The Kalmyk's Tinfoil Hat Happy Hour (aka Most Useless Thread on MTBNJ)

There’s gotta be an engineer type on the board that is smarter than this guy. How is he wrong?

there is no such thing as a free energy device?
And yeah, he was right, and Edison was wrong.....at least about power distribution.

Even if there were, we would still pay for it - cause there is a willingness to pay.
It has nothing to do with the cost of energy production. ie the gas prices in summer of 2020 vs 2022.

Tbh- i like the foreshadowing being it so long ago. It was just a joke I actually agree with the statement🙂

Didn’t Tesla pretty much want to give his inventions away whereas Edison was in it for the money and was kind of a dick.
We never even learned about Tesla in school, I literally learned about him when the band Tesla first came out!

Edison was a money making machine. Applied science. And a really good one.

Tesla was working the theoretical side of coils/magnetism/field theory - he formalized it, and tried to commercialize it.

So do you go with the guy born in the US, with an anglo name, or the guy from Scerbia with the good science?
well, when stringing DC power and using the earth as the return "wire" it would be cheaper than running two wires for AC,
except when a person got between the wire and the ground....

Either you are confused about the meaning of the word willingness or I am...

I don't think Tesla just 'thought' about electricity...

Not confused at all. You are not forced to have electricity.

And yeah, he did the work. But it was born out of a deeper understanding, IMHO. I'm sure the big names are the ones that saw the widespread value of long lines.

Is there a Tesla, NJ? NY?

WV - yes. And they aren't sure it was named after him!

I believe you are forced to have a hook up though. It is a tricky thing in NJ. Even if you are off the grid, you have to have it hooked up and pay a minimum monthly fee for "maintenance".

And if you get a solar energy system installed on your home in a place with plenty of sunshine (like FL), you essentially do have a free energy device (after your capital costs are paid back).

Ah, my bad, I did not realize it was comedy hour...

...and then there's that...

...and that. Is solar energy taxed (yet)?

Nonsense. The price of a barrel of oil was $43 in June 2020, $115 in June 2022.

So you are claiming that the price to produce it almost tripled?

The willingness to pay for it tripled.

One has nothing to do with the other.

You are joking, right? Half the cost of production of gasoline is the cost of crude. FYI gasoline is made from crude oil!

Pedantic.

Fallacious
