I could go on

Please Don't....

This post was targeted at mountain bikers concerned about the damage these vehicles are causing in our parks. It not surprising that Quad and Dirt-bikers on this forum disagree.

Gotta luv this stuff...

Since everyone is throwing their $0.02 in...

This is what I luv about this site...the thread gets of to a good start, someone providing info to the masses regarding a currently illegal use of SP land. Then you get the normal lets poke at the hornets nest type of feed back. Followed by the rhetoric that the trails were made by moto/quads so it is ok. Then show me the damage on trail made by mountain bikes, on and on and on.

I think the main point is that it is currently illegal to ride mot0s/quads in SPs. Second, most if not all (I can think of two exceptions within Allamuchy) moto trails were not made by motos. They are old stagecoach, mining or logging roads. So motos should stay off those trails since they did not make them, right? Think about the old stagecoach drive rolling in his grave now that someone is using his trail, oops road.

And yes I have seen moto/quad use on trail build by mountain bikes (under approval of the NJDEP). If you would like to see let me know we can go for a ride sometime. Also there are trails that have started to revert to single track (who like to ride this stuff anyway) that has seem a recent increase in moto/quad use and is reverting back to double track (albeit quad double track).

Hey if you’re fine with sharing your trail with illegal users that great, but don’t berate those that would like to do something about it. If you don’t like sharing the trail with the illegal users, then call and be diligent and provide descriptions of the riders (what type of moto/quad, helmet color, ect.) if you can find out where they live all the better. The next big hurtle is getting the SP Police to actually do something. No small task.

Just my $0.02.

Last year when I was in MD I ran across two mtn bikers smoking weed, maybe I should have reported them since pot is illeagal.

I'm on this as well and if anybody pulls out a phone on one of my group rides there will be trouble:getsome:

I dont see what the big deal is. If they stay where they belong, and we stay where we belong...all will be well.

Threads....

Threats? What is this a grade school playground?

I honestly thought more of this forum.

Well, since I started this thread I guess I'll have to ...

"Double Dog Dare Ya to Stick Your Tongue on That Frozen Pole".. lol.

Threats? What is this a grade school playground?

Yeah, I don't get that. There's really no place for that here.

Sorry folks, but ATVs are illegal in the parks. Ride at your own risk but don't threaten the people who don't like it.

The threat up North is DP and KVSP being hacked into pieces by mtbrs. Motos passing thru and clearing out trails has been in the equation for decades(NBD), but this new wave of illegal bike trails is getting completely out of hand. Last year i was hrs from having a mtbr taken from the forest in handcuffs, but i held back in hopes of nailing a bigger "fish". I won't make that mistake again. Sorry if i hurt anybodys feelings🙂

I dont see what the big deal is. If they stay where they belong, and we stay where we belong...all will be well.

I twice have written a post for this thread and then hit the back button on the browser to not get involved...because the debate will never die.

But...the problem for the dirtbikes/ATV's is really that they have nowhere legal to ride...so they are gonna explore any trail they can. Many of them have never ridden a MTB through a trail & have no idea that they might rip something up that makes the trail not as fun.
I used to ride dual purpose on/off road bikes & ATV's & at that time there was a movement of responsible riders lobbying & essentially begging the state to create some legal places to ride. We were offering to pay substantial annual licensing fees ($200 or so per rider per year was thrown around), put in time for TM, build trails that were motorized specific in places away from other multi-use trails to not have noise issues with other trail users, etc.

The state said no, no, no, no & no & so many riders who had tried to care & be responsible took on the attitude of 'screw it...they'll never catch me', which is pretty much true. If over the next ten years the state outlawed mountain biking on every trail in the state how many people on here would ride on hiking trails & not give a damn if we damaged them? Lots of us

Internet tough guys.

Why does this site tolerate this nonsense. Not only are these people supporting illegal activity in our parks, but making threats to those who choose to report it. One of these guys after supporting illegal ATV's and making threat's is leading a MTBNJ ride later this month . What a great advocate for the sport and this site!.

I wasn't replying to Brett's last post on Illegal trail building. Brett makes a valid point about illegal trail building and I agree. Although that has nothing to do with the topic.

Ok now i get it. Irony is a big NO. Discussing and advocating illegal ATV use and threatening people who report it is fine.

Jeez man, take it easy. I'll move the junk posts to the garbage heap when I get a minute. I haven't been following this thread to have seen much of this develop so most of it is more or less new to me. Given the amount of traffic the site gets I can't possibly follow everything. I agree with your points. Sorry it took so long to cull the trolls.
