Trail Maintenance Dates - Fall 2009

i didnt know you guys were doing TM (i guess i dont read enough of the forum) but i came down to 6 mile after the cross race. and got to the section you guys worked on just after you left. You all did a GREAT job, thanks a ton!

Some photos from last Sunday:

Jdog does his duty as Charon. What a trooper. 😀 We all had dry feet for the work day because of his sacrifice. On the way back, it was each man and woman for themselves! This was Dnaps 1st trail day, what a start!

Digging in the dirt. Tyler is creating a water nick so water flows to the stream instead of laying on the trail.

Breaking up some earth before compacting it into the trail thread. This helps shed water off the trail. Good stuff!

New dry trail where there used to be mud! Are we good or what! 😀

The crew grooming some new trail. Many hands make light work.

J & J,

do you have any specific plans for December 6th TM? What is a side this time?

We have a date.

I have no clue. Ask the other J.

Now taking suggestions on sections that need help.

Can we build a new "highway" over that swampy area before the new bridge?

PS. reallocate wood from the yellow trail or raise the thread... either way

you mean the cyclocross section of six mile?

yes, I won't miss this section 🙂

Then can we puts some gravel in the muddy spot on the fireroad connected Jaques Ln with the red trail? I can donate a couple of bags from HD.

I will second Alex K's suggestions.

In addition, I would like to see the muddy section on the Blue section after the first wood structure (starting from canal rd) and just before the galvanized pipe fixed.

I had a look at this yesterday. I don't think we set the culvert in the right spot when we installed it.

I think that the water is going around it. I will talk to the park guys today about getting us a load of crushed rock for this spot.

Great suggestions, both areas have been on our list.

The mud bog is in need of a boardwalk and that's our plan, but to do this, we need dry conditions to dig holes for supports. This summer was super wet, as you guys all know, so we didn't get an opportunity to install the boardwalk. Hopefully this spring we will have a dry spell so we can schedule this work. This is my primary project and I wont rest until its done! :getsome:

For this upcoming session, we will concentrate on fixing up the bridges in the park, and send out some traveling patrols to fix problem spots. Quite a few of the bridges need grooming and/or repair. I have wood in my truck to repair the log bridge near Middlebush road. I'd really like to see this back in action after Saturdays session.

We will meet at the Middlebush Road House once again, I'll edit the initial thread.

Can we walk to the work areas? I can't ride due to fractured ribs, but I'm coming to help regardless. Thanks 🙂

We should have some stuff to do within walking distance. Glad to hear your coming, sorry to hear about the ribs....

Did this happen during the group ride after the last TM? 🙁

Yup... It happened when I went down at the beginning of the ride. I'm pretty sure I got through the ride on adrenaline. It was after we stopped and I was changing at my car that I all of a sudden felt pain.

I'm just glad I didn't take the rest of you down with me...

Cool! I'll see you on Saturday. No worries about the ribs.... at least it's not race season 🙂
