lol, I thought the same way as you 10 year ago. The main issue as you get older is recovery and how long it takes. For example 2 weeks I was out on my road bike and I got hit, did a OTB at around 15 mph. Cracked a rib and street pizzaed both knees, my elbow and shoulder. When I was 20 years old I would be out on the bike the next day. Sadly I have been hobbled for the past 2 weeks.. getting old is not for wimps.View attachment 242377View attachment 242378View attachment 242379View attachment 242380

Damn, how did I miss this?
How's it going? healing ok?

Knees, shoulder an elbow are pretty much ok but the cracked rib is another issue. A cough or sneeze feels like a knife to the ribs. Really sucks, converted my bike to coil f&r and I just want to plow some nar but the rib is killing my summer.

seems like good news compared to the possibilities.....keep healing - sending some energy your way.

It gets frustrating when kids, work, life… get in the way and my fitness goes to shit. I know I can still rip on a bike but when you’re sucking wind, it’s kinda hard. I roll past jibs and features and skip the B lines because I’m just trying to make it up the hill without hacking a lung. Now that I’m in my 50s, it’s even tougher to get (and stay) in prime shape.

I definitely see an eBike in my future. I honestly can’t afford one yet. All my money is going to my kids and their activities. I don't want to sell my mountain bike either, so I’ll just have to wait it out. Stay tuned.

I’m not buying an e bike because I can steal whatever I want from work, but, after this test here’s what I would if I had to do it.

LevoSL S3 with a 70mm stem, flat bar, 29er rear wheel, and range extender.

While the power and battery life of a full may be better, I completely miss the feeling of riding a mountain bike with it. With the SL you can still hop logs and do most of the things you can on a regular MTB, just use Turbo on the climbs and Eco everywhere else to take the sucky part out of your ride.

I’d imagine the Gen4 SL will have a 500Wh battery and 400ish watt motor which would honestly be a game changer. I’ll dig for clues in the next Master Tech meeting…

I haven't found full-power e-bikes all that difficult to hop over logs. Especially with clipless pedals. As I mentioned during my odyssey into buying an e-bike over in the "show your e-bike" thread, this was actually a surprise to me as I was originally shopping for lighter e-bikes such as the Levo SL (which I actually bought and still technically own). I thought the 50 lbs weight would bother me more than it does.

@Steve Vai - out of curiosity, is there any possibility of buying just a replacement front triangle assembly for a 2021 Levo SL? Say in a size L? Then maybe I could just swap the guts over from my size M and then have a second e-bike I could actually ride.

This morning’s Commute on the big bike. Actually not a ton of difference. Turbo is a lot faster but Trail Mode is sorta like Eco on the SL. I feel like the added weight cancels out the extra power? And the S4 is so much better feeling size-wise.

Good that you mentioned the size, we're about the same height but wasn't sure if I should be on a S3 or S4. Time to sell some analog bikes to make room when the next tent sale happens

I’m in the same boat, this is universal with anyone that has kids that have activities. I’ve been driving to track meets during the week and on weekends since January because it’s junior year and the times really matter now. I rode once every 2 weeks maybe? It just ended at New Balance Nationals in June, and now I’m out of shape as fuck. Every ride hurts, but that’s the deal, it’s not supposed to be easy. Plus I can’t make my kids run speed workouts twice a week and then roll on a ride with them on an e-bike.

As an aside, e-bikes and manuals in cars going away; the arguments and justifications are similar for both.

It would have to be a frameset because the swingarms are size specific. Possibly, would have to talk to someone in Warranty to confirm.

I figured it would be a long shot. With any luck I'll be able to sell the bike and the idea will go away.

As an aside, I just made plans to buy the complete opposite of an e-bike - a used competition trials bike. Because... you know... N+1... 🙄 ...and I've always wanted to try a trials bike. And the price is cheap enough that I shouldn't have too much trouble moving it along in a year or so.

Sweet. If you want to take that bike out let me know. A modern Trials bike is the opposite of anything you've ever stepped over and nothing you know now will transfer over. It's basically like learning how to juggle while riding a unicycle 🤣

Well, I can't juggle or ride a unicycle, so I'm sure it'll be an interesting learning experience. I'm figuring it'll mostly get used hopping around stuff in my back yard and on some of the boulder slopes at Neshaminy which are a fairly short ride/hike from the parking lot.

I got mine recently and I really like going up hills at 8-10mph when I would probably have been going 3 in the past.

Keep looking there are occasional deals out there. I waited a long time before getting lucky, I bought mine as a demo for almost 1/2 of MSRP .

I answered 'no' but honestly I see myself getting a cargo e-bike or commuter e-bike before I go for an e-mtb. Already have too many off-road bikes in the garage and an e-mtb seems like a luxury rather than a need (where as a cargo e-bike could legitimately reduce the amount of car trips I'm taking). I'm glad they're allowing people to get out and enjoy the trails though.

The Rider Care people got back to me and they won’t sell a frameset without the electronic bits. If you cracked the frame they’d replace it with the a full frame as well, which seems like a waste, but that’s the deal.
