Going Long and Hard.

I've only found 2 small issues with the waffels.

A) You need to pre-cut the package before your ride because they are damn near impossible to open on the bike.

Opened one this morning with gloves on in the freezing cold first try son!
Jason and Fred witnessed - I got skillz. :getsome:

POWER!!

Ok, now throw that and that dumb chainring away and ride your mountain bike!! Mountain bike son!!:getsome:

Tuesday

Werd. Today I chucked my Roubaix wheelset onto my MudHoney to test them out during my commute into work. BLINGIN'!! Of course I'd imagine anything will feel pretty good after riding the MTB on the road the past couple weeks:hmmm:

Pretty straight forward. A little icy on the roads, not that big of a deal on the way in, but riding home at night was a little sketchy in some spots.

Here. File.

We got this crazy thing in at the shop today. It was super silly to ride around. No, I'm not talking about Utah, albeit that could be interesting also.

It's an elliptical bike. One of the dumber things I've seen. The feet things are carbon fiber. WTF!!??

Also, our Good Goes Around bike donation program thing made it into some interweb show of sorts. Good publicity. We've donated around 550 bikes since the inception and 330 this past Christmas. There's a few karma points.

Rone has the same haircut as me, biter. That is all for now.

Catch up

Wednesday. Shop holiday/year-end dinner. I rode the bike into work with a backpack filled with my dressy nice clothes. After work my wife picked me up so we can head over to the restaurant Rone rented on Liberty Corner. It's easy to forget how many people actually work for High Gear until we're all in a room together. Jesus!! I think we had around 50 people that came out.

We had a nice 5-course meal laid out. Of course there was nothing veggie on the menu so Rone had the chef come out and asked him to make me whatever I wanted. It was awesome, he made some ill vegetable penne thing. Badass. Everyone had a great time, it was a ton of fun. Thanks Rone!!

Here's the file for my ride. Nothing exciting.

Thursday

So with the late night it was harder to get motivated this morning than usual. Had a shorter Roubaix loop planned to explore the stuff around Round Valley. It took a little longer than I thought to get out there so I didn't have enough time to hit everything on the menu but I found some cool stuff to add to the Roubaix-A-Raptor loop.

We'll start with this. I'm done with the Honey Stinger waffels, they taste great but they need to get it together a bit, I want to eat waffels, not dust out of a bag. So today I bought these mini "euro" waffels and popped them in the toaster and brought a bunch on my ride. WINNER!! A) They are easier to get out and eat and B) They're actually WAFFELS!! Have to see what it's like on a long ride, but this is a good start.

I wonder how Biscoff Spread will hold up in my jersey pocket?

Anyway. I went up the back way up to RV to see if that went anywhere useful. It doesn't. Just ends up at the park. Fun for an MTB ride, not a roubaix loop.

Dropped down past the Stanton General store to see where Foothill goes. Nice road but it dumps onto a highway at the end so you can't connect it to anything. Poop.

I saw a dirt road off to the side not on the map so I followed that but it ended up being some guy's driveway and dumped onto the highway anyways. Poop.

Doubled back and hit Woods-something which is a cool dirt road. Found some park with a trail map? Couldn't explore in there today but I'll wander around to see if anything useful can be had in there.

Continued on and found a farm that has Buffaloes running around. I didn't know there were buffaloes in NJ. Of course I tried to get close to one so I rode into the farm and tried to feed one of them a waffel. He almost went for it. I took out the phone to snap a picture of him and leaned into the electric fence and zapped myself. Scared the crap out of me and he ran like hell!! Oh well.

And here's the landscape on this road. Scenic. I like this whole area. I wish I could convince my wife to move out there but she's be pretty far from work. Maybe I can get her to go 1/2 way?

When I got out of there I hooked it into Lightfield and then will connect it to Island and back into the normal loop. There's a road or 2 on the other side I need to explore to connect it better but I ran out of time. Goofed around too much today!! Oh well, it's what we're supposed to be doing this time of year right?

Here's the file...

That is all for now. It's supposed to do something tonight I hear. I have my rain gear out just in case.

-Jim.

Jim,

You were over in my neck of the woods today. That map is Deerpath Park off of Woodschurch road. There are some decent trails in there, the Peter Buell trail is kind of a mini RV, some sections are pretty steep. There are also a bunch of Readington Equestrian trails that I haven't been able to find maps of that branch off from those.

Tim

haha, me too. I rode past those bison once and was also amazed. Jim, did the general store open back up?

The general store is open again. I didn't stop there to check it out, I should've.

Tim, do you have a Garmin file of a loop in there? Or, better yet, is it worth dropping down into from Round Valley to make a bigger loop? Might be fun to try.

Getting zapped was pretty funny. I wonder if any farm guys were around and saw that? They probably hide and wait for cyclists to touch the fence. I know I would😀

Jim,

I'll have to check, I don't really ride there much anymore, I was riding there more when I first started. The horse trails aren't real well marked from what I remember, so I used to just poke around and I never found a really good loop. The Peter Buell trail is more of an out and back off-road but I'm sure you could string it together if you ventured out on the road also.

Today aka, friday.

The snow!! So, there was snow. See the snow? It was a snowy snow. I had my gear all ready to Rock and/or Roll but I decided to drive in just in case they closed school early and I'd have to run out to get the boys. Blah. Should've ridden. As usual it was a lot of hub bub about nothing.

First thing I walk into this morning was this thing.

167756_1791678233696_1291834825_2124344_6709171_n.jpg

This is Dennis' new whip. He's been a C-Dale guy for like 100 years so he has like 50 Leftys and wheels so he's building it up like this until he can buy a G2 Fox and a new front wheel. It's interesting. It also settled the biggie about me running one of these. The handlebars are OVER 4 inches higher than my Seven even with a negative 25 degree stem on the Lefty. Retarded high. It's fine for him because he's old and inflexible so he rides the bars higher than his seat normally. That's just not how I roll son.

I got shipped over to the warehouse because we were kinda slow today. Good times. Eric decided to cut himself and bleed all over the damn place!! Pete took him over to get all stitched up while I stayed behind to clean up all the blood. Which after I left they had to clean even again. It was kinda gross, but kinda cool at the same time. You know how that is.

When I got back to the shop I had a pile of goodies on my bench for my various projects. Couple parts for the super-pimp-secret road project. New little size Thomson post.

36252_1792477613680_1291834825_2126136_6456175_n.jpg

And a brand new EC90 SL fork I found on the eBay for $100. PS-Easton no longer does EP for forks. Bastages.

167076_1792476453651_1291834825_2126132_6070613_n.jpg

I got the rest of the parts for my 10-speed MTB conversion. Had to get the bigger MRP for the 38t front ring. The blue was super cool until I actually put it on. Ugggh. So gay. Blah.

162721_1792423812335_1291834825_2125992_6957663_n.jpg

11-36 XT in the back and the shorter cage RD. XT shifter.

166665_1792464733358_1291834825_2126099_2210870_n.jpg

Now the bike needs brakes and a wheelset. Brakes will be XT, wheels may be as well, unless I do blue Kings with Crests. Maybe I'll do both.

That is all. I have to go to a wedding tomorrow. It may screw up my ride plans for the weekend. I hate weddings.
