nice! whats dem rims? carpet fibres?

im happy to report my dt wheels suffered serious abuse the last 2 weeks, and theyre as true as when i left
i dented a rotor and bent a spoke with an errant rock, took a digger at about 18mph and smashed a spoke against a rock and bent that too.
the son hub kicked ass until i slashed the wire to my sinewave on something and went in and out on charging
k-lite light is incredible too

though there was more than one instance where i did wish i got the freehub upgrade @jimvreeland

i recommend getting as big of a cache battery as you can tolerate, for sections where youre crawling along <10mph the charge you get is minimal. hike a bike and steep climbing youre just gonna be on battery power

The wheels are solid. Thank you @jimvreeland ! I did notice quite a bit of drag but it's the price to pay. I did CT with a lighter bike than last week and was 1.3 mph slower. I forgot about the dynamo hub I spent the whole ride wondering what the heck was going on that I couldn't get up the avg. mph 🙂 I was a bit flat today too...

Training & preparation progressing but still need to install the k-lite system and figure out storage (what to take, what goes where). Also, I need to start doing some race planning and putting waypoints w/ key info into my GPS. Need to go bed now but I'll post an update soon.

the drag seems monumental in your hand but i cant notice anything on the bike

protip: if you got the switch, dont mount it where i did, put it somewhere you cant accidentally hit the switch, like the side of your stem. more than once i flew down hills hoping to get a good charge, then i stop somewhere later and look at my bike and see the light on, that got me pretty pissed at least 3x

Do people carry extra tires on these deals or just 1,000 tubes?

Lauf was just featured on the Mountain Bike Radio podcast, sounds pretty ideal for this. Good luck man!

some do, but imo anything more than 2 tubes is excessive, even for TD

tire choice looks great @Pampa

Yep, I'm carrying 2 tubes and several tire boots, patches and plugs. Plus a couple of oz of stans.

I really like these tires. They roll great of course, have all around puncture protection ( for what is worth 🙂) and lowering the pressure on the back I can get pretty decent traction even in some light mud, thanks wide rims too (32mm inner width).

Probably my favorite thing I got for this trip, although I hope I don't have to use it 🙂

Thank you for the tip. That would suck big time!! Don't have many options though since I have the reactor which is mounted as a stem cap.

@jimvreeland built me a kickass wheelset. The rims are Light bicycle, wide and sturdy but still 460 gr. Day and night vs my previous wheelset.

What's that freehub upgrade you mention! Too late for anything but I'm curious.

Thanks for the tip on the battery too. I switched from a 13,000 to a 20,100 (+100 gr approximately). Better form factor too.

that pump is bonkers!

should be fine with the switch there, near another pair of levers i was constantly using wasnt a great idea lol

freehub upgrade being more points of engagement, probably not something that will matter on TD but on techy stuff it wouldve come in handy

Ah yes, I have that upgrade on the 240 on my ss. I forgot to get it for this wheelset and was planning to move it over but won't have time. As you say not important if you're not riding tech stuff.

How do you wash your shorts? Do you visit a laundry mat of beat them over a rock?
I'd imagine crotch rot can be serious, don't forget to wash your ass too.

I'm not planning to 🙂 I got a pair of merino shorts with a thin chamois that dry incredibly fast and don't smell. As a test I used the clothes I'm taking for two weeks (6 rides) and didn't wash them. The only thing that got smelly was the jersey. Everything else is merino.

Yep, I heard last year it rained a lot and some people got fungus or something from the wet chamois and had to quit. I'm taking baby wipes.
