Going Long and Hard.

That is an awesome example of paceline bliss. It doesn't happen often though. There is a very fine line between bliss and chaos.

on one of the charity rides I did we tried a rotation paceline at one point and man was it a total failure. Not that I knew wtf was going on, but the other people had no clue whatsoever

Anyways, what are the advantages/disadvantages between a pace line and a single line where the person at the front pulls and then drops to the back? Keeping a tighter group?

This is a good demo on how to do it, but it also says
Good way to go fast with about 4 - 8 riders

This type of paceline is impossible with the number and variety of people last night. There is always going to be a certain amount of chaos on a group ride, the more experienced and stronger the riders...the less chaos.
This is also some motivation for breakaways...leave the chaos behind.

Wednesday

Easy'ish recovery commute through the ghetto, in the rain. I actually went a little bit too hard because I had to keep dipping into the lane to go around puddles. The little bit of extra accelerations added up to bring me over the 125BPM cap for the day. Oh well. At least now that I'm on my own there's no one to yell at me😀

Peep this!!

We got a shoe dryer at the shop. Sweet!! No more soggy feet on the ride home. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!

Walked into this bike in my stand, I stripped it yesterday just before I left. Epic rear linkage rebuild. Like 19,000 bearings, bushings, and little washer things to lose. Came out clean and rock solid after pressing all new bearings all the way around.

Another piece of the now "not secret" road project. Classy and traditional.

Had to rip home to make it in time to hit my son's school concert thing. Got to the crib at 6:50. Was dressed in 2 minutes. Made to the school around the corner by 6:58 and sat down just as it started at 7:00. Not sure how many laws I broke in that 6 minute car ride, but it was a lot😀

Food? Sure. We'll do food. Just because today is sorta the flip of yesterday. Breakfast is the same, Detour Protein bar. Today I added a banana when I got to work. Around lunch time I ate those 3 oatmeal cookies that were left from yesterday. I said I'd do it!! Scrubbed around in the fridge around 2 and came up with enough leftover coldcuts from saturday to make myself a cheese sandwich. Spicy mustard. Handful of cheesy poofs, also leftover from saturday. So not the healthiest, but the calories seem about right. During my dash to get home I skipped dinner. We went out for ice cream afterwards and I stopped next door at D&D to get an Egg n' Cheese english muffin. I didn't get ice cream. That was hard. Ice cream is my krptonite!! More than likely gonna dip into my cucumber salad in a few as well. That's it. Doing a longer ride tomorrow so we'll see if it's enough of if I'm gonna pass out 20 miles in:hmmm:

Something else. Gas? Fine. Here's the last time I put gas in my car. 2/28 I put in $15 worth, just over 4 gallons. The needle just hit the red lines today, should be able to make it to friday before I need more. If I filled the tank I wouldn't need to get gas at all this month, I may try that in April. I rode to work 12 times in that period at $3 a day. $36, I'm up $21 so far this month, that's easily enough to cover the rest. I'll put whatever money I'm up into the tank and see how far I can get. The goal is to never take money out of my own pocket for gas😀

Oh, here's the file for the day. Blah.

you put super in that thing because you have to, or because its your baby?

Both. It actually gets better gas mileage with 93. Plus it's only got 125k on it so it makes me feel like I'm taking care of it mo' betterer.

No more squeaky creaky mini epic!!
Definitely solid and ready to be destroyed again :getsome:

lower octane contains more power, and should net you more mpg's, higher octane is just slower burning, prevents detonation on high compression or turbo cars.

I'm glad you fixed Eileen's bike, when I did mine it involved generous use of a hammer. Not sure I could bring myself to use a hammer on someone else's bike 🙂

There's a trick to it without needing to use a hammer. Use deep sockets and a vice. Small socket that's exactly the same size as the outer diameter of the bearing you're pressing out, put a larger one on the other side that's inner diameter is big enough to have the small socket slide into. Put the 2 sockets around the frame part being pressed and pop it into the vice. BAM!! No hammer. Pro tip of the day 😀

Hey I used to do that and was laughed at. In fact, this is why I even own a vice!

This is what they recommend on the enduro bearing site also.

I think it's really the only way of doing it if you think about it. Hitting an unsupported frame linkage with a hammer doesn't seem like a great idea. These things are so friggin' light these days I'm always afraid the stay or something is just gonna snap, especially on a fancy plastic bike.

you can used a c-clamp also, but it maybe be difficult to find the right size that will fit the sockets and width of the frame. It is also hard as the ends slide around a bit but that is where 20 different size washers comes in handy.

Thursday

Roubaix!! The plan was to leave from my house and meet the guys on the road and then end at the shop. My Bunny gave me some issues in the morning so I was a few minutes late😱

Sexy Rob got a flat in the first 1/2 mile of dirt. We wasted a Co2 trying to inflate the new tube because he bought some sweet tubes with like 20mm valves on sale from Campmor. Secteur #2 was uneventful. In Secteur #3 Ben warned me of a stick on the road, I moved over, he clipped it with his foot and it flipped perfectly into my front wheel. No one died, game on. Also in Secteur #3 a piece of gravel must have bounced onto Joe Mundi's new Cervelo and he bailed. He didn't want to scratch his bike🙄

Secteur #4 we got caught behind a horse buggy thing. There were 4 HUGE horses pulling this carriage. We followed them for a bit and then they let us go around. I have no idea what kind of horses they were, but they were bigger than the ones I'm used to seeing out there. We ran into horses in the last Secteur as well.

Pace was where it need to be, mostly thanks to Ben ragging on me every time I went a little hard. I needed to stay sub-140, I ended up at 130, so it was a very easy ride. Such a nice day out!!

Hard day to jump off the bike and go to work. But the shop is plenty busy so I must go. Tons of normal repairs, spring is here. As the schedule gets more and more backed up I won't have as much time to goof around with taking pictures of all the builds, it's started to go by kinda fast!! I have a bike in my stand right now that I'll snap when I'm done just because it's different.

Part #? for my not-secret road build.

Green Hudz!! I now have green tape, green hoods, and green cables. I will see which combo looks best and not use the rest. I'm leaning towards hoods and cables. It's gonna be cool!! My tubular tire karma came around also as I donated one of my old tires as a spare, and then Mr. Sneez donated one of his old Paves to me. SWEET!!

Somewhere throughout the day I picked up a bug of some kind. My throat started to hurt and I felt like poo by the end of the day. Blah. I had my wife come pick me up. I went to sleep as soon as I came home. Still feel weird this morning, gonna take a day off the bike, it's a recovery day anyway so it works out nice.

The file....

Joe was super excited to murder the Roubaix loop until then. I told him Thor Hushold is crying right now😀
