They are already protected by the Secret Service. This is just throwing money at the issue because somebody made a mistake and didn't secure an area in plain sight of Trump. Oops. America has proven there really is no way to protect people from one crazy person with a gun. No sense in rehashing the gun debate here. We both know both sides and until the laws are changed shootings will just be a part of life.

Hiring the right people, training people, creating the a system for them function effectively; this is absolutely a resource thing. Not necessarily a more resource thing, but applying the proper resources to the right places. Just because we have the right tools and the correct number of people doesn't mean we're using them correctly. I haven't read this bill, but I would hope that this is addressed in it.
 
I'd also add that there look to be at least three investigations, one internal USSS, one primarily by an independent party, and one Congressional. At a basic level, it seems like those investigations (or at least one of them) should be completed before "fixes" are implemented either in the form of a bill or the resignation of the head of the Secret Service, although I get the optics/political pressure aspect.

So what you're saying is the lawful gun owners in the crowd had their 2nd amendment rights violated by not allowing them to carry at the rally, therefore not being able to take out the shooter?

Did you see the video where a ā€œ liftā€ fell out of said shoe. As a short fat old man, I donā€™t understand need for old tallish white guys to look taller. Is it like women needing big boobs and lips? I wonder if he gets his lifts from the same place Mr white boots? The need for lifts make be go wow.

Fortunately most people are shitty shots, or don't know anything about the weapons in their possession. Oh, and maybe we should outlaw anything other than a horse-drawn carriage as a form of transportation also?

Please, they would have all been hitting the ground or running exactly like they did. Even the cop that allegedly confronted the guy on the roof lost his nerve.

well from what I read, he stuck his head up there (standing on the hands of two other cops), yelled at the kid...the kid then turned and point the gun right at him, then he ducked down below the roof...I mean calling it "lost your nerve" when someone points a rifle at you is a little strong.

People are not killing kids in schools with cars. To be pro gun is to be pro dead kids. If you need an ar15 to hunt deer, you should not be hunting. AR/AKā€™s are for hunting humans. There have been 39 school shooting so far this yearā€¦

Not knowing all the facts and speculating a little:
  1. There's a dude on the roof at a rally for a polarizing political figure. Not a little suspicious? Why not draw your weapon and get on-target before giving away your position to the perp?
  2. Takes a little time for a person (untrained) to roll over from the prone position and point a long gun.
  3. There were 3 cops, why not reposition and engage? Call for backup ASAP? Sound the alarm bells ASAP? I mean as soon as someone draws a weapon on a cop, they are an active threat, there's no longer any question.

As the story is being told....the spectators told these cops (3 of them).....two of them crouched down and let the third cop stand on his hands to boost him up (so I can see why he wouldnt have his weapon drawn), the shooter turned up him, he ducked back down, then the shooter immediately fired on trump...which is why (being totally assumed) he missed. So to me...from the moment this guy peaked his head over the roof, I dont think he did anything wrong...But the whole timeline leading up to that moment is a disaster. For minutes there were people telling cops that a guy was up there with a gun....why not take trump off the stage? I mean it will all come out and shit will hit the fan, people will be fired, careers will be ended.
