Here’s the what not to do: If you are ever laying out a trail system do not put the trail on an old logging/mining road alignment that has knee deep mud in spots.

Here’s the what not to do: If you are ever laying out a trail system do not put the trail on an old logging/mining road alignment that has knee deep mud in spots.

The not to do in this case is block the water with the armoring. Looks like ample gaps.

Opt’ed to cut at home over field cut simply because it easier to get to the site. I used 3 2x10’s from the old bridge at the start of the rock side, however it kinda bothers me so will replace eventually. While i didnt snap a line and trim, i did cut off the longer pieces to try and appease @Patrick. Those lower supports on the DH side kinda aren’t needed but i ghetto’ed them in regardless.

Great little segment on no-dig / no ride. This really applies to "features" and specifically berms, jumps and rollers. As all of us have seen, as these things become part of many trail systems, they require more maintenance than your basic signal track.

Yes, last year I was clearing a trail blocking tree at water company, I had just opened it up and was cleaning up the area. Saw is on the ground, debris all over, wood chipping, etc, and i was completed drenched in sweat, i.e., it was clear I was working on it. 6 runners came through, I said good morning looking the lead one in the eyes. One of them grunted, the rest of them didn't say anything.

Last summer clearing a tree at Wharton a rider rode over the tree (came up from behind me) that i was in the middle of sawing.....
