Tariffs...what to make of them.

If we get a new president in three years after tariffs have caused everyone to raise prices, and the new president removed them, will companies then lower their prices back down to pre-tariff pricing?
I’m afraid that once the tariff gets absorbed into the price of the item, as opposed to a surcharge, there will be no going back.

My buddy bought a really cheap cycling kit discounted from Australia last week. Then Fedex handed him a $200 tariff. Ouch.

And the de minimus (<$800) exemption expires Friday.

I bought some parts from Italy that did not amount to the $800 limit for customs to be applied (at least not until 8/29/2025), no tariffs or customs fees but UPS invoiced me $6 for handling customs, not a significant amount for one package but multiplied by the million packages UPS imports every day maybe a significant number, not sure what has changed that would trigger this new fee...as much as politicians obviously have a front and center role in determining our lives, let's not forget greed.

Also... @Patrick why am I seeing this thread? I thought I blocked it months ago.

It will likely depend on the item in question and other market competition factors.

One can see manufacturers dropping prices in order to increase sales or gain market share.

I wonder what all of this has done to eBay sales, since it seems like so many of their listings have gone to overseas vendors. Personally, I haven't looked into listing anything there since they stopped payments to PayPal.
