What have you done to your car today?

Put the RPF1s with sticky tires back on the Scoob. Haven't driven this car since November, been sorting out a misfire issue. With 189K was hoping it wasn't a compression thing. Finally got it back from the shop, turns out it was a TGV leak. Had them fix that, as well as replace the engine harness, battery cables, and new grounding kit. Totally forgot how much fun this car is.

Reassembly begins. I am shockingly slow at this. Since this pic (last week?) I replaced a coolant line (I was not prepared for how much more coolant was available to pour all over the place) and torqued the oil fittings to the new heat exchanger.

Not doing the headlights - either need to pull them apart (ala old boxster LED conversion) or spend about $1,500.
would also need to take the nose off again.
Need those NJ illegal license plate darkeners.


Left overs - i'm fairly sure the two trim bolts were from the top of the grill - maybe not reused.
The other two didn't do anything! they were just in a u-nut.

Santa Fe Steering rack update:

After the local shop quoted me $2300, I decided to get a second opinion from the Hyundai dealer. While that sounds counterintuitive it was actually the local shop manager that suggested it. The downside was I had to wait 5 weeks for an appointment.

Turns out it was the sway-bar links making the clunking noise as they wear out. That also only cost me $675! Winning.

Yeah well…f*cking Murphys law strikes again!

Had the car back about 6 hours drove all over the place for various errands. Got home had dinner and had to run back out. Middle of 206 near my house all the dash lights flash on and off and the car loses all power and shuts down! Barely made it into Wawa parking lot before I had to coast in a spot with the car off. Dashboard lights flashing. Would not restart.

Called my son tried a jump start. Car started right back up until I took off the jumper cables. Then it did the flashing thing and shut off. All signs point to bad alternator.

Waited 3.5 hours for my roadside assistance tow truck to take it 2 miles down the road to local repair shop. Guy shows up with no jump box or cables. Used the shift release slot to get it positioned for the flatbed.

Alternator. Battery. And since it was original and already taken apart changed the serpentine belt too. 🤦🏻‍♂️

That evaporated any savings from not having to replace the steering rack. Such is life.

Too late now, but I recently did the sway bar links on my Suburban in less than an hour. Parts were $20 on Amazon. I on the other hand was too lazy to plug a tire so I dropped it off at Mavis around the corner yesterday. Figured I'd have the tires rotated since it's free. $1325 later and here we are.
 
uhhhh seems like some context would help here.
Two new Michelins. One tpms that I knew needed to be replaced and new rear shocks, one of which I knew was leaking. I was tempted to just retrieve the truck and plug the tire and go trade it in. Every time I do something like this I feel like I should drive it a few more months to get my money’s worth but then it happens again…..

i mean with car payment where they are it wont take more than 2 months to break even on that .


Yeah. I thought we were getting the worst shop ripoff story ever.

I just dont have the tools, skill or time for these kinds of repairs any more. I know the parts werent that expensive but it is what it is these days.

glad they didnt charge you $1325 to plug a tire and rotate them!

Good to see the T4R gets the garage lol.
 
Too late now, but does anyone have experience with Blackhawk tires? That's what Mavis initially recommended. His sales pitch wasn't very convincing other than they were cheap so I stuck with what's always worked.

there is a red, fully loaded, yukon XL Denali at ciocca Flemington. it is a 2024 so they are ready to deal....

Don't need anything this large anymore. However, since I own it I hate the idea of giving it up. It's paid for and only has 135k miles. You'd laugh at my recent car search history. It's like the customers who used to come into the shop saying they looked at the Specialized website and can't decide between an Epic and a Demo 8.
