What have you done to your bike today?

I am considering a rear rack for my Moonlander, which is no easy task I'm finding out. Last year I researched a front rack for this bike and I decided on the Old Man Mountain new model "Serpa Fat Bike Rack". I ordered it through my LBS, even giving them the part and model number I wanted. They got me a Pioneer front rack instead. Duh. I took it and was able to install it just fine, with some modifications. Now researching a rear rack is a nightmare. Old Man Mountain makes a nice rack, but so many choices I had to email them. They replied they could do the rack I want and it would work if they send me the special offset brackets instead of the standard brackets. Good thing I wrote them and just didn't order. Second problem, they want $195 + $20 shipping. Modern Bike wants $164. free shipping. My LBS wants $134 + no shipping. Man, they're all over the place! Plus no one else knows I want the offset brackets. Damn. Old Man Mountain did tell me to "mock it up and see what I think will work". This is horrible, ya mean I can't just order a rack and have it fit? You got it, that's the answer! Here is what Surly actually posts about fitting their racks. "while it is possible to make many racks work, all require some sort of modification. What kinds of modifications, you ask? Google "front racks on Moonlander/Pugsleys" and see what turns up. Dat's not much help! So I removed my front rack today and "mocked it up" to see how it fit the rear as OMM suggested. Wow, the front rack it works great on the rear. Like they all say "all require some modification". I just thought since OMM alone make 21 different model racks, you'd just order the right one and it would fit. I like my re-fit so much I think I'll just leave it as is for a while. Maybe I only need a rear rack after all. Ha!

I can help if you need any custom parts or welding done.

On Saturday before the Gran Fondo, I cleaned my drivetrain thoroughly. I do not have an ultrasonic cleaner, but did quite well using Simple Green cleaner with a chain cleaner and a nice assortment of brushes. I took off the old 23 mm tires and installed 2 new 25mm Vittoria Rubino Pro Tech tires.

The beginnings of non-ghetto tubeless.

So no more tire / rim independent rotation?

I don't think so....Rear failed about 2 weeks ago. That spinning shredded the edges of the split tube before I managed to halt it. Finally started blowing a slow stream of air. Saw these for a decent price, and decided to snag a set before they sold out.

Didn't actually weigh for comparison, but feels like I may have dropped 1/3rd of the weight.

Fingers crossed....

Mulefut rims. Using the same origin 8 UL devist8ers I already had for now. Figured I'd continue to run them until they were shot or didn't provide enough grip for winter conditions. So far they have held up ok with tubeless use.

Where's the "after" photo?

Must...Have...Fatbike porn.🙄
