Wawayanda State Park Conditions

Picked up a second hand Framed, couldn't see the sense behind spending a ton of scratch to find out I really don't like it. Now I'm glad I went the cheaper way, I can honestly say Im pretty sure I don't like them. I'll give it another couple of chances this weekend just to be sure though.
Tires and wheels make all the difference in fat bikes. Be sure to try a few variations berfore canning. Biggest mistake first timers determined its not for them because of those heavy wheels and Shity tires which usually come on low end bikes.

Please let us know if there has been sled activity since the last snow

I was there today (Friday) and there has been sled activity on:
Iron Mountain trail and Old Waywayonda road and William Hoefurlin trail, Laurel Trail by the Furnace, Doublepond trail from the Furnace to the lake, and Pumphouse trail. NO ACTIVITY on Wingdam trail or Sitting Bear.

I don't know about the trails off Cherry Ridge Rd, but I think Cherry Ridge would have sled activity right on out to Laurel and Pumphouse, because those trails inside the park have it, so it must go all the way through and around.
I only did about 8 miles in the park today.

Rode today Monday 3/9 at 3:30 and 47° temp and the trails are POO!!!
After 2 miles and eight fall overs, I had to give up. It was kinda fun though. Outta control. You'd start side sliding and get ready for the fall, and then you'd straighten out and keep going and say "what the Hell was that!".
This is with my studded Dillinger 5's too. I even lowered the psi and it rode the same. It was like, just pedal and see what happens.
The trails were just falling apart to slush.

I,m not ready to give up on the season just yet! Temps are supposed to drop Wednesday night and so considering a ride Thursday morning. It should be below freezing. So if anyone else wants to come...say 8:30 at the boat launch.

Here's the ride today, Saturday March 21, with 4 inches fresh snow, but I was hitting ruts from previous traffic.
It looks like a drunkard was riding! Didn't have to put my feet down, but I was outta control! Fun!

Sweet ride today with Diesel and Trailhead. Started at Boathouse, rode across the lake to catch Sitting Bear to South End Trail to Timber to Cherry Ridge to Lookout Trail to Fishermans to Old Coal to Twin Bridges to Red Dot to Laurel Pond and back onto the lake out and around the furthest island before wrapping up at 12 miles. Fishermans was tough in a few spots where snow drifts had collected, but I'd say the loop was 95% rideable. The lake would be fine on any MTB (though watch for icy patches). The singletrack however - other than maybe Sitting Bear - absolutely required fatties. I had to lower my pressure several times to get it just right. Tomorrow's supposed to stay cold, so if you have the day off, hit it!

All depends.....we got about an inch of snow last night and this morning at 8 AM I walked Doublepond to the furnace and out to the main road. The trails are mostly ice now under that 1 inch. I would ride if I hadn't taken my studded tires off already. W Hoefernon was ice too. Just to hike I was going for the sidelines walking in the snow as much as I could. I bet Wingdam, Laurel, Sitting bear have a hard ice pack, just like the short "road" from the lake dam down to the furnace does. What I saw this morning I would ride, only with studs.

I rode the Double Pond and Red Dot trails today and worked my ass off. If you ride in the foot prints it's like a bucking bronco. If you drift off to the side, you sink into the snow. A lot of the trails were very ride able though so I still had a great time. Also, if you fall over you're in snow deep enough that it's hard to get up. I went up and rode the beach just to take a break from the hard work on the trails. There was a lot ice, but I was able to ride it very carefully.

@Kaleidopete - maybe you can add your input to the trail conditions app we made?
That might work, I just didn't feel qualified enough, being a newbie. And what others CAN ride, I CAN'T. Also, there are so many trails in Wawa, but I'll give it a shot. Like today, some trails were great, some too deep snow (for me). Some trails a lot of ice. I'll give the trails app a try.

Good for you kaleidopete and thanks for the pictures and feedback. Conditions are mostly good if you have a fat bike and studs but I think this is probably the last weekend for the fatties at wawayanda as the spring thaw will be back soon.

Good riding trails today too. It was 15° overnight and still only 23° at 9:30 this morning.
I met up with the FOOL'S ROGAINE crowd this morning as they were setting up for their event in the park. I asked them why no bicycles were allowed this year. I was told because the trail conditions are so poor they couldn't have them this year. Snow, ice, muddy thaw. And here I'm giving the trails report as GOOD! Oh well. ps. Wingdam trail is nicely packed down, but Little Bear trail has only had foot traffic and is a lot deeper snow and NOT packed. I could still walk the trail on the crusty top, but on bike I think you'll break through.

We got out early while it was still in the teens, low 20s and was able to ride a lot on the single track with snow cover. Main trails were sheets of ice. By 1pm it was getting soft. This ride was the swan song for what has been a spectacular snow riding season. Forecast shows a warming trend so I don't plan on any more rides here till May or June.
