I like the payout idea. Especially the part where a first place in Cat1 is worth the same as 10th place in Open, that'll help get guys moved up. It would also seem that Maurice is set to earn himself a healthy paycheck 😀

Can we discuss start times? Moving cat 1 to an earlier start and actually make the loops longer instead of just adding laps. I realize these are dramatic changes but some of the concerns that may keep me from racing h2h as a cat 1

I think they are considering Cat 2, then Cat1/pro, then Cat 3

That would be a great idea... to me anyway.
I also like the open class idea.... seems like the jump from cat 2 to cat 1 has been pretty drastic and this may ease that.

Great news on the payouts for pro.

I would also love to see earlier race times for Cat 1/pro.

I raced Cat 2 for more pictures and sleeping in, so much for that 🙁

Glad to see them mixing the race schedule around as well.

Why pay any cash to Cat1? The payout for 10th in pro is the same as 1st in Cat1. Some racers may only move up to pro if they are confident that they will finish 10th or better.

I believe that only the pros should get paid. They are that good and deserve to be rewarded for putting on a show. The rest of us are just amateurs. An amateur races for the love of the sport and the challenge that racing provides. If you are motivated by getting paid, then you should expect to earn it.

The H2H series has been stagnant for too long. I'm in favor of some dramatic changes in an attempt to attract new racers and a new attitude.

They have to make the reward large enough to attract racers who wouldn't have come in previous years. If this idea sticks, I bet Maurice will be lining up with racers he has never seen before.

I believe start times were discussed at the promoters meeting, and voted to remain the same for 2011 with some restrictions. I would wait for the formal posting before getting too excited about a major change.

Also, although pro/cat 1 women will all race together for one payout, they will be awarded 3 series jerseys: Pro, Cat 1 Sr and Cat 1 40+. Points will be awarded value from combined finish.

Good points. With such a deep payout you'll see the Pro/cat 1 class grow dramatically. I'm pretty sure they cribbed the payout schedule from the MASS schedule and those races are usually stacked. In regards to the start times, don't expect any changes this year. I myself was hoping for an endurance series run in conjuction with the series. 4-6 hour races that would start at 8am or so and runon the same course.

This is GOOD stuff here. I echo Ben's sentiment. There is tons of cool shwag out there to keep ppls happy. And just to pile on top of everyone else Id like to see earlier start times as well. 🙂

I'm 100% in support of moving the payout to the pro/elite category. In fact, I'm going to go to an all-you-can-eat buffet tonight and put on weight so I can then be 110% in favor of this.

Like Ben, I would ask why bother with paying expert at all? I would be in favor of moving all the cash up to the open class, and making it 20 deep (which is what MASS does, no?).

I would also suggest the open class do the same number of laps as expert - again, just like MASS. I think many of the races were like this already. But I'd like to see a general policy that the open class is the same as the expert class. I believe the expert races are too long to be considered XC anymore. Some guys actually had longer race times at Wawayanda than they did for the DH40.

This would be a great step overall, IMO.

As for start times, I'd suggest some variation. Let some races shake it up and have cat 1 go first. Next race let cat 2 go first. Shake it up, just so everyone gets to race at a different time, depending on the venue.

I got excited when our opinion was asked, but then according to Pixy there was a meeting with voting and all that jazz. So is this a real asking of opinion, or just a formality or red herring or whatever.

From conversations I had on Sunday, I was under the impression that there were still more meetings that were going to be taking place.

Would like to see former top 3 or 5 of any group below pro be ineligible for cash/points/overall to incentivize moving up. (similar to cx rule this year)

If your availability for a race time requires you to stay in the same cat, no problem. This way you wouldn't receive any benefits though. So no "forced" upgrade, but no prizes either.

I think the courses should be shorter also. If you have to run an extra lap, so be it. I've talked to a lot of people who agree with this sentiment, though it rarely comes up as a discussion point.

Are these meetings public? Maybe have a representative from each team to chime in on these.

Yeah I got excited as well mainly regarding start times. I will be moving to cat1 next season and it has been interesting talking with a lot of people who are doing the same and the biggest issue is that we will likely only do a couple of races because of the time away from family and necessary life commitment stuff. I think a great idea would be to do some kind of survey so that these decisions could be made using actual information to determine what would meet the demands of the greatest amount of participants. This seems like an obvious thing to do for any business that is looking to increase (or at worst)maintain customers. Ultimately and obviously it would serve the series/promotors better by bigger turnouts. My wife happens to be a professional marketing and research person and I am sure I could twist her arm to put together a simple study that would cover the necessary information. My personal thought is that if cat1 went early that it could encourage more people to move up as well as bring back a lot of people to the series who dropped out after cat2. Keeping it real, I know many people including myself that avoided moving up based on that logistically I would not be able to make enough races to do the series which really kills motivation.
