This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

New Jersey coronavirus cases surge to 4,402 with 62 deaths. Officials announce 736 new cases.

So IIRC yesterday we had like 840 new cases....if im doing the simple math in my head, doesnt that mean that new cases went down by roughly 15%? Im also assuming that new cases are using approx. 12pm as a cut off time.
Can't look at it just over a 24 hour period. The daily increase has gone down before, then doubled the next day.

Only this is a novel virus that our body hasn't seen before. A strong immune response can actually be causing healthy people to get extremely sick with this.
So basically you are saying that anyone who travels farther than their home range will always get extremely ill? This virus is just a slightly different strain of a family of viruses that has been around forever. If the immune system was unable to keep up with new stuff, then the human species would not have lasted this long.

Correct.

Take 1000 people at random from NYC
Take 1000 people at random from Idaho

Which set of people will have a higher rate of infection?

people that aren't sick don't get tested. it isn't random, they are self selecting to be tested.

this is meaningless unless to graph the % growth for each state over at least a 3 week period.

working on it.
why is 25% growth in north carolina different from 25% in NY ?

come on man! you're just flat out making up numbers!

sure - but why not. you are making assumptions without presenting any data.

sure, and i agree, I was saying, im not sure how valid this daily tabulation is.

however, based on that news, I think they should reopen my sons school tomorrow....I mean thats what I would do as governor. 🙂

Would you drink tap water in Mexico?
You have to understand that these people getting severe lung inflammation are not actually getting it from the virus but rather it is a result of the body vigorously attacking the virus. This has been very typical of other zoonotic viruses. They are very “novel” to our body. We have two immune systems, cell mediated and humoral. The humoral system relies on antibodies, but if we don’t have antibodies already made from prior exposure then we must rely on cell mediated immunity. The cells in cell mediated immunity attack the virus and then secrete cell signals that sound the alarms for their buddies to come and fight the infection. The signals are called cytokines, and the result is called cytokine storm. So the virus is the first domino in a long line of dominoes that lead to ARDS(lung inflammation).

still in-line with the 25% of current - meaning double every 4 days.
is the absolute number lower? yes - the day before was 50% of current. didn't they have a low number on the previous day?

2 day period actually.

Like you I will remain skeptical until this trend lasts a week or more. But it's a good trend.

Makes sense. But using that logic the human race should have been gone 1,000 years ago when we tried to fight off illnesses with herbal smoke...

by the way... none of my arts degree friends from college have contacted me about essential oil pyramid schemes recently.

im not really paying attention....For that number to actually mean anything, wouldnt you also need to know exactly how many people were tested on that day?

Not everyone reacts the same, not everyone will die from this.

So they aren't coding patients at morristown no crash cart or anything if you go down you are sadly gone
That's scary. The whole hospital? Or just covid patients?
I sent a text to my wife about this since coding would be something she is pretty familiar with, will let you know what she says.....However, im just going to venture a logical guess....They cant call a code blue and have people running all over the hospital with carts and flying into people rooms without proper protection on...so im going to guess there is some other protocol for the time being....I HIGHLY doubt the hospital is just leaving people dying on floor.

Highest score wins a day with @Norm to test his theory on immunity
I'm at least a 5 on my best day with no allergies, no hangover, rested, biked.

This is all about understanding, I think that's why there are so many arguments about small details.
I did not. I was in Venezuela in the middle of dengue fever and malaria season. I barely drank bottled water in Caracas. 2 days travel into the jungle, the guide cuts raw chicken and tomatoes for the salad with same machete and only washes it if the tourists are looking. Ate picked mussels out of jars in random bars. No problems Back to Caracas, back to no open food, etc. Had t think twice about morning coffee. espresso only, don't know if they heat the milk enough for the marron grande.
you gotta understand.

since nobody asked: is this person on drugs, has not watched the news in 4 months, has mental issues, or a combo platter?
