Wildlife

98% sure I just saw my first bear cub at the Tourne. It was just going left up Purple as I headed towards Teal. I rated following them (assuming momma was around) as unwise, so I gave it a minute and rode past. Unfortunately it'd disappeared by then.

Either bear cub or possibly a large Bobcat, which woulda been cool too. Dark brown, large paws, bob/no tail, pretty fuzzy. As I've seen bears there but never a Bobcat, I'm playing the odds. And no, it wasn't a dog.
I'm usually not too worried about bears but it was getting dark and I will admit to being nervous on the way out.
No, I didn't take a picture!😀

Sorry for the giant pic. I found this little guy hopping down the middle of the blue trail in allaire.

Kind of wildlife related...found this 6' long shed snakeskin along the pipeline in Ringwood near the green trail. Nearly a perfect, full shed skin, head to tip of tail.

Does this qualify as "wildlife"?? He was trying to hitch a ride to my house from Lewis Morris.

Fortunately, he was easier to hop over than a race marshall.
Sorry for the lousy photos, was holding my bike and swatting mosquitoes with the other.
Paging Capers, what do we have here?

Baby Pine Snake?

Baby Pine Snake?

Thats actually a Baby Black Rat snake. Good guess though, they do sort of resemble pine snakes. The juveniles look nothing like the adults. As it gets older, it will loose it's colors and diamond patterns and turn completely black.

Beautiful snake!

It seemed every road I hit today on the roadie there was a super stinky flattened rotting carcasses. Must have been a bad week for the animal kingdom.

no kidding. skunks are the worst. saw a ton of live ones too on my ride yesterday. had a large fox run right out in front of me even. that was pretty cool.

Was much less blurry in real life.

jmanic's life is in high def.

Yesterday was baby animal day. Saw a doe with 2 fawns and then later a little bunny sitting on a sidewalk. Also seems to be a strong correlation between high school graduation parties and broken beer/booze bottles along road shoulders. Can't believe I didn't get a flat...

lots of snakes and turtles oh my!

been pretty much just riding in KVSP this year. lots of what I call glow in the black snakes and lots of painted turtles. tons of small toads yesterday. Nothing like a good toad stew to fuel a MTB ride (just kidding!)

has everyone heard/seen the cicadas? rode LM last sunday and saw/heard them. lots of holes in the dirt.

did a road ride this past sunday to chester and near the mendham border the cicadas were really loud. I recorded them for about 30 seconds on my phone.
