The Indoor Cyclist's support thread

You have less than 2 workouts a week scheduled on there, what would you expect?

I just picked whatever they recommended. No plan, just day to day? I forget the exact name. I’m on Zwift right now doing the recommended workout so I can’t go back and look.

Even still, what would they recommend anything that would lower my FTP? I don’t understand.

You input how many days/hours you want to ride every week and it recommends from there. I think the plan is trying to keep you as high as it can but with less than 2 workouts a week, you can't expect to keep the fitness you would have if you were riding 4+. You can do the check volume button or create a new plan which would probably add workouts. I have no idea if you're solely on TR at this point or not. If you're doing TrainNow daily then you'll definitely crush that prediction...it's only using the data it has right now if that makes sense.

As you go through the weeks adding more workouts that it doesn't know exist yet it'll raise it. It also will take into account outside rides on top of those prescribed workouts apparently.

I think I found out the problem. I had signed up for trainerroad a couple months ago and added a plan, then I abandoned it shortly after. I did not renew my membership. So they were a couple workouts left from that old plan still in my calendar. When I signed up today, that plane was still on my calendar.

That’s a bug. They should probably clear out old plans, or ask you if you want to.

I went back and added a custom plan to “improve endurance”. And they say I can have a 312 FTP in 4 weeks! LOL. Ok 👌

Not riding the trainer you won't. Get your booty to the gym.

Anyone want to do some climbing on Zwift? Can a group do it in 60 minutes using the rubber band? We'll find out

So I ended my lifelong boycott of indoor riding and picked up a Kickr Snap off of craigslist. Signed up for the free trial of Rouvy, which looks like it will do the job of blunting the boredom of riding a stationary bike. I have a wall-mounted flat screen TV that I want to display the rides on. I tried using display mirroring from my Windows laptop and it works OK, except for some dropouts and disconnects. Wifi signal is good, LG TV is a 2025 model. Video on the laptop screen is good. What's the best way to get the rides up on the big screen?

I'd say that there are 2 options, if you want to spend a bit of coin, then getting a Apple TV will be the best way for that, but barring that, can you run a HDMI cable from the laptop to the TV?.

Based on personal experience and also as someone who is in the IT world professionally I would rank the options you have as follows:

Best option - get an AppleTV and run Rouvy on that connected via HDMI to your TV
Good Option - run from your Phone/iPad and Airplay it to your TV
Meh Option - Connect windows PC/Laptop to TV

I spent many years struggling with Zwift on a Windows laptop and it was always having some kind of issue. about 5 years ago I got myself an AppleTV and connected it to an older non Smart flatscreen TV via HDMI and its pretty much flawless every time. I can turn everything on and be up and running within a minute or less.

To me it just seems the Apple platform in general is much better at supporting Zwift (havent tried Rouvy) but I imagine it would be the same experience from a technology perspective.

Do you need to pay for an Apple TV subscription for this to work?
I dont think so - the ATV subscription gives you access to the streaming content and programs while the apps like Zwift and Rouvy run separate if I am not mistaken. Of course you would need Rouvy subscription if you keep it beyond the trial.

I can try the iphone and ipad. From what I've read, Zwift and Rouvy are very different in how they handle video. Zwift is an animation and renders the display in real time, whereas Rouvy uses actual video for the scenery. You have the option of downloading the video for a route vs. streaming it, which can boost video performance if your internet connection is slow.

Apple makes it very confusing.

There are 2 separate Apple Products.

There is the Apple TV which we are all talking about here, and that is just a box/device that you buy and use, it's just a device, no subscription.
It is this.

Then there is Apple TV+ which is a streaming service, like Netflix, Hulu etc.... and you need a subscription for that, but it has no connection to Rouvy or Zwift etc...
