Awesome shots, I always love rippin through a birch forest. But I'd watch yourself, in one of those shots you're almost rockin the dreaded gap 😉

Yes, awesome shots j!

I don't snowboard, but skiing in the trees is the best! and usually where the best snow conditions are. My guess is that those white trees are Aspens?

In a way i am glad that i don't live out there. My body usually takes such a beating on those trips that I can barely walk.

The group that I ride with is usually dawn to dusk with few stops.

In the early 90's I had 144 days on snow.

Now I get about 20..

20 days isn't anything to scoff at for living in NJ and I'm sure you're busy w/ work and all that other stuff. I'm shooting for 20 myself this year - I'll probably be just under it but I'll take what I can get.

BTW, I just looked closer at your avatar - isn't that the Whale Tails off 89 near Burlington? I used to drive past it all the time on my way back to campus at St. Mikes. I remember someone jumping it years ago for a photoshoot or something - maybe for Eastern Edge?

I think it is Trever Andrew. It is in B-ton for sure.

My sis in law runs the Hempest up there. We stop in a bunch on the way up to Jay Peak.

Fun town but no surf near by.

I am heading out for Park City this afternoon. They are calling for 12"+ for Sunday. Now as long as the airline doesn't screw things up, this could be good.

an FYI, Mountain Creek is looking to finally open up a halfpipe this weekend. Take note that it's not their super pipe but will be on South. Donno what the height of the walls will be, but they have been pushing a ton of snow around to make it. You can expect to find me in it just about every week night for the rest of the season.

How has South been? I rode there about a month ago and it was all ice and pretty sketch. I really loved what they did w/ making it all jumps and rails tho. I'm waiting for the warmer temps and hope to head there during a weekday to get a good spring/slush jump session in.

Yea!!! i haven't spent to much time in a pipe lately, so not being a super pipe is fine by me. If my work schedule allows, might try for an after work sesh.

It's been hit or miss up there lately with all the freeze thaw cycles we've been going through. You just have to hope that you hit it right. I think the best I've hit it this year was back at super bowl sunday. But the new South has been great overall, I love the jump line, although to be honest I wasn't clearing the biggest stepdown on Saturday cause the snow was so slow, and that was with straight lining it from the landing on the "money booter" bellow the quad. Damn that landing hurt.

I was at camelback on the weekend, just perfect conditions after the snow last week. I was expecting itto be a lot more busy, but Sunday with the blue skies was just amazing. I had a "moment". The crowds were thinner too.

Camelback has a couple of runs with rails and things, and a 50-75yrd halfpipe too. The walls are probablu 10ft high. I had my first few goes on it. No air but this was only my 6th time on skies ever. I also hit the smaller jumps. I likely looked like a tool but only crashed once so high 5 to me!

Towards the end of Sunday the fresh snow was getting wiped off the steeper double-blue, black, and double-black runs so made things a bit sketchy.

Isn't Mountain Creek having their Lua thing this weekend? It's being advertised on the radio.

I went to creek last night and it was horrible. The mountain was a sheet of ice. Not one trail was good. i guess it was good for all the suys in the park.

I was over on Granite riding Devil's Bit last night and I thought the conditions were awesome. It was pretty cold but other than that I was having a blast.

I'm going to have to go with t.wash with last night. On south nothing was edgable and the landings on the jumps were all bulletproof hard. It was a no fall night.

Please define last night in a time frame. Last night it looked like they actually regroomed the mountain in the afternoon when it started to refreeze. Had you been there before 5, I'm bet it was good.

I actually got there at 6. I think I spend way too much time at Creek and I'm too used to riding on ice - unfortunately. It was pretty empty so most normal people agreed with you guys that the conditions sucked.

Accuweather is saying 2-4 on Friday night so Saturday should be nice

last night was beyond saying your are used to ice. It was concrete. I would have been better off with a pair of ice skates.

Utah Trip

I just got back from Utah. It was a great trip, we skiied 6 days straight. Our first day was Sunday and we lost a half day to the wind. We went to the Canyons but 90% of the lifts were closed. We drove to Snowbird and had a great afternoon. About 2:30 it started to thunder snow and the lifts shut down for 30 minutes. It snowed harder than I have ever seen it. Just about everyone left, but we stayed for the 3-4" we got in 1 hour. We had fresh tracks for the rest of the day.
Monday we went to Powder mountain. We had an awesome day there also, finding fresh tracks in the trees. It's not the most extreme mountain but the snow was great and hardly anyone was there. If you haven't been, I would recommend it for a powder day.
On Tuesday we went back to Powder for a day of snow cat skiing. This is a new program this year at Powder. They just opened the area we went to 3 days earlier. No one in our group had tried this before. We got 12 runs in (we could have got more if they had their act together) The snow was great, untracked 12" deep powder, but we were disappointed with the terrain. We were told that it would be steep but not cliffs. It wasn't even close, I would call it intermediate at best. For the $300 each, we expected sick terrain. We kept commenting that the runs weren't steep enough, they told us we'll get there but never did.
Wednesday and Thursday we went to the Canyons where We had 2 blue bird days. No new snow but we found some untracked snow in the woods. We skiied in the double black diamond Condor Woods area a lot. The Canyons is large, 3700 acres. We didn't even cover the entire mountain in 2 days. It was getting warmer and the snow was melting and freezing over night so the mornings were rough. Very crusty snow where the sun had melted it.
Friday we tried Deer Valley since it was close and we had to fly out that afternoon. Everything off the trails was crusty, so we mostly stuck to the groomers. They have lots of moguls, but they were hard and fast.
I was really hoping to get to Alta, but things didn't work out, maybe next time. My legs are toast, luckily I have until Monday to recover! I am not having any luck uploading the pictures. Can anyone tell me how it's done? Later,

Dave

Heading to snowbird last week in march for easter. My week there every year thanks to that timeshare thing. best week to be there. no crowds, over 450" of snow and usually a base of about 102". last year sucked due to the crappy winter but they are making up for it this year. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!
