Im going up this weekend. If your not in any hurry to get up there ill let you know how it is Sunday when i get back.
that would be great!! let me know if it is worth the gas mileage- where are you staying?

My roomate and I hitup Mad River Glen on Sunday. It was a bit of a disappointing day. The snow report had been calling for 6"-9" once the rain on saturday turned back to snow. So we decided to drive up late saturday night in hopes of getting some pow, we got there to find out they only got about 3"- 4" on top of what had become an extremely hard icepack from the day before (so not enough to avoid scrapping on the ice on just about every turn). To make matters worse the single chair was on an ice/wind hold and never opened during the day. With not much else to do we decided to hike and 2 1/2 hrs later we reached the summit. The snow at the top was suprisingly good (much deeper than at the base) and we got some nice fresh turns (by fresh, we were the only ones up there all day).
In the end we made the best of the day, and it seems like despite all of the rain they've been able to maintain most of their base. I'm off to Okemo and Stratton on thursday so I'll be curious to see how much less of a snowpack they have.

I stayed at a friends house in schroon lake. It is about 30 minutes away from Gore. Unfortunatly i never got to get up to the mountain. It poored all day saturday. I was planning to go sunday because it snowed satruday night a good 6 inches but the town along with the mountain lost power. 😡

Sorry i couldnt have been any help. But free is free. I would head up anyway.

I started snowboarding a little while back. This is my third season and I love it! This season was pretty good. Got a "5x7" season pass to Creek, went a bunch of times. Luckily they got a good amount of snow early so they had a decent amount of trails open throughout the season. Best day this season was early on when Creek got like 4-5" of fresh snow, really fun day.

Here are some pics of me from about two-three weeks ago when I headed up with a couple friends...

Well that's my picture story of that day, hope you enjoyed the pics!

Was a good season overall, can't wait till next since my friend and I are trying to save and thinking of headed out west, hopefully some Whistler in winter action!

Utahrd

I leave for Utah at 4 AM manana...lets just say I'm a bit stoked and pumped - Stumped? I'll try to get some pics up when I get back!

I just had an amazing past 4 days of skiing. My girlfriend and I spent three days up in Vermont, and rounded out the weekend with a session this afternoon at the creek. It was just about perfect conditions the entire time up in Vermont, with fresh snow over night and then temps up to almost the 50s by mid afternoon! There is still a ton of snow up there so get up there and enjoy it if you have the chance! Spring skiing rocks.

I put together a video from Vermont, and here are some of the better pictures from the trip. A Mountain Creek video will probably follow,

Looks like you guys had a great time. Alyssa looks real good on the board - those are some good sized rails she's hitting. And that canon steup looks nutso! Also from the vids - it looks like the trails were empty and you were getting some fine cordouroy turns.

I got a couple days up at Gore this weekend. That place is pretty damn cool. Lots of good terrain and I can imagine that place rips when the snow is really good. It looks like the ice storm from a couple of weekends ago wrecked a lot of glades.

I'm nursing a caught edge to butt driver and my right eye is still a little sore from a stray branch (the sides had some debri still from the storm). The most fustrating thing about the sore back/butt is it was from me trying to do a controlled fall as my son had crashed pretty good earlier in the run and was pretty sad. Just wanted to show him it's alright to keep going after a spill - ended up hurting me a lot more - figures...

Not much in North Creek but the skiing. My friend was saying there is a pretty big expansion project going on in the next couple of years which done well could be nice. I know another good restaurant or 2 or 3 (we ended up eating a small pizza place) and another snowboard/ski shop would be a good addition for visitors.

I've been during the summer and it would also be real nice to have some mtn biking up there. Just looking at the terrain, it seems like the place could be sick.

The slopes were empty, it's like everyone thinks winter is over or something. I'm fine with that though 😀 And yeah, she holds her own on the board. I can't say how embarrassing it is when your gf can hit something that you can't, but that cannon box intimidated the hell out of me. In my defense I'm on skis, so I can't hit things 50/50, but even so you needed mad speed to clear the jump after it. Also, I'll try to hold on to her, so the fun lasts 🙁

I got back from Utah on Monday morning after four days of truly epic riding. We stayed in Park City, and after arriving Thursday around lunchtime we hit the slopes at Park City for the afternoon. After about an hour on the mountain it started snowing...and pretty much did not stop until Sunday afternoon!

Park City was good fun, but the way the mountain is laid out does not make the best use of the terrain...I suppose the best way to describe it would be kind of vanilla. I didn't care, heck I was snowboarding in Utah and it was dumping!

Friday morning we woke up and after a monster breakfast went to the other resort right in Park City, The Canyons. This place is huge. I mean 3700 Acres huge. Another 10" fell overnight and we were treated to powder stashes all over the mountain. The tree skiing here was superb and the place was so big that it was like everyone had their own mountain to themselves. After being here it made me wonder how Park City Resort stays in business, the Canyons was that much better.

Friday ended with a Mexican feast and the body feeling like it spent a few hours at the bottom of an NFL fumble pile - that exhaustive high which lets you know you have used your body to the max. I don't think I could have ridden another slope that day.

On Saturday we awoke to yet another helping of fresh powder and drove out to the Big Cottonwood Canyon and Solitude Mountain Resort. This mountain is focused on the skiing and riding and had an old school vibe to it - this was not the place for snowbunnies sitting in the lodge. We ventured up to the headwall forest, acres of double black tree skiing that would have been downright dangerous on hardpack but was terrific fun and controllable with all of the snow on the ground. This was the day that we finally got some of the heralded Utah Powder...blower snow. It was like nothing I have seen before, snow up to my knees in places but no struggle to jump and maneuver the board. I though after friday that it just could not get better, but I was wrong. If you love to ski or ride in the trees, go to Solitude!

Sunday marked the last day of the trip, and I was determined to ride till I dropped. We headed back to the Canyons to find almost another foot on the ground above what had already fallen from the past two days. Since we had visited the mountain two days before, we knew right where to head to find our private slices of heaven and wasted no time finding them. Even on lower mountain elevations there were huge untouched fields of snow...snowboarding in that powder is a totally different sport than what I am used to here on the east coast. What a blast! It's like floating and falling as you crest the under snow bumps and ruts. I don't think the grin came off my face the entire day.

Of course, it all must come to an end, and after waiting for 8 hours in the airport for my plane to take off (that was fun after a day of riding and no shower) I finally landed back in beautiful EWR and came back to the wonderful reality that is NJ. Wasatch mountains....I will be seeing you again as soon as I can.

At work right now...try and post some pics later.

Nice report.

I too am hooked on this stuff.

My collection of powder guns is pretty silly considering that I live in NJ.

If you ever want a bigger board for the deep days I have enough to go around.
