The Indoor Cyclist's support thread

i tried training peaks virtual yesterday and it was p ugly, my power seemed way higher which was odd, it certainly makes zwift look way more polished

TPV is ugly. It’s still essentially in beta and a graphics/world update is on the list. Power shouldn’t be any different. It’s just pulling that from your trainer. Strange.

Tried TPV today after being off a bike for a few weeks. Better than Rouvy from a graphics and UX perspective but functionally lacking compared to Zwift. Didn't renew Zwift, so will give TPV a few weeks before making a verdict. Being free for now, is not a hard decision.

Day 2 with TPV
I was hoping to have some interesting choices of routes, but nope. Just Minecraft/roblox roads, trees, grass and houses. Was really bored after 10 minutes. Their dashboard isn't terrible and I played around with settings a bit. But 'Godfather' on audiobooks was what got me through it.

Here's the problem with TPV and Rouvy. They try too hard to simulate being outside. I know I'm indoors and it sucks. Make it more like Mario Cart and the time will go by quicker. That's where Zwift does a better job. City roads and Wattopia, it's not real and we know it. It's not like a golf simulator where you are working on a skill and realism is important, you're just pedaling hard, zero skills developed

Give Fullgaz a try. The routes are a mix of mostly member submitted high quality videos with the gps head unit data from the ride which is combined (and massaged ) to enable the video playback speed to match (appropriate) what you are putting out … while simultaneously controlling the trainer resistance. Some routes are duds, but the overwhelming majority are really good. My favorite was a relatively flat’ish group ride along Route 5 PCH in California. It was nice being in a double pace line again for a change.

Try watching road racing footage if you are bored. The scenery and pace keeps it motivating. You can turn your brain off. A 6hr tour lasts 3 or more workout sessions.

I tried a 20 minute ftp test I'm pretty sure I failed lol
Yeah I can’t ever really make it past the “warm up”!section before the 20 minute effort.

For my purposes I prefer the Ramp Test it gives me a decent readout and baseline.

I finally did my first ride on the Zwift Ride.
It's pretty great!
Still need to work on the bar position they seem weird.
Overall its great choice for indoor training. View attachment 247360

I recently replaced my smart trainer with a Zwift bike. So I have one I’d be willing to sell on the cheaper side. LMK if interested.

I am unfortunately considering buying this frame. Getting a little worried about the whole salt on aluminum bike thing since it feels like I can't escape the trainer lately.

What's the review? I'd be just using it as a frame...no virtual shifting or Zwift features at all.

i am not sure how you use the Zwift frame without Zwift exactly? the frame alone currently shows $799 retail, but for $500 more you can buy the whole setup like @Norm and @Glenn Rides After 4 PM CST and be good to go.

I dont have the budget for any of the above, but I have a $150 aluminum beater bike on my older wheel on Magnus smart trainer that serves its purpose. I may consider adding the Zwift controller shifters to it one day but this might be the way to go for you for a more budget friendly option.

I have no idea how this bike would work without the smart features. It doesn’t have Amish shifting. It’s a digital shifter so you need the 1-cog integration and so on.

TLDR; no idea man. Sorry.
Just get the Zwift bike with Kickr core.
Sell current trainer.
Unless you use another platform. Then shoulder shrug

Yeah I just run ERG all the time on TR so I don't really care about not getting that firmware update that will allow Zwift. Haven't been on Zwift in years. More interested in the build quality/fit issues if any. Just not loving pouring sweat onto my real bike at this point.

Already got a direct drive trainer. Gonna throw on a Zwift cog and call it a day.

Or maybe I'll throw on a rear wheel and see if I can ride it around the block. Who knows really.

Since you already have a smart trainer and dont use Zwift, have you considered getting a really cheap bike from Bikes direct? Who cares how junkey it is, pick one up for $299, put a decent saddle on it and you should be good to go.

That is the other option, yeah. Then again I can buy the Zwift frame with my HSA so there's 25% off so it's not even that different price wise.

Bought the wife a used Peleton for Xmas. Only $375 smackers in perfect condition. Gen 2 so it'll get the updates. The absurd used purchase registration fee and new pedals aside it's still a great deal. She uses it every morning before work and so its already paid for itself. She loves it. Recommended for those cycling adjacent spouses and family members.
