Going Long and Hard.

Is this that new peanut butter from Japan I have been hearing about?

just curious, why no BB30?

A) Ted is correct, a BB30 isn't needed when steel or Ti are involved. That's why most custom frame builders don't use it. Seven will do it as an upcharge for those that must have it though.

B) The BB30 goes against the classic nature of this build.

C) I can't run a green Chris King BB in a BB30😀

I hear you but BB30 is the new classic, just as classic as external bearings 🙄 and chris king BB considering its been out for like 4 years.

In any case, sick!

He's just jealous because he has a shed full of soulless plastic Pacifics😀

Kevin, you know what I mean!! In my brain BB30 or any other press-fit only looks right in an oversized alloy or carbon frame. I'll re-phrase it and say I'm going for a middle-school build😉

Dusty balls, I'm having a custom fender made with a bungee mount so you'll be able to finally keep up when we ride together!!

After cx, I'm all about chris king bb's as relubing is easy AND fun. Plus I heard nothing but bad about maintaining BB30 internals.

I've had good luck with all my BB30 bikes as far as maintenance. The HollowGram cranks OTOH are garbage, so that may be where that rumor started spreading. Swap that out for a Sram Force and you'll be good to go forever.

Maybe SRAM BB30 is better, but I had a black box GXP BB that jammed solid post SSAP last year leaving me thoroughly underwhelmed with them and FSA prior. I'm now like Sneezy - only King for me! 😎

Dude, once you put a King in your bike it's VERY hard to be happy with anything else. I have a Hope in my MudHoney and it's been flawless and un-maintained for 3 seasons, only other external BB I've had that kind of luck with. I however don't like the 1mm spacers you need to run on the Hope, they're a 70mm. Weirdo europeans. I run an XTR in the Sola just because Shimano is one of my MTB sponsors so I reprezent, but a blue King is destined for that bike at some point.

My next project will be the missing piece of my cross puzzle, another MudHoney. I'm tired of wasting time and energy trying to find a bike that holds a grain of salt against that bike so my only option is just build a duplicate:getsome:

It will be 100% Jim-style with Rival and a nice pair of 32h handbuilt wheels. King throughout. The only question is whether I want to do another 1x10 or build one with gears, bottle, and fender mounts, just use the same geo?

Tuesday

Work. Shop ride. Homework.

My normal Tuesday of hustling through to leave for the shop ride took place today. Good ole fashioned PB&J for lunch, nut mix from the Hut for snack.

Shop ride was fairly tame this evening. Norm was one of the key instigators of the evening. At one point I thought we were gonna get a break going but it never came to. I didn't have enough gear to pull hard enough to help too much. Next week the road bike will be in and everyone is dead!! D. E. D. DEAD!! Mike was tired thank god so I was able to hang in the entire ride despite being pretty wiped out from the weekend still. My average HR was just over 140bpm so I hid pretty well. Last week I was over 150 and the ride was 1mph slower. They left me out for a bit after the last sprint point. Nicky won the KOM at the end. Drilled it through the bike path again and murdered it to open up a gap on what was left of the ride. Me, Mike, Sneez, and Jon. I buried myself on the last little climb and barely missed hitting Main Ave before the Sneez went around me. So close. More gears. D. E. D...

So something I take away from these is how comfortable I feel basically riding tempo while guys just explode around me. It reminds me that my fitness is in there somewhere. I'd be curious to see what other guys average to gauge from there. As a for instance, Mike only averaged 248 watts for the ride, which isn't very much at all. Might be due to the fact that he really knows how to dose his power or that his fancy S3 with the deep carbon wheels actually is faster and saving energy, as it advertises. Who knows. I don't. Maybe I'll ride with the PT next week and see. Albeit I'm not going to lie, the "no numbers-no coach" thing, is a god send.😀

this is a "shop ride " ?!
it is more " how to kill you customers "

recently I'm looking at :

http://www.njrando.com/

I recall you saying you are hating road racing since the winner is the one taking advantage on other riders work .

the brevet - it is a mental race against yourself .

Yeah, the first 30 minutes of this ride was pretty bad. So I had to make it interesting. Plus, a guy like Nick comes out to these and he's got to be like, this is an A ride? I personally want more strong guys out so I want to help make it worth it. Plus, I love these rides for killing myself on. Chris is going to be in trouble once Nick knows the sprint points. Speaking of sprints, that older crabby guy is going to kill someone if he keeps jumping out in front of people in the sprints like that. For someone who bitches about everyone else, he does some sketchy shit sometimes.

My average power was 276. I'm not a good comparison though because I use these rides as race training in a lot of ways. I try to contest everything and I never spend any time trying to hide, unless a sprint is coming up 🙂 My aim is to trash myself. My NP was like 349 or something crazy like that. I'm taking out Chris one of these days!

We need the long route. Too many left hand turns in this one. They get mad at us when we try to make a break stick for any length of time.

I think "crabby guy" is Jeff with the red Seven? He gave me the third degree after the ride for pulling too hard on the front when I dip into the left lane. He's like our cranky grandpa. I told him the ride needs to be at least 2 mph average faster or we need to break into an A/AX group. I'm gonna suggest starting at 5:15 again and doing the big loop. This ride really isn't hard enough if I can ride off the front with a 42t single ring. Next week I'm gonna make the ride hard enough to get banned:getsome:

LOL - yes it may be Jeff. He's the guy who peels off left immediately after the last sprint point I think. You do sometimes go too hard after the pull but this isn't a team TT. Most of us just jump on your wheel if you're dangling like that.

Agree about the A/AX split. And the 5:15 start time. I'm with you on the banned part. Though in 3 weeks from now it may be me, you, and Mike and nobody else. Actually Jon is the good climber guy right? He's quiet but a solid rider.
