I believe the USSS counter sniper teams are military veterans with many years of training firing heavy metal. General Barry McCaffrey said that an 800 yard shot is expected in their world.
I have always thought that the second amendment should only apply to weapons that were available on the day amendment was ratified. That was December 15, 1791. You think lawmakers had any idea how much damage modern weapons could do in the hand of some sicko? Soooo out law anything that is not a muzzle loader. Heck, the government should hand out muzzle loaders at birth. Let’s see some sicko try to kill 20 kids in a school with muzzle loaders. I told this to my neighbor and he pulled out the “ what if I have to protect myself from the government “. So stupid, take ten minutes on telegram and watch what’s going on in Ukrainian was with drones. $150 camera drone, a bomb and you have a weapon that can chase your enemy to down halls and around corners. Just a matter of time before the swat teams have them. 5-10 years from now they will be using drone swarms….

Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican, and Rep. Ritchie Torres, a Democrat, proposed the bill in the wake of a gunman attempting Saturday to assassinate Mr. Trump during a Pennsylvania campaign rally.
“Last night’s attempted assassination of former President Trump was a dark moment in our nation’s history. As reports continue to emerge, it’s clear that more protection is needed for all major candidates for president,” the New York congressmen said in a joint statement.
“That’s why we’re planning on introducing bipartisan legislation providing President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump, and presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. with enhanced Secret Service protection. Anything less would be a disservice to our democracy.”
Man, since 2015 there have been 19,000 people killed or wounded in mass shootings in this country...our government does nothing.....One of them is nearly killed..(a billionaire who flies around on his own personal 757 airliner)...goddam, they HOP TO!

I don't know, do you spend your days worried because you're in imminent danger? Are you a target, is someone trying to kill you (other than your significant other)? Who exactly do you need protection from that you feel like you're left to fend for yourself?
I think we have seen enough evidence now that school kids are a legit target. 35 school shootings already in 2024....My kids school is the most secure building I need to enter in my personal life. Do I spend my days thinking or worrying about it? No, not really...we seem to have avoided this trend....most likely because its more complicated to walk into a store and buy an assault rifle/semi auto pistol and ammo then say PA.

I'm just challenging this notion that this bill is driven by a threat made to the elite vs. protection for candidates running for office and a fundamental protection of our democratic process. I mean, if we create conditions that allow candidates to be eliminated (an extreme example), we're no better than Venezuela, North Korea, or any of what used to be the former Eastern Block. This is one of the reason why people come to this country.

The secret service has ~8000 employees, ~$4billion budget.....commandeers any and all local law enforcement that it see fits, has the most fancy toys...planes, trains, automobiles imaginable. On top of the fact that Trump is one of the richest men in this country.....I dont want to hear the woe is me stories....Especially when it seems pretty obvious that this was a systemic failure...not one caused by lack of resources....For god sakes, people had instagram videos of the shooter posted before he even fired....Thats not a lack of resources issue.
