My Hovercraft is Full of Podcasts

Oh look who figured out how to log in 😀

well played matt, well played.

saw my first images of this thing last night and just got on the net for the first time today...whole family is at my brother in-laws house. with the way things have been with the lack of gas, i'm not running the generator at home.

they're saying we may be out for another 7-14 days.

Friday!

Ok, not much to report today. I didn't run out of gas, I can go right to the diesel pump and get what I need, no waiting, the generator is still going, we have gas, in gas cans (more on this later), and I have spent more time with my daughter this week than I have since I left the house. So in all, it's a decent week.

Oh and I've done bout 5 hours of work this week.

I rode the trainer again yesterday. Yes, it's painful. I'm going to ride it again tonight. It will likely be painful. That's because it's a trainer.

I've moved some stuff into the new place but not too much. Had my first meal there, a big tasty bowl of meatball brothy noodle style soup. And I made some tea.

In all, I'm not on fire nor am I freezing. So it's all good.

Utah

The contents of my last text still stand. For obvious reasons I cannot post it here but my general thought about being *too* prepared is that everyone ends up at your place. Witness the testicles comment you made to me yesterday. Even your dog agrees with me.

Not all of what you wrote in that conversation is quite true.

But...ok...some of it may be. May...

Want to ride bikes this weekend? And move my furniture? I have a diesel so I can drive 200 miles a day with no worries.

Comments

Dave - what behavior? Like I said to Utah, going out to get gas gives people a goal. What the hell else would everyone be doing if there wasn't something to do? Yes, sitting at home making crap up about how long it's going to take the power to come back on or that the town is going to shut off the water because aliens have polluted the water supply. Rounding up the general population and making them stand in a gas station parking lot isn't really a terrible thing, when you think about it.

Like I've said before: Everyone Loves Raymond. See what I mean?

Bill - I have your gas cans. Oh wait, you knew that. I'll try to show up with beer later but I do need to get on the trainer first. Actually...the trainer may be more enjoyable with beer. So maybe I won't wait. You think B will be mad if I set it up in the kitchen? Oh and I stole an extension cord from the other garage. I didn't end up needing it.

Matty - glad you could keep the spirit of White Out alive. You think Pearl even knows what that is? He probably doesn't even have an eraser. Kids these days just throw stuff out if they make a mistake.

My mom said the wait was 20 minutes in P'burg yesterday. I think Nat sat in the New Providence line for 3 hours. Yes, it's worth the drive.

Robin - thinking to move it 2 weeks out. Everyone should have power back in the state by then. Well, everyone but Jake.

Jake - ignore that last comment until I get the TV stand, cool?

Saw this early this morning...

I used lots of white out yesterday. I always keep some on hand for apocalypses.

3 gas stations in a cluster, no wait today, just drive up to the pump. Worth the drive, especially if you have a bunch of cans to fill:

Hey everybody! Christine and I just emerged from the 19th century! Electricity is an awesome invention.

Electricity is actually a discovery, not an invention (said the nitpicking d-bag.) 😀

When I move into my new place, I'm going to start a new thread. This would be a great title for it. We'll see.

I'm not sure that something that comes from the sky (inviting all nitpickers to hit that one) and obliterates anything in it's path is the same sort of discovery as, say, the West Indies. Well, the Ciguayos might not actually agree with that sort of "discovery" either.

So where was I?

Saturday & Sunday

I don't even know anymore. I have to admit it's all becoming a blur at this point, as I go from point A to B to C and back and in various order.

Some facts:

* Bill lost power somewhere in there to make it 3 places with no power
* Once Nat & Julia took off for Seattle, I moved in here
* Gas in Bloomsbury early Sunday morning had zero line
* I drank some red wine this weekend
* I got a dining room table from Woody
* I had my first beer in the new place with Woody
* I'm slowly moving stuff in from the house
* Most of my junk is in the basement
* I have a lot of junk
* Bill got power back, I think yesterday
* I can finally connect to work
* They still told us to stay home
* I saw utility trucks out there today, I'm actually somewhat optimistic
* I've been riding the trainer at the end of the day
* I have a full tank of diesel and something like 14 gallons of gas

Normalcy

There is a sense of normalcy that you lose with all of this. Given nothing else, I really don't mind that much. But I know...know, it will come down to when the boss(es) get sick of hearing it. I got on the call today and it was just like, "Ok, week is over, let's go like nothing happened." Meanwhile, downtown is still like a war zone and there's no heat in the buildings.

Whatever, I knew that was going to be the way it goes. They're pretty relaxed overall so I can't complain. I more or less got a free week last week to deal with this stuff so I guess I need to bring it back up to speed this week.

My hands smell like gas. What's normal about that?

Bikes

I feel like this almost acts as the end of the race season. I have a race this weekend, the thought of which is almost laughable. I guess you never know what happens in the next few days but driving down to MD seems like a real long shot. Maybe it's time to start going low & slow already and just enjoy myself.

Or maybe not.

Bikes are almost all in the new place. Once I get power I'll get the riding going again. I'm excited about it.

Normapalooza

Thanks to Carson for the title.

Hoping to be able to do 11/17 for those of you in the know. It obviously got bagged this past weekend because of something or other minor that I can't remember. Anyway, we'll get there. It would have been a questionable idea anyway, since this packing is way more difficult than I had thought.

I need couches. Well, I have couches, but then need to be cleaned up and moved in. Hopefully soon. I guess I should ask Bill if he wants to do that tonight. But then I need to head up and do some major cleaning.

Power

High Gear is back in business. I'm optimistic this is the real thing. Ride the wave! Let's get everyone back on the grid!

Mad Style

This is the kind of awesomeness you can expect from the new pad. The people will flock from miles around to be seen here:

Sorry Jake, my bad.

Your couches made it to my condo last night. I'm pretty sure they're magic couches actually. I'll let you know shortly.

Yeah, that's a blu-ray DVD player under the 8-track video machine.

I am sort of like Han Solo, or was. But I've got heat covered in the house now. Boil water on the stove, drop the dehumidifier in the middle of the kitchen. It's like an energy war. But it's currently 73 degrees in here. So I got that going for me...

Where's Pearl?

Much of the town has power. Not here. I did just see a utility truck down the other side of the road. So I'm hopeful.

Trainer, blah blah. Martha blah blah. Anyone get that?

I voted today. I will be rewarded for that.

I went to Bloomsbury for gas today.

Our office is closed indefinitely because it's so cold in there. Utility power for the hardware but no heat. It really does make my week better. So it's all good.

I am obviously pressed for time, thus the short blurbs. Plus it's late, I know people want smaller bits of info.

This is it. My last post in this thread. A new one will emerge shortly. A new era. A ridiculously awesome one, I hope. I still don't have a new thread title. It will come to me in due time.

Rob's guys came today, getting better:
