trail conditions

Don't fight the weather......

I'm taking this ubiquitous snow to be a sign to use this three day weekend to just work on strength and endurance and slog away on the road/hills on the crossbike. Doing it now while MTB condition are sucky/suspect allows me more guilt-free freedom for fun MTB rides when conditions do improve. Hoping for a Plainfield->JockeyHollow->Gladstone out and back ride Saturday and some other such ride on Monday.

I was up at Ringwood today and nearly all the fire roads are packed down by snowmobiles. If you are really jonesing to ride the mountain bike, they should be rideable with big tires. All single track is still buried under 6-12 inches of very light snow, so will not be any good to ride.

I was thinking about mounting the studded and hitting the RW fireroads figuring they would be icy.:hmmm:

The snow is still pretty deep at the Sourlands. If I were you I would wait to make your maiden voyage up there until the conditions are a bit better.

heartshorne

I would like to get a final ride in @heartshorne tomorrow morning before I start my next semester, assuming the trails are ridable; havn't been there in a while lately, but I heard xc skiers ride the trails when they're snow covered. So I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of shape the trials are in over there, before I go, just so I know what I'm getting myself into. thanks

I was there today on snow shoes and saw tire tracks. Someone was brave enough to try. However, I can not tell you how it went for them. I did not cross paths with the biker.

canal path - readable ?

Hi Guys ,
Any Idea if the Canal is readable ( starts in New Brunswick ends at 6 miles ? )

Its definitely readable but I'm not sure if its ride-able. The canal goes a lot further then 6 mile, I think it goes to Alabama.

it would be awesome to ride the entire length of the towpath. when I drove by it in South Bound Brook and took a peek, it looked snowy, slushy, and a tad muddy. but i saw lots of bike tracks and foot prints. 😀
