Going Long and Hard.

When I'm in front it's too easy to drop into the 11t and go bye-bye on the straights, which I know hurts the SS'ers.

Ha, No shit, After we came up the IMBA trail and hit the flat section, I just couldn't spin my legs fast enough to keep up. Hit that point were I was hopping up and down on my saddle.

Yep. ChrisG keeps a better linked up flow through the park for sure. Mitch was dragging us into tight technical never ridden before trails to slow Jim down so he could recover. This ride was blippy on the throttle but overall slower. Not to mention me taking out PoorIggy on the off camber downhill. 😀

On the other hand the ChrisG's "Steady Eddy" pace has been rising over the past few weeks. I think base season is coming to an end and everybody is ready to throw down some work. I'm predicting a ruptured noise bleed from me soon as the rides get faster and faster.

Bring it! :getsome:

You guys are making me feel bad I missed this. I was at Thompson Park doing hill repeats in my 53 instead.:drooling:

You guys are making me feel bad I missed this.

Don't worry...you know there will be a re-match. You can lead and we'll keep Vreeland in the back to push the herd.
I thought the pace was fun at Allaire, mock 2 on twisties and a little rest on the open flats, or whenever Mitch yelled REST.

Tuesday

Yeah, I skipped monday. For some reason I found it pretty easy to sit around and play my geetar all day instead of riding. Maybe it was the snow? Blah.

Drove into work today. I put $20 in the tank, 6.something gallons. So I lasted from 2/28-3/22 on just over 4 gallons. Albeit I did cheat and drive my wife's car to the Allaire TM. Shhhh. 😀

I walked into another pile of tubies stacked in front of my bench. Either tubies have seriously regained popularity, or I just happen to be the guy that everyone wants to glue them. Either way, my technique has gotten pretty well-honed at this point!! Mike G flatted another tire at BB one saturday so I had to put on a new Evo Corsa. Got in another pile of Paves to stretch for incoming wheelsets.

I moved my tubie rack to the front window so the base dries faster and I can mount the tire the same day. Also came up with a way to speed up the glue process. Found this syringe and filled it with 3 tubes of glue. Enough to do 1 wheel and tire without reloading or having to dip the brush into the tub. Mike's wheel took me about 20 minutes start-to-finish.

Shop ride

I was able to plow through enough of the work schedule to get out on the ride. Sweet!! Good group today. Nice to have the MTBNJ guys jumping into this. Makes the ride more interesting because the Wheelmen all know each other and what we're gonna do. Here's a brief rundown of the mayhem.

Sexy Rob got a flat 5 minutes in, we never saw him again. I almost died during one of the pothole roads because Dirk didn't call a pothole. I almost died a 2nd time because Joe ran me off the road when Norm got a flat. Mike G tried to go for a flyer just after Norm's flat and I put in a BIG effort to bridge to him, I have video!! Mike and I did a pretty good lead-out to allow the Sneez to take the first sprint. We rode a good paceline for some time. Someone fell down at a stop light. Mike and I set-up the field to go away during the 2nd sprint. I set the move by going to the front just after the sprint and pulling pretty hard, Mike came by me and gave me "the sign". I immediately dropped a couple gears to prep for his acceleration. And BAM!! We went off the front. Norm and Ben followed and we had 4 of us. At some point there was no Ben and then Norm said something like "it's yours, go!!" or whatever I heard and it was me and Mike. John caught us on a little climb because Mike and I are not climbers, FYI. So we became 3. I went to the front and pulled John off the break by drilling it through the bike path, which must've scared the crap out of him!! I hit the roads in the neighborhood and opened a gap on Mike. I ran out of gear on the last downhill and he caught back on and then dropped me on the final run into the shop. Damnit!! I would've had him if I was on a road bike:getsome:

My Garmin was dropping all over the place. The camera does something to the Garmin to make it read weird. It said our avg moving speed was 28mph. I call shenanigans!! Here's the file...

That is all, debating whether to commute in the snow or not:hmmm:

-Jim.

That looks like fun. stupid job getting in the way of my fun.

I like how you went 70 mph for a couple minutes there. I'm not sure I could hang with that 🙂

Why do you guys take that bike path back? Seems unnecessarily sketchy to me. There's often crap all over that thing and it's gotta only be a matter of time before someone rolls it pretty hard in there.

I'm happy to have this ride back. Good times, though looking forward to the longer route and more fun.

I'm not sure why we take the path. Most of the guys take the road straight back to Valley. I like the bike path, but at some point, someone will die, more than likely myself or Mike:hmmm:

Wednesday

Shitty day to commute. It was doing some strange combo of snow and sleet or ice or whatever. Roads weren't slippery at all but the stuff kept stinging me in the face. Blah. At least I got to use the new boot dryer again!! This time I put my socks on it too. Warm and toasty for the slop on the ride home. Thundersleet!! I have no idea what was going on during my ride home. I went through rain, sleet, hail, snow and thunder all in 40 minutes, it was crazy. Blah.

My wife was in some sorta mood last night. I barely walked in the door before I got yelled at for all kinds of poop. Holy crap. On top of that she forgot I had a guitar lesson and invited her mother over to help us box stuff up for our move this weekend. So to refill the MBU account I had to cancel on Angel and spend my evening filling boxes. With my MIL. Ewww. Blah. Women.

On a good note, in the mist of everything, I didn't eat dinner. So my calories for the day were stupid low, or, would be if I counted. The amount of items I ate was stupid low I should say. Triple Threat bar for breakfast, cheese sandwich for lunch, trail mix for 4pm snack, peanut butter and jelly Mojo bar before my ride home. That's it. Probably pay for that today at some point!!

GLUE!! WOOHOO!! We got in 2 pairs of 303's to glue today, 1 pair came in a week early, which is sick. Pete actually jumped in to help relieve some of my glue work so I could get some bikes done as well. I of course took the more blingin' of the 2😀

303 PowerTap tubies. Super bad-ass!! And of course they get a set of Paves, only way to fly. I need to start saving for a pair of 303s they're so nice!!

So at this point the 24c Paves are gone from the world. We actually had to buy a few pairs off a place we found on eBay that had them in stock, last week. I called them yesterday as we're down to our last pair and they're out now too. So if you need a 24c Pave tubie, good luck!!

Anything else? Maybe. Me and my older son were going through our book collection while we were packing up the bookcase. He found some of my wife's teacher books and took this math book over to the couch to read. Then he grabbed paper and started doing the problems. I sat down with him to see if he needed help but he figured it out but he was fine. It was figuring out area and such, some of them he did in his head. WTF!? He's always been a smart kid but lately he's really been making his teachers and whatnot take notice. They already had to swap his reading materials because he's been reading at a much higher grade level since kindergarten.

Friday

Commute. It was chilly. There was some crazy water main break or something and part of Washington Ave was flooded. The ride home home is so nice on thursday night because traffic is light(er) after 8pm. Nice.

Speaking of commuting, just finished a cool touring build at the shop. A Gunnar.

Came out pretty cool. Built another generator hub wheel to run an 800 lumen headlight and this one had a little geeky twist.

198136_1930351460440_1291834825_2383106_132177_n.jpg

Here's the geeky twist. The hub runs into this adapter which splits the voltage output. 1 goes to the headlamp, the other side goes to a handlebar mount that will charge his Garmin while he rides across the country!! Cool!!

Today I ate a lot of food. I brought a protein bar for lunch, which I ate, then our Shimano rep bought us pizza, which I tried NOT to eat, but I ended up eating 2 slices. Then Craig-E-Bear brought in some homemade granola for me. I thought it was a one serving thing so I ate it all. It ended up being like a week's worth. Damnit!! So then I skipped snack time to get back on track but Normie dropped off some cookies. Which I ate!! So to make up for that I didn't eat dinner. I may have come out about right for the day, maybe:hmmm:

Which one is it? An E-Werk? Which hub is he using?

You can understand why I'm so interested. 🙂

So the last thing I posted was 1/2 a bagel with peanut butter on friday? Hm. To say I've been busy with the move would be an understatement!! Who knew moving would take so much time?

I rode my bike both friday and saturday, commutes both days, saturday on the TT bike. Nothing crazy. came home saturday night and started moving everything into the living room at the old crib to prepare for everyone coming over. Sunday morning I was taking apart the furniture and putting it in the courtyard to get as much ready as possible. We got the keys at 10am so I had plenty of time to get everything ready to roll!!

197413_1937944570263_1291834825_2396505_3215537_n.jpg

First thing I moved was the bikes just to hide them out of the way so they wouldn't get damaged.

198073_1937949170378_1291834825_2396512_5854174_n.jpg

Me and Joe Mundi moved all the the furniture and were putting things together in the new place before anyone else showed up to help out. Doh!! Less than 2 hours we had all the furniture where it needed to be, or so I thought.

197822_1937951490436_1291834825_2396516_4606406_n.jpg

The cable guy came while we were moving and set-up our TV and interwebs. We put the modem and router in the TV thing so the crizzy is wireless!! Sweet.

190097_1939098479110_1291834825_2398546_3787041_n.jpg

Hooked the wagon up to our Trikester to keep the kids entertained for the day. They would fill the wagon with stuff and ride it over to the new place. They were in charge of all their toys and stuff. They now have 2/3 of the basement a play area. I've been working down there since to set it all up. On Monday I claimed my area and started building the home shop up.

190319_1939196521561_1291834825_2398635_3051258_n.jpg

The table is a temp. That's where I need to build a bench. I'll build one exactly like I have at the shop, just a little longer so I can put a vice on it. There's room for 5 bikes. I put a few extra hooks in for tires, but I need a better wheel/tire solution.

197312_1939195081525_1291834825_2398633_2820636_n.jpg

And last night it got a test run as I had to glue a new "to me" pair of Paves for my road bike. The kid I got them from did a messy base job and got glue everywhere. Not clean and pro like I do. Don't really have any options though as they're sold out for now so I gotta do what I gotta do!!

190000_1939342245204_1291834825_2398802_4941177_n.jpg

No bike sunday or monday. This is the first time I've had a chance to actually sit down and hang out. I don't think I've showered in a few days. Hm. I should go do that. I'll be back later. But wait. Here. Joe from Seven sent me a pic of my frame, it's going in the box NOW!! Sweet!! A week early. They've come through for me yet again. I need to go up there and take them all out to dinner or something😀

198050_1938566385808_1291834825_2397783_1012296_n.jpg

I will fill in as I go along, so much has gone down. So sore and tired, I may skip the shop ride today and just recover a bit.

-Jim.

Love the new shop! Im hoping your exhusted from the move and thus I will be able to hang on tonight 🙂

I have serious bike envy over your new seven. BB30?

It's not BB30. The bottom bracket looks big from the tubeset being so little and steel!!

Love the new shop! Im hoping your exhusted from the move and thus I will be able to hang on tonight 🙂

You should have no problem at all hanging onto me tonight if I come out. I may even go so far as to drop back and hit the B ride. I can't feel my upper body at all this morning😱
