Trail Work

Volunteers,

Tis the season to get out and ride bikes, and build trails in your spare time. I am sure we all have had a long winter and are ready to get out and ride. Please keep it in mind that us bikers are responsible for building and maintaining our trails. So please think about how much time you can dedicate to help maintain Ringwood. We had 760 hours donated last year to Ringwood by 70 different volunteers. Great job.... We would love to build on this effort with more hours by more people. So please help us, yourselves and come out when you can..

This email is a day or two late, but tonight Thursday April 10th marks our first Dirty Thursday. Our current schedule is,

Thursday 4/10 4pm Lot A Skylands Reroute near Pipeline
Thursday 4/17 4pm Lot A Skylands Reroute near Pipeline
Saturday 4/19 9am Lot A Skylands Reroute near Pipeline

We also need you to fill out a new waiver, for Ringwood State Park. Also consider joining JORBA.org if you already haven't. Memberships start as low as $25, http://www.jorba.org/amember4/signup/index/c/

Hope to see you all out on the Trails

Just in case you have not seen this,

Last year Ringwood State Park officials had decided that three illegally built jumps that landed on existing trails, were dangerous and had to be removed. I am very sad to report that two of these jumps have been rebuilt and the park has called in the Park Police to investigate the situation. The park plans to handle illegal trail building like vandalism of natural resources.

Jorba has worked very hard to get permission to build some really cool trails in Ringwood State Park that previously did not allow any new trails. We have gotten permission to build a legal route between Ramapo State Forest and RSP, that previously was hiking only. We have developed a relationship of trust with land management that allows us to work directly with them, even when Jorba insurance is in limbo.

It is a sad day when selfish riders build illegal trails and risk access for all mountain bikers. ALL builders need to get permission from the park and work out the details. There are great examples of cool trails with jumps being built around the country with permission from the land manger. Jorba is not looking to ruin anyone’s day, but we are not in a position to bail anyone out either.

We ask that this activity stop immediately! We hope that we will have the support of the mountain bike community in helping to protect our trails and access to our trails.

Spring is finally here! Lets get out, build trails (with permission from the park) and ride!

I'd be glad to destroy them to oblivion if need be. The retard who is responsible for this has no idea how to build in the first place.......

Dirty Thursday is on for this afternoon. Meet at Lot A by 4:00 or meet at the worksite: Skylands Trail.

Oh, Meeting at Lot A, and working on Skylands trail near pipeline. Thought that might be helpful....

We have made good progress on the Skylands re-route. It is open for business, but please take extreme caution while riding, as every week someone has been vandalizing the rock work.

Just a reminder to all, that altering a trail for personal reasons is selfish and not a good idea. Please support responsible mountain bike access by getting involved in legal trail work and not destroying it.

:)

Saturday, 26th, 9 am Lot A

Volunteers,

The Dirty Thursday crew got the new section complete. The only thing left to do is to fix the vandalism that occurred earlier this week. So we will be walking in from lot A and resetting all the rocks that were overturned. Once complete we will be walking the Skylands trail to the Ringwood Ramapo fixing anything we see on our way to the top of Warm Puppy. Then if we have time we will start pin flagging and working on the next section of the White trail reroute. See you on Saturday.

James

Last section of the reroute is done. All the rock work was redone after our vandal pulled it all apart.
The new stone over the drainage ditch was put in place. Enjoy.
Next we will be working from Lot C on the White trail reroute starting on top by Warm Puppy.

Looks great, thank you all for your hard work. I have not been able to get out to help with trail work yet this year due to injury:cry:, but hope to join you later this year.

Was out there today and must say great work guys and girls! But I did notice that somebody once again messed up I believe your rock crossing over that you just fixed.

Next Trail work day is May 10 Saturday. We will be starting a new section, and would love to get a few extra hands out there.

Meet at Ryerson School at 9:00 am.

Great stuff! thanks for the hard work. Do you get to new section by going into warm puppy or off whites road?

We plan to work again tomorrow Saturday May 24. Any volunteers welcome to join. The more that come out, the sooner the new section will be up and riding.

May 24, meet at Lot C by 9:00 am. If there is someone manning the toll booth, tell them you are there to do Trail Maintenance. We plan to work 3-4 hours, but volunteers are free to leave early. Tools will be provided. Heavy or steady rain cancels.

Thanks Manny, Dino, Chris and Tom for helping out with trail building today. The new section of reroute is almost half done! You volunteers kick a$$!

We will be building each Thursday. Meet at Lot C by 4 pm or meet at work site. Please rsvp so we know how many tools to bring in.
:)
