Well I did it...

a.s.

Mr. Chainring
Just registered for the Bearscat 50. Haven't raced a MTB in almost 8 years but I'm super stoked for this race. Been meaning to try the Bearscat for a few years but other things always came up. This year I'm committed to finish the 50!

...now where the heck is my indoor trainer?😀

Didn't know reg is open....I think I want to do it but will need start training. This race is no joke:hmmm:

Do it. C'mon, do it.

Congrats, this is a good one. The first year I did this I had to bail not because of my legs, but because of my upper body completely giving out on me. I was able to finish last year, which was awesome. So beware of riding long miles and forgetting about your rock fitness!

Maybe you should make a training thread so we can all read along? Plus, it will motivate you to keep pushing knowing we are all watching 😉

I signed up last week , never raced anything on 2 wheels without a motor, I'm a bit concerned . I will ride the fatty , should be fun !

I like that idea. Okay here goes.

Day 1 (today) - 30 minutes on the recumbent bike with ten 30-second intervals at what I thought was a moderately high level. Had a blue cheese and smoked bacon burger (medium of course) as my post recovery meal. Re-hydrated with a Brooklyn Ale.

I'm definitely in for a whole world of hurt.😱

I finished first one and felt good. I quit on my second after 1st lap because I was out of shape. Now I should sign up and get in shape🙂

Just starting the second lap has been the biggest challenge for me the last two years. Once I started, I wasn't going to quit. I will never be one of the fast guys so avoiding the super fast start that seems so silly for the majority of folks is a good plan. The first rock bridge crossing is usually a total bottleneck for everyone but the first 10 guys anyway. Get in with a few folks that you know can hang with to add some conversation and even laughs as you flirt with mental a mental breakdown.

Good luck. Drink a lot of water and I will freely give up my only secret: I eat a can of sardines and a whole avacado at the 1/2 way point.

This is good. I have issues with cramping. I did a century in 2004 and had to stop for 15 minutes around mile 70 because of severe cramping. Those last 30 miles were terrible. My longest off-road distance has only been about 30 miles and that too was brutal at the end.

I have some serious training to do.:hmmm:

Jdog I got a little of my breakfast back with the thought of sardines halfway through a race.

I finally finished that race 2 years ago after 2 failed attempts geared I managed pathetically SS rigid and swore that never again. I am still sticking to that until well that memory is forgotten. It is an awesome race and a total mind F***!

Each year I flirt a little with the thought of pushing myself through this on the rigid SS, but so far I haven't worked up the gumption.
