NJ Backcountry Skiing Spots????

Whats the ghetto way to try this back country thing out if the opportunity arises?

I think the backpack is the way to go if you’re looking for alpine only. All hikes here are short enough, and changing boots isn’t the worst thing in the world for a few runs. If you don’t have touring gear or BC XC skis it’s fine. It’s a slog without snowshoes, but even snowshoes sorta suck. But you’re hiking 400-600 vert at most, so it’s really not much to have to deal with.

I'm surprised @UtahJoe hasn't commented in this thread. I seem to recall him telling me once how awesome it sounded to walk up a hill in order to ski down it.

I have hiked snowbowl...I mean if you want to hike for 30 min to ski down a green run a shawnee....wasnt really steep enough to get moving in the powder as I recall. I once hiked the tourne and skied the rock line with all the jumps on it....slightly more entertaining, but its alot of walking for 1 or 2 minutes of downhill.

I remember why I did this...after buying xc skis and really giving it a go...i was bored to death, so i said fuck it...ill just walk up the hill and ski down. Unless you go to a groomed track like Iggy does...XC skiing is just walking with long snow shoes on anyway.
In Utah, maybe. In NJ there isn't a huge reward for your effort.
Pretty much...Utah is only a 3.5 hour flight away and snowbird is only 45min from the airport....Closer than most of vermont

I think these two threads covered quite a bit:

I like how a DH off the grid ski thread turned into an XC ski thread. Maybe you can just do yoga instead. I heard it preps you well for job interviews.
When has a thread stayed on topic around here? I’m surprised it’s not turning to bathroom tiles and radiant floor heating. Yet.

That said, about 6” here in Hillsborough so not enough for the Sourlands. I opted for 6 Mile and had the best time I have had on my Hoks so far.

I was just looking for a way to loop it back to the yoga comment.

Hey totally unrelated but what bathroom tiles do you think are best for this new Bathroom Yoga with Iggy class I am taking?

Am I the official MTBNJ yoga guy now?
Maybe I can do an XC and downhill ski hybrid while working on my hand stands while going downhill.

I expected the "Bathroom Yoga..." to be a link.
