My Hovercraft is Full of Podcasts

I must say it is good to have early morning bathroom reading material again. Maybe not worth the $100 a month subscription you threw out there but I'd go 2 bucks.

I thought about a few other things I have for you. Brand new in box espresso maker never used. Same with ice cream maker. I may have read someone offered one already but this way you can get 2 flavors going simultaneously. Besides it comes attached to the av equipment and makes space in my cabinet. Much of this reminds me of Monty python "bring out your dead!!!".
I also have a plastic kids picnic table I'd like to lose. Will text u pic. Also how about a drum set? Let me explain, first there is no faster way to get an opportunity to meet your neighbors, true they may knock on your door with baseball bats but tbt I am sure there will be moments you will want to pound on something and from past experience I've found that blasting AC/DC in headphones and smashing away is far cheaper than actually paying for therapy. Besides you might wind up with a whole new career.
Basically im looking to fill my work van with stuff to dump in you nice empty space.
Oh I also have a lot of Panasonic system phones. They don't work without the main ksu system but it will impress people that come over cause they will say things like "did you see all those phones he has? He must do something really important"
Amazingly I just threw away a GF grill thing like last month after that layer around my basement forever.
Ok I'll keep looking around.

Rob, what about that mower u tried to pawn off to me? Norm could use it for
a chair with a coffee table/ food warmer attched

The reason AC/dc is the most therapeutic is because the drummer never really plays anything more complicated than an 1/8 note. Maybe even a 1/4. And tempos are slow. Just wanted to expand on the reasoning there.

Hey if the apartment thing doesn't work out I found a place where you can live out of your Audi. There is a section on riverside drive by Grants Tomb that has bunch of others living out of their cars. Only hassle I see is you gotta move it to other side twice a week.

Friday!

Cue Stephen Colbert. It's been a while. But here we are, it's Friday!

I rode my bike today but like an ass I forgot my GPS. This gypsy living thing really makes it hard to keep my act together. Hey, sometimes a guy has other stuff on his mind, you know?

So I rode bikes. Well, 1 bike.

Yesterday the release went fine, then I went out to look for knives, couldn't stomach the retail prices, then went to Trader Joe's for some Greek Yogurt feta dip and some cheese. I love cheese. Last time I bought this, Bill & I destroyed it in no time.

Then I came home and had pizza & beer with Bill & Donovan. Well, beer was just the adults. Donovan is strictly a scotch drinker. I never tire of these jokes. Why is that?

Comments

1. Mandi - I'll take everything, even the microwave. I've gotten a 3rd microwave so we can just pass this one on to Ellen. In the end, Fred & I have an idea for some videos involving me, him & Adam, Ikea, and microwave destruction. I'm sure this never pans out but it's funny to think about.

2. Matty - deal. But this isn't like food shopping with a full belly. I'm still going to take as much if I'm hungry or full. Just warning you.

3. RU - dishwasher and laundry included. Admittedly the price of this place is a tad steeper than some of the other places (and actually much lower than others) but at this stage of life, I'm just not going to a laundromat. And really, I have to assume it's against town rules to even *build* a laundromat in Basking Ridge. So that would leave me in like Plainfield for my laundry needs.

So to answer: yes, dishwasher and washer/dryer in the house. I doubt I wash my kitchen gadgets in the dishwasher, but you never know.

Sweet on the offer, but it's not like much of the stuff in the house is going with me. I do have a few offers, and then there are the locals that really have little/no choice, like Bill & Utah. Since my couch set has become TJ's laundry rack, I'm sure Bill will be happy to help me move it.

Utah is required to help. It's not like we'll actually do much besides drive, talk, and maybe eat anyway.

4. Robin - you can give them to Carson. We're supposed to have beers anyway so he can BYOLC. LC = lawn chair, not low-class. We all know Carson has an abundance of low-class already. No need to give him more.

5. Mom of Arwen - yes, but how do I get them? I'm loathe to spend $9 of gas to get a $12 pan. So maybe you can slap a stamp on one, drop it at the USPS and hope it makes it? Or give it to someone who is going to HPCX this weekend. Feel free to throw in a few hundred dollars too. I'm sure it'll come in handy.

6. Jmanic - I think if you had seen the full Texas interaction it would have been better, but it was really long and it made my brain hurt to reread it. The renter insurance was an interesting conversation. One part I didn't mention...

Agent: So is there anyone else you want to list on the policy? Like your wife?
Me: Definitely not!
Agent: *giggle*
Agent: Oh, so it's one of those.
Me: Yeah, I'm sure you hear this all the time.
Agent: Yeah.

I like "the new normal." Like I said to someone yesterday, this is just me. I can't not be me. It feels good to be able to talk about life, especially this whole thing where I'm living with Bill. Sadly, I won't be able to share much more of this for much longer. But then, I have a key to the house, so maybe I'll drop in from time to time with some Twinings Breakfast Blend tea pods. That seems to make the wife (Bill's, not mine) happy.

Plus I don't have a dog that craps all over. That's got to count for something.

We have an ice cream maker at home, but I suspect my asking for it will result in a rejection. So I'll take the free one. Ones. I've used it many times. Well, more than 4. Maybe like 6. Or 18.

7. Pixy - deal. I like eggs. But eggs explode in a microwave so we're going to have to work out a deal. I can wake up at 5:00 am these days only for very special events. So no worries there.

8. Jake - yes, I'll take the entertainment center. I think that will be something Utah and I will come get. I know he's groaning when I mention his name. But there are very few steps involved. I think 2-3 to go down from your place and like 4 to go up at my new place. Steps make moving 4x harder, if not more.

9. Dave - yes, I call her Squirt sometimes but more often Peanut, or, when she's not listening, "that little shit" or some such. 5-6 can be a tough age. Actually, now that I'm around less, she almost never has "that little shit" moments anymore. She lets me do things like brush her hair which used to send her into a flaming rage... metaphorically. She's not actually a dragon. 😉

I will come back and ride with Utah from time to time and continue to pillage your hood for KOMs. I lost my favorite yesterday. Need to get that one back. Need. Want. Etc. Etc.

10. I'm hurt Bill. Really, you think it's all about the beer? The free food has been fabulous too. It sucks that I'm never home for dinner anymore. But that DiGiorno pizza last night was banging.

11. RNG - I'll take the $2. Gotta start somewhere. I remember I was once in the city and a homeless guy asked me for $20. I laughed, then gave him the change I had. Kinda where I'm going with this.

I'll take whatever, but don't be mad if I sort through it right next to the dumpster and throw out most of the stuff. Espresso maker, I don't need. But if it makes steamed milk I'll take it to avoid a boxing match with the wife. I'll also take a second ice cream maker. No on the kids picnic table. It's a condo, not the Arthur Kill Landfill.

You may place the useless phones anywhere you like, sure.

Needs

Nothing specific today. I'm glad this thread is back to where it should be.

But, you know, I'm open to free stuff, so keep it coming. And thanks to those of you who have offered free run of your basements.

Weekend

I get Julia today, this afternoon at some point, and we then head out to PA. Until I get my own place, I use my parent's place as my own place, which it's not. So it's like a 2 day party out there for J, because it's like wall-to-wall play & junk food.

Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to do something more productive than eat junk food. Like maybe climb the hill in the back of the house up to Elephant Rock and meditate with her. Sounds like fun for a 6 year old, right? Actually, if we were to go up there I'd need to carry her, since she would be tired in 13 seconds. But maybe.

Sunday is HPCX. I really don't know what to expect at this point.

Monday I get my keys, and then the real fun starts. They already told us to WFH Monday because of Hurricane Stud Muffin or whatever they're calling it. Serendipity. I should really be consulted before they name these things.

Sorry, no pics today. Use your imagination. But keep it clean. Mostly.

Wow, 5 actual posts with words this week. It feels good to write again. Thanks for reading.

I didn't actually want to possess said lawn chair, I wanted to have one at your place with my name on it. That would have given me a warm, fuzy feeling when I came to visit. I'm low class? Right. You are planning some sort or microwave pyramid at the house. What class is that?

He needs to decorate the front porch.

Meditating is all the rage with 6 yr olds. I am a coach for my sons 5/6 soccer team and last week we played a team where one kid would meditate on the field any time there was a goal or break in the game. I thought about telling my son to make fun of him but figured that would be frowned upon so I simply just gave the kid disapproving looks and tripping him from time to time.

Nothing I have is up to yuppiedum, as they were just dialing in fire when I settled into home life, but I have a TON of stainless steel bowls up for grabs. ... all sizes.

So its all the rage with one 6 year old. Don't discriminate on what probably is religion, he could be the golden child, or better yet eddie murphy.

The Weekend

I get Julia on Friday, a bit early, and head out to PA to start the weekend early and beat traffic. Easy drive, there before 5:00, and we hang out and run out the night, which is pretty low-key.

Saturday we do stuff in Phillipsburg but before we can really get going, it's obvious Julia isn't feeling well, and almost throws up, so we go home. First we make some cupcakes, and I decorate one especially for her. Then I carve pumpkins for her:

In the end, she doesn't like the kitten because it's not scary enough. She likes the dragon though. I have to say that I'm a big fan of the dragon in the pumpkin too. That's pretty awesome.

I also roasted some pumpkins seeds which I cooked too long. I think the issue was really that I used too little oil. So they got a little too crispy/dry, and I didn't love them. My parents both liked them though.

More or less an easy day, not much doing. But we all need those now and again.

Sunday, we wake up and watch cartoons. Then I go to the race.

HPCX Recap

See here:
http://mtbnj.blogspot.com/2012/10/hpcx-hurricane-that-wasnt.html

Not my best work, but it is what it is. Sent to Molly, who said she simply forgot about the last article. Even though she's an RU alum, she was not there yesterday. She was out in Bend, I believe.

The Condo

I was supposed to do the walk-through today and get my keys, but the agent doesn't want to go. While I can't entirely blame her, I'm a little disappointed.

This thread will self-destruct when I get the new place, and I will start a new one. Thread title suggestions always appreciated. Fire away.

I can still use stuff, btw.

Oh, and I more or less texted everyone I know about next weekend. Going to have people over on/off all day to sort of help me move, eat some food, drink some beer, and help me break the place in.

No, that's not a Warren County-style break-in, Mr. Carson.

Comments

1. The microwaves can be used as foot stools or paperweights. Don't they teach you anything in Clown College?

2. I'm pretty sure STB was making a joke.

3. Pixy, I would be interested in any secrets you have about how you may or may not have helped dial in fire, as well as the bowls. I guess I could have mentioned this before the weekend, since I just saw you yesterday.

4. Drums - I'm thinking no. You do put forth a compelling argument about meeting the neighbors, but I'm not sure I want to go this route quite yet. I'll let you know.

5. I'm pretty sure Blair doesn't get jokes.

Today

The floor is closed for the next 2 days, so I'm here in the basement. I guess we'll see what happens.

I do want to get on the trainer soon. Well, not want, but I want to start riding more. Given the weather outside, that's going to need to be on the trainer for the next day or so. I need to drag that and the bike into the basement in a few. Sounds exciting? Well, it is!

Stuff

I rode the trainer. It was a blast. Actually it was totally not a blast. I pretty much have to ride for 15 minutes, get off, and do that 3 more times. I need to ride more though, so I'm dealing with this for now. I know everyone is excited to hear about my trainer rides. It's a whole lot of fun, where fun in this sentence means, actually, not fun.

Right now I'm sitting in my old house. Bill has power, no Internet. Here has Internet, no power. But the generator is blazing so we hooked up the wifi here. I'm kinda working. Ok, I'm not actually working. But I'm bouncing some emails and doing some low-hanging fruit stuff today. You may have heard that downtown is powerless. Well it was, so I can't remote to my PC in the office. We have a poor replacement but it's hard to be very efficient with this.

I do plan on hitting the trainer when I get back to Bill's. Then again tomorrow at some point. Then I think that will be the end of my trainer rides for the season. Always rollers. But, I have no rollers right now. Well, they're in the basement here. So, you know. But soon enough...

I'm supposed to get the keys to my condo today. Well I was supposed to yesterday, but I didn't. Shocking, I know. No big deal, soon enough. If it works, out, I can at least take the stuff out of my car and drop it there. More than likely there won't be power, which is ok. I just want the keys then I can at least have the freedom to choose not to be there.

Last night was fun. We had Utah and Allison over to Bill's, plus a few other people. We ate, and drank, and Bill played around with really scary looking wires.

Yes, that's wired right into the breaker.

My wife was totally dubious on your pumpkin carving abilities. I had to assure her of what a stand up guy you are and that you have mad skills. The dragon is bitchin'.

I've got nothing to add. The trainer sounds like a wonderful idea, I should get one and immediately give it to the scrap guys at work.
