Pearl's Generic Talk

What do you eat/drink in the hour after you ride?

Ha, let the floodgates open. This is why this isn't a training thread. This may turn into a "how to avoid headaches" thread though.

After our Colt 20 loop, we went to Five Guys.

After the Six mile TT, I went to Casa and had a nice 20 oz soda and two chicken quesadillas.

After the KVSP race, Went to a local restaurant maybe 3 hours later, I had a full 1/2 pound hamburger and fries, soda and water, and half of Mandi's burger too.

Am I not putting enough GOOD food in my face after I shred?

Yet you weigh 80 pounds...... Amazing.

I'll always gotten headaches after mountain bike rides and really grueling road rides. I've found that popping a couple of ibuprofens right after the ride before the headache sets in helps. I still feel like I have a very minor migraine (sluggish, achy) in a few hours, but nothing like a full blown headache. And I've tried everything else.

Do you take multi-vitamins? Try popping a daily multi for a while and see if it helps.

Like the Flintstone kind? I guess that would make sense. I know I'm not eating healthy enough and I'm sure my headache is telling me I'm missing vital pieces to my diet. I'd be interested to try. I'm going to try and do some sort of low effort ride on the road tomorrow and see what comes of it, doing what I normally do nutrition wise.

That's always a bonus when I go out to eat with my wife...I get a plate and a half 😀

it's a fast metaboloimisim or something, right?

It WILL catch up with you 😀 My diet consisted of over eating complete garbage at every meal (pretty much still is...) and I was always super thin. Then I hit about 24 or 25 and all of the sudden 15 pounds showed up 🙄

Thats what I keep hearing; Hopefully I can stay on the bike and straighten it out by then.

I'll be adding videos through out the rest of the night for you MTBNJers.

All that crap food has plenty of vitamins/minerals and carbs/proteins. It has other crap too that you don't need but as you point out, you're young and invincible.

I'd try drinking a quart of water shortly after you're done. And after every ride reward yourself with a YooHoo or chocolate milk. Figure that fits your lifestyle so it might stick.

The multi probably isn't going to gain you much, but it won't hurt. I take that and a calcium supplement after I ride. If you sweat a lot, it may be more important. But the water is also important.

"3 hours later" is way too long. Try to eat and drink immediately after. On the 20 mile ride I would wager you ate & drank far too little and had no chance. It may also be your body saying "F you I'm not ready for this I'm going to try and fry your brain."

Thanks for the input. I'm glad you all care about my health more than anything else. I will keep all you updated.

My new vholdr mount kind of sucks. I actually got to be on video too.

Last year I would get like a hangover after every hard effort. Ever since I've trained pretty regularly I havent got a headache. For me, it was just getting my body ready for hard efforts and the body and head followed

This is almost on the verge of a migraine.

Yeah, mine builds up to a full blown migraine later in the day if I don't take the ibuprofen. One thing that I've recently thought of that I just started doing is mixing some salt with my water. I was doing it to help with cramps on more grueling road rides, but I'm wondering if it will help with the headaches. Everything else that everyone has mentioned I already do or tried.

Rode my bike to work and I'm pretty sure I was sexually harassed by one of the house keepers. She whistled and make howling noises. She's a 60yr old Hatian lady. She wants me

The neck muscle comment may have some truth behind it. I've had headaches from neck strains and I could easily see how you could get one after riding.

I used to get headaches too. I found that eating things with sugar in them after the ride helped. I also now use an electrolyte drink in one of my bottles. Coffee after a ride always worked but its the worst recovery drink (diuretic). So no more coffee...😡

Wait, your lawn is growing?:hmmm:

I think I saw a cheetah run down an antelope in my back yard the other day, but it was too dusty for me to be sure.

Lol, well no, not really. I have your normal sized lot, and when I mow it when its healthy I usually fill 2 garbage cans with the clippings. Yesterday I barely filled the bag on the mower 2 times. More weed whackin' than anything.

Hey Pearl, could it be a fit issue on the bike? In relation to the neck strain thing mentioned.

I can tell you that Pearl is roughly the same height and build as me (although I may have 15-20 lbs on him) But the few times I jumped on his bike, I felt like I was riding a kid's bike.
