The Guitar Player Thread.

OK, here's a couple of fingerings.

Harmonic Minor starting on Ab

Diminished Arpeggio, at least the way I play it. Most guys leave out the first note on the G string when they sweep these but it sounds too much like Yngwie so I sweep them as 5 notes instead of 4.

And the same shape "stacked". That's not the right term but that's what I call it.

And the most popular riff that uses this scale.

went over to guitar center last night.played for a coupla hrs.Lots of nice stuff some very fast some good sound.hard to decide..
Guitar Center is the Dark side, the Walmart of music. Go to Russo in Asbury. Great guys, great gear, not the corporate vibe at all.

Yea Russo is great if ya wanna spend big on a new LesPaul. I have been in there a few times they never askd me if I would like to try anything.
Guitar center had lots of used stuff to chose from. priced so I could be playing not wishing.
The let me try whatever I wanted.,.

Guitar Center does suck, but they're fine if you're looking to get into something more budget friendly. Like Tony. And you just wanna rock out. For a couple hundred dollars you can pick up a really nice Ibanez RG and small amp. The amp in all of my videos is a Marshall MG15DFX. The Talman I bought brand new at Sam Ash for $200ish dollars. You don't need to spend a ton to shred. I've owned very expensive guitars and gear through the years and these days I play with no pedals plugged straight into a $100 amp. It's a lot more about what you do with it than what you do it with.

Having said that, if you're looking to play metal or rock, try to at least get something with 24 frets and EMG pickups. EMG active electronics is the main reason I stopped using pedals. You can get a ton of different sounds just from rolling the tone and volume knobs up/down. Full clean to full shred and everything in between.

If you're interested I have a Roland Mini Cube that I'd sell for like $50.

Not sure why you say they suck..
They hire empoyees and give them a job.
The folks working there seemed to like what they where doing. They got to play instruments. One guy was jamming on the electronic drums. They where awesome. I had not seen them before.. Another guy was jamming on this nice blues amp they had just got in.
I talked to a guy redoing the frets on a acoustic. They all seemed very nice.

I was using a little vox amp there. It was $219 I think. Had lots of options.
I played some LTD stuff. I forget already. a few schecters, Ibanez stuff.
jacksons all under 500.They all had different things I liked about em.
No one seemed to blow me outa the water though , I'm in no hurry.
I'm funny about making decisions like picking out a guitar.
I did like the amp and I should go back and buy it.
I tried a seven string that kinda blew my mind.

Damn it got cold very suddenly today. I know it's winter but my volatile asthma does not like that shit...

Headed down south to Allaire this morning with my buddy Dave and Larry E and rode for two hours in the sandbox. I used to live within riding distance of the trailhead for a few years before I moved to Lambertville 7 years ago. Man time flies. I really miss riding there on the regs. Ran in to @MMuller in the lot. Somehow I have seen Marc more times in the last two weeks than I have in the last 5 years.

Picked up the old wooden box and busted out this jam when I got home. Little bit of playing outside, something I don't really do enough. Home alone with my dawggg Tuck while Megan bar tends.

Extended range guitars are awesome, but you must walk before you can run young grasshopper. Did you try one of these? Under $500. Might be up your alley?

In my experience, I don't think Guitar Center sucks. In general, I always give the small business the first shot. Like Marc says, Russos is great. I've been going there since I first started playing. In fact my parents bought my first saxophone from Russo's when I was in 4th grade. There's a bunch of other independent music store I go to as well.

I have given Guitar Center (in several locations) my business for various things over the years. I have never encountered an employe that wasn't knowledgeable, helpful and personable. Iv'e also never experienced a pushy salesman vibe. The folks Iv'e dealt with played music and were enthusiastic about the instruments and equipment they sold. Guitar Center may be a giant corporate gorilla but It's not exactly Walmart.

Guitar center doesnt suck in my own experience. I bought one of my strat there. Not only that ive got a lot of business with them in my church from instruments like drums, amps and PA systems and they give me great discounts because of my business with them. They even gave me an entry level guitar for free for the business ive had with them. I love sam ash too. My first ibanez was purchased at toms river music which is my favorite music store. The owner was nice to me so I always look for him when im buying stuff there from guitar picks to my home based recording needs. Too bad they closed their business because of the recession. Russo is good too and I always go there everyime my former band have a rehearsal at the lakehouse studio and kill time there. The price are steep but quality guitars.
