afraid to go below the 12th fret for some reason😕

What is the etiquette for lessons these days? Can I go bi-weekly?

What is the going rate?

I hate pursing something I suck at, but I love to tinker with the instrument.

I charge $40 an hour. I think that's pretty common. Bi-Weekly is best unless you really put it an effort to learn material quickly. I was giving my students a month worth of work in an hour. Some stuff might take longer to click. Hire me.

Hmmm.......maybe we do a ride/guitar day.

@wonderturtle What amp/effects pedals are you using?

It's a vox amp with effects and various "amps" built in. Got used for $50 (score!!). As much as I am learning the guitar, I am also playing around with the myriad sounds on the amp. So honestly can't remember what affects (probably chorus or flanger with some reverb). I find I don't like lots of reverb but I think I used more than usual for that one.

The other players on here are so freaking talented I feel like a complete hack posting my vids (not being modest - but accurate). Nonetheless, here's another one ....

Well done! And I concur, but maybe I will post a few up this weekend after I buy and amp. Let's get some other newbie/tinkerers on here.

Great job Mark! Nice tone too. This thread is for guitar playing cyclist you dont have to be the best as long as you have the passion for it. I used to charge $20 for an hr lesson long time ago i didnt taught anyone for years maybe I should start teaching again if my sched allows.

I started taking lessons in October, so no videos from me lol! It's very challenging (learning music theory), but fun! Been playing drums for about 18 years though. Wish I still had my set. Would like to jam with some of you people!
