SURF does not SUCK

My only surf lesson was at Hale'iwa with my now Mrs but I still suck at surfing. She lived there for a year and I visited multiple times. I am sad to this day that she decided to move back to NJ or else I would be living there too probably. We don't travel much but our favorite place ever is Turtle Bay.

The surf does suck and also do I. New foamie is slippery so I’ll try to Reddit comments to roughen it up. Approaching low tide and westerly winds. The break is literally on top of the sandbar. Not much going on. No surfers but one SUP. Didn’t bring the bodyboard but rode the skatepark a bit suckingly.

You can wax foam boards. Make sure you get the right wax rating for the water temp. Colder water = softer wax, warmer water = more dense wax. It's on the label. We have a flounder pounder that's seen a lot of kids ride it, and its been waxed from day 1. Foamies require way less wax than a glassed or epoxy board though.

First time lessons. Caught every wave thrown at her. Loved it! She has already caught more waves than my lifetime haha. I can’t wait to wake her ass up at 6am to surf! Freezing cold water but lasted one hour

Awesome. Spend this summer maximizing her hours in the water to build muscle memory for paddling. It can take weeks/months to transition from getting pushed in to paddling in solo, and then more time as she moves to shorter boards. The younger the better for this magic time of learning.
