What have you done to your bike today?

After 31/31 the ole girl needed some love. Took it all apart, greased and freshened it up all around. New Brake Cables, New Brake Pads, New Chainrings, New Cassette, New Chain, New BB Bearings and finally installed the Zipp 404s I bought at the end of 2019.

Question for the group. Is it ok to replace a 70mm stem with 90mm on a mountain bike or am I asking for trouble?
It wasn’t so long ago 90 was the norm. Yes, bike geometry has changed in recent years and the trend is to go wide on the bars and short on the stem…but that doesn’t work for everyone. Will you die? I expect not. Will you be more comfortable on the bike? Maybe. Only you can strike the balance between riding comfort and handling. Go for it, but give it a few rides before you decide if it’s right for you. Good luck and more importantly, have fun.

Riding this evening, I came around a tight bend, actuated the dropper, and *SNAP*. The lever was flopping in the breeze.

The cable head literally popped off the cable--no fraying--flush with the casting.

After fiddling with it for a few seconds, pulled the post out, extended it, and finished riding high 😎

At home, it was more than a little irritating to replace, since I thought I dropped the ferrule in the frame (not on the housing, nor the post), flipped it upside down/shaking, and watched a bunch of sand/dust fall out. Looked over two feet to the right, and saw the ferrule on the floor. Reattached everything, started threading it in...and the post was super hard to get in. All the sand/dust had coated the grease in the seat tube, and made it too tight to slide in, so I had to clean out my seat tube, too. Yay.

Spent an hour fighting with the derailleur (replacement is on order) to get it to shift right on the Siskiu. Swapped the brakesets (they are brand new), pedals, and seat from the Schwinn. Bled the brakes on both bikes. Spent a considerable amount of time tuning/tweaking the Siskiu. Ordered parts to rebuild the forks (2 years old and appears to have been never serviced) since replacing the forks would have been a pita since the forks are drop out, and the rear is thru +boost so a new wheelset would be needed to keep things matching plus the budget just wasn't there. After finding out the previous owner over tightened everything on the bike (had to replace the rear thru-axle since it was overtightened and stripped) I retorqued the entire bike to spec.

Is the RD trash or could it just be a bent hanger?

Tell me you ride Hartshorne/Allaire without telling me you ride there.

The RD looks like it got hung up on something in the past. It looks straight but it's not. More like it got flexed at one time, and was straightened out. The hanger itself is nice and flat. Not a biggie since I am using reward points.
