What have you done to your car today?

I have a quickjack which is exactly as you describe
I have been on the verge of pulling the trigger on one of those for years after realizing my 8ft garage ceiling is not enough for a proper lift. Do you use it with the truck or just cars? I tend not to use things at the edge of their 'certified' capacity...

I use it for everything. I bought the 7k lb model which is plenty of capacity for anything I intend to buy(should even lift a 3/4 ton truck tbh).

That said they have a video of the original(I think 5k lb) lifting (I think) 15klbs

At least a month late, but finally got the summer wheels on the MINI after picking it up from the inspection shop. These tires are pretty much done, so I'll be tire shopping soon. Unfortunately, not many options for 205/50-16 these days.

Given the weather I'll clean it up a bit when I get to the show field at Carlisle tomorrow.

Had a good one today.
2023 Q5 oil leak. 16k
Has had cam cover, lower oil pan and front timing cover replaced.
I got the car after all this was done and was asked if it good to go. I said no way still leaking.
First time seeing this . Oil leaking out of the block at a threaded motor mount hole. 20250515_125853.jpg20250515_130151.jpg
Getting another engine. As I found out it had one replaced at 200 miles when a conecting rod bearing went bad.

Keeps that bacon coming in.

F-ing motors theses days. My 2018 2.5 Outback had the motor pulled and resealed twice (justified the $$ for the extended warranty). Just had a leak fixed on my 2021 Ascent with 34k on it, and I’m sure it’ll get done again before the 10/100 extended warranty is up.

did the guy doing the previous engine replacement full send the wrong bolt too far into the hole? not sure how else that happens.

Pretty happy with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s we have on my son's GTI. Have a nice looking tread pattern as a bonus. 😎

P.S. Looks like there is a $160 rebate if you buy 4 from Firestone.

At least you guys have some QC in place. When I picked up my car last Friday after the reseal, the moment I started it I could tell there was an exhaust leak. I had to leave it over the weekend again and wasted 2 hours on Friday afternoon.
That's a typical flat rate tech thinking about his next job instead of focusing on what he's doing.
I drive every car I work on. including simple oil changes.
I guarantee he never even drove it

Seems common among Porsche aficionados, the biggest issue with it would be the solid deck doesn't allow you access to the bottom of the car which in my opinion is the precise reason why you would want a lift...the older version appears to give you a little more access but I'd rather have two separate scissors/platforms, one on each side of the car, for maximum access. @UtahJoe what model is yours? I will have to get back to my Eclipse at some point...
I have a bendpack md6xp

Lot of things to consider which made me choose this one.....
1. height...I have a steel building garage so height isnt an issue, so I wanted a lift that would go up high enough that I could avoid laying on the ground....this one gives me 4+ feet, so i can sit on a stool under the car and work.

2. mobility....I bought it specifically to restore my mustang.....I put the car on it and it spent probably 2 years on it while i tore every piece of the car off, then back on.....but once I was done, I didnt think I would use it enough to justify having squeeze inside of a side post lift and have to always be opening my doors into it....so with this lift I can slide it around my garage floor and just drive over it (with a couple 2x12s along side)....or just slide it to the side somewhere.

3. the middle of the car is partially blocked, that is true....you can get inside the scissor and the center of it is open. I found that this was almost never an issue....with the exception of putting the transmission into my mustang....I thought about putting the trans on the lift and then into the car...but I found it was just easier to lower the car down onto 4 tire ramps, then slide the lift back and install the trans with a trans jack. But there isnt usually alot of stuff in the middle of the car that you are working on

4. in hindsight....I might have gone with a sidepost lift set up. This lift works great, mustang, my focus and my outback....GOD does it make doing things like brakes and that subframe swap 50,000 times less annoying. oil changes/snow tire swaps....just not worth the time...I still use ramps/jack....its just quicker. However, I dont LOVE putting my frontier on it....im REALLY careful with the lift, so I take alot of time making sure everything is balanced properly....when I put the truck on there and shake it....I dont love it.

5. cost....this WAS $2065 shipped when I bought it 2018....now im seeing its $3000-3500

I've been in love with that thing for years, would work with the Eclipse but definitely not with the Jeep given the 8ft clearance in the garage. Most definitely never goin to happen for me.

iv honestly thought about just pouring a slab next to my garage solely to install one, but then we are not planning to be in this house long term (schools here suck for the kid) soo gonna try and hold off till we are in a more long term location.

I also have the MD6xp. Actually, I have two. First one I bought in 2006 when I was doing a lot of work on new MINIs at my ex's garage. Luckily, back then it was about $1500. A few years later a car forum member in MD was moving and was selling his older and well used lift for $1000. I managed to get it home with my minivan.

Six years ago or so, another forum member in CT was selling his Max Jack for a really good price. While I don't have a place to set it up yet, the price was too good to let pass (even better now), so I had to buy it.

A few years ago my ex was upgrading her Quick Jack to a newer version, so I added that to the collection...

Did I use any of them when I swapped the tires on the MINI? no... the regular floor jack was faster...

When I swapped the wheels, I noticed one of the concentric rings was missing. Huh... but I was able to install the wheel without and after a test drive it seemed fine, so I figured I'd look for one at Carlisle. All the while thinking, "I know I've seen it somewhere but it didn't register what it was..."

Then as I was packing to leave this morning, I found it...

So before I left I disturbed the late sleepers in my neighborhood with the impact gun as I pulled the wheel off to get it on.

Made it to the show field.

Parked with my Spitfire friends.

Been having some issues with the passenger side, front speaker the past month or two. It was cutting out and then just died altogether. About a year ago I installed a powered sub and had to splice into some wires to feed it.

My initial thought was the problem was simple, I did a crap job of soldering and it was my wiring that had gone bad. So I pulled apart the dash to get at the wiring and was surprised to see that there was no issue with that. Wasted about an hour during the week to get that done.

Then today, I decided to pull the door panel and check the speaker itself. Turns out the problem was the most simple one, the harness was not clipped into the speaker. Took me a grand total of five minutes to pull the door panel and fix it. Wish I had started here first!

Finally pulled the intake from my 360. My buddy stopped by to help me lift it out - the engine is low and forward and the car is wide. It's really hard to get any leverage.

I think I'm going to get a top side creeper before I continue. Stretching way in there to work on it gets old fast.
