Sometimes I just do things the hard way?
I bought two struts for my car as they only had the driver's side in stock as a Bilstein, so I bought the passenger side as a Monroe Quick Strut. Yeah, doesn't match but it was $45 for a whole quick strut. For $45 I'll buy another one in 50k if I have to or put in a Bilstein if available.
Quick strut went on easy with the exception of the sawzall to the sway bar end link as of course the hex insert was destroyed. Not a huge deal.
Bigger PITA was I was re-using the spring and shock mount from the strut I took out. Nut was seized on. Sawzall again. Since the upper bearing got hot as hell I cleaned and regreased it. Used the nut that came with the strut to hole down the spring/mount and will just re-use the huge OEM nut on top.
Can see the strut on the left is missing all it's threads. Strut on the right has the spring/mount installed ready to go on the driver's side.

I sold my air tools when I moved as I didn't want to deal with a big air compressor. I actually was going to say "My biggest mistake was not buying the Milwaukee cut off wheel last year when on sale at Home Depot."
I think my trash finder has a bad right front strut. Was looking into getting KYB complete assembly to install. Also new tires arrived Saturday.Sometimes I just do things the hard way?

I should have just gone that way. I forgot that if they lasted 40k that's like 8 years with the mileage I put on the car.iv had really good luck with monroes quickstruts, close to 50k on them in my truck now and no problems. F that spring compressor crap, dont save nearly enough to justify that aggravation.

Although a lot of that is basically off-road.
Was coming to say this. Not to mention the price to pay if the spring comes out of the compressor…iv had really good luck with monroes quickstruts, close to 50k on them in my truck now and no problems. F that spring compressor crap, dont save nearly enough to justify that aggravation.

Quick struts for me 100%
For sure. My usual philosophy is if I have to take it off a new one is going back on (within reason) so this also plays into it.if you replace the isolators and other ancillary stuff its actually cheaper to do the quickstrut (at least when i last did it)

I usually just don't put everything back. Saves time ... Few extra bolts never hurtHi have we met? I do the same with wear components. Just so I don't have to do the job twice

NahDid you start fixing stuff as a sailor?afaf
Less weight = go fasterI usually just don't put everything back. Saves time ... Few extra bolts never hurt
Tires are a bit more aggressive than the truck is used to. Still a quiet ride
I've owned this truck since 2020, 3rd set of tires installed. They all dry out and crack before the tread is low. View attachment 268602View attachment 268603
