Who wants to build a Bike Park?

Yes it's a little more BMX style than many would probably like or want but I think something like this could bring in so many kids to riding bikes and give them great skills at the same time. Sawpi has Sunday morning dig/maintenance sessions every week which is good for the kids (and some adults too).

Cool about the 63 year old getting early mornign laps there!

@don This is cool...I'm familiar with the park though I've never ridden it. I work for a company based in Thousand Oaks (and am a member of their cycling club that supports CORBA) and I have spent many nights out there (before COVID) and in Westlake Village. The Conejo (which means rabbit btw) Valley is a beautiful area. Recently one of the locals, Reggie Miller from NBA, joined the board of USA Cycling, He does a lot of MTB in that area...

This sounds like the dream:

Now to find 400 acres in NJ someone will donate.

This is very impressive. I like how they are structuring it and using a piece of a bigger park. I like the fund raising and how Diamond Back is sponsoring one line. It seems well thought out.

He makes a really good point about Riveter and Kanuga. A friend of mine is going to Riveter later this month and asked if I wanted to go. I'm not sure if I can go or not but having another spot to ride "down there" would make me think a little more about it.

With the snowboard season being a little unknown right now I've been tossing around getting a trip to Bentonville. I think these southern places could make a case for biting into the ski industry.

No way! I've been seeing Sawpi from the start as an old online RideMonkey buddy has helped with it (Jeremy Combs) and would post about it even before they broke land. I think a park like this would be great at the base of some big parks. I'm not sure if that large field in the back part of Huber is actually Huber Woods property but it would be perfect for a setup like this. Allaire is another spot where something like this would be a no brainer for the younger and stunt oriented riders.

That is part of Huber Woods Park System property.

I agree, that piece of land is perfectly located and the soil structure is perfect for building a mini bike park, it has practically no rock and the soil is kind of like an infield softball mix which is easy to work with and pack. Also that area rolls around the property for just the right amount of elevation.

Sadly, however it is surrounded by big $$$, which means adding anything new is going to be met with resistance. There was a proposal to increase the size of the Claypit lot at Hartshorne and add a small dock to waterfront with kayak and small boat launch. It didn't get very far, that idea got shifted to the old Chris's Landing property in Red Bank and the county plans to develop that into more of a mini park with nicer boat launch area.

There is hope in Monmouth county in the western part, out near Millstone. The soil is good and the county owns property, hopefully one day a bike park can and will be built there.
😀
