Going Long and Hard.

It's monday? Holiday's messing me all up.
I garmined my shoveling. I'm counting it as 3 hours 40 minutes of base training. We will all defriend Jim if he get's another Seven. The tax auditor will be knocking too. 😀

ill be all over you if you get a THIRD seven...son.

Well, there's still a very good chance it'll happen. This year may be the year I pull the trigger on a matching MudHoney. Having an Axiom as well would drop me into the 4 Sevens club and put me one up on Mundi and only 1 behind the Sneez. That's just too much, even for a bike snob like myself😀

-Jim.

Screw these guys Jim! One can never have enough Sevens.

They just don't understand what it's like to actually own a bike that fits, rides, and handles correctly yet😉

Tuesday

Commuted to work in the MAYHEM!! Mayhem? There was no mayhem. Once I got off my street everything was completely fine, no snow on the roads at all. There were no shoulders though so I had to ride in the street. And Washington Rock was pretty much a single lane so I had to stop so cars could go by. It was an adventure. I rode through Washington Rock Park to get an idea of what the untouched snow is probably like on the trails. It would seem DEEP. I'd say about a foot or so.

The snow was melting and freezing across the road when I came back from the warehouse after work so I called my wife to come get me. Dark and black ice don't mix so well.

That is all.

First version was criticized for not having enough fire and skulls. Capers took the cool photo of the train and I destroyed it with some ham fisted Photoshop work. I'm sure a 3rd version will be needed with more blood and lightning.

Friday

Fast forward. My son's been sick for the past few days so I haven't been on the bike until today. Yesterday we finally brought him to the doctor to find out he has Abscess Tinsilitis? His throat's been bugging him. They popped with a shot or 3 of penicillin and then again this morning so he's doing better. He'll need to stay chill for a few days and stay home on monday so I'll lose a day next week as well.

We actually closed the shop today so I was able to get in a ride. A few of us hit my Roubaix-A-Raptor loop on the mountain bikes. Had to work a bit harder on the MTB but we managed to run the loop in nearly the same time as with the road bike. Werd. Murder. Other than Tyler losing his new Garmin it was a pretty straight forward bike day😀

I can't tell anyone enough times how good doing loops like this are to raise your fitness. It doesn't seem like a hard ride on paper, but do it, your legs will explode:getsome:

Tomorrow I'm gonna "attempt" to do the D&R to 6-Mile loop and see how that goes. If it sucks I'll just do an extra hour and/or 4 on the canal.

-Jim.

Numbers

2010 total.

6,612.45 miles in 449.60 hours. That's down a bit from my goal but not terrible considering I was off the bike for 2 months when I broke my arm.

Sorta the same story for '09.

6,405.38 miles in 413.39 hours. Off the bike about the same duration when I broke my shoulder/arm/ribs/back/etc...

So, goals for '11 then? No. 1 goal. Try to stay together long enough to get in a full season. I'll be racing open so I have no intentions of being competitive in the series overall. I'm actually excited about that because it will allow me to sweet pick races that I like and branch out a little more. I'm very interested in the endurance thing so we'll give that a try. 50 milers are a no brainer being that most rides I do are in that range anyway. Maybe I can stay together long enough to hit the DH40? That'd be sweet!! Gonna hit Battenkill finally, again, no brainer being that I do a harder loop than that how many times a month? I think that's really about it. Base begins tomorrow and the new season is upon us already!!

Today

What is today anyway? Oh yeah, SATURDAY!! Too many days off I have no idea what's going on anymore. Blah. Today me and Sean went out to hit the Canal and 6-Mile. Tyler and Joe were supposed to come as well but they both died in the face from the Roubaix ride, I think Tyler had a heart attack or something. MURDER!!

Anyway, back to today. Took the mountain bikes out again. Sean brought his cross bike, what a girl, I made him leave it behind. Good thing too, we made it about 1/2 way down the canal before we just got stuck. You couldn't pedal at all, the snow was too wet and grippy. We walked for a bit and escaped across to Canal Road on one of the pedestrian bridges.

Just for shits and giggles we rode about 10 feet into 6-Mile just to see what the trails were like. Blah. Not riding in there anytime soon. It doesn't look bad, but you don't move when you try to pedal.

We finished by doing the Rutgers "1st Bridge Loop" back into the hood. It took like 2.5 hours to ride 30 miles. Werd. Here's the file.

Tomorrow we have a pretty good group heading out to do the Roubaix loop again. Should be a good paced ride, I put the 1.8 Dry-X's on the Sola so I can keep up with the guys on the cross bikes. Pohndorf is threatening to come out so things could get real painful, real fast:getsome:

In other news. My super secret road project has another complete piece, I glued my tires up so the wheels are ready to rock!! I love to friggin' light tubulars are. Even beefy ones are lighter than any clincher set-up out there. I'm sorta excited!! Sorta. Peep the class.

Also unmentioned as of yet. Mike had some custom Sram buckles made up and I got one. I put it on one of those ECO Bontrager belts that's made from old tubes. Trendy I know. I took the buckle off that and put it on my Small Block 8 belt Julien made. Now it's more awesomer. Such a bike nerd, I know. Don't hate.

Hate? That belt oozes awesomeness! It's kind of metal-punk-eco-bike nerd all in one.
I would even consider wearing it and I'm neither a metal punk nor a hippy. I'm just not tough enough to pull off wearing one.🙄
