Studs Up

I already have one, and am too cheap to by a second. I guess if I break a limb, cheap is dear in the end...

steve, you can always make your own. a box of sheet metal screws, your drill, your screwdriver and some duck tape.

i really wanted to make my own but my time is limited enough w/o trying to do something like this...but i did research the hell outta it.

one thing you want to try to do is use stainless steel screws as they'll hold up a lot better. carbide would be the number one choice but i have no idea where you could get them, or if. anyway, the BEST source for stainless hardware (or anything else that really works that is hard to locate like POR15, good powertools, stilts for spackling...) is shaffer's on rte. 46 in rockaway/dover. it's pretty much right next to manx cycles.

Jake, why not just start the first screw in then call it a day? Just sort of leave it on the workbench and put in a screw or 5 when you feel like it. Sure maybe it takes a month but a little at a time then there ya go.

i've got enough of those projects sitting around to last me well into march at this point since that's normally what i do. or, normally what i do now that i have kids.

in the old days i would have sat down with 200 screws, a 12 pack, a drill, a dremel and four hours of nothing to do put screws into two perfectly good tires.

If and when you decide to get back to those old days, I want to join. Sounds like my kinda party.

Then we will go streaking through the quad to the gymnasium.

ooooo! a stud party! we used to have tube patching parties every few months when i was a messenger in philly. we could do a combo studding/tube patching deal.

i would definitely be down. and i would definitely be up for streaking the quad as well.

I have zero mechanical ability, but I am a pretty good drinker. Count me in, party at Jakes

if jake no-nos the party at his house, once the lake by me is frozen enough that i'm confident enough to take others on it, i could host. i've got a decent enough garage, plenty of inside room, and we'll have a place to test everything out once we're done. but i would be all up for getting drunk and trashing jakes house with an 18v cordless...

I have have a good amount of tubes sitting at home waiting to get patched as well. I will save them just for that. My girlfriend was yelling at me to get rid of them. I stood my ground. :getsome:

PARTY!!! I have dibs on the couch and the first round of mini pool.

alright. we'll work on a date after christmas. i've got five-ten tubes that need patching, and i'll probably try my tubeless conversions that night as well.

Sweet! Maybe we could all screw our bicycles at the end of the night. SCORE!

well, as it turns out, i may give this a shot. my source for nokians tells me that they are on back order and likely won't surface until at least 1/4. and that date could get bumped. i think i'm going to take my current rampages and work on them since they have pretty good knob spacing and look to be good candidates for spiking. the problem is, then i have to get new rampages. 🙁

are people riding studs just for icy/snow conditions or in general on frozen or thawed (muddy) trails in the winter. I never thought it was worth it for studded tires since we just don't get that much snow around here although I might changed my mind since I ride in the AM when trails are almost always frozen in the winter.

Stud Party

I'm in. What do you recommend we use to screw our tires? I want to mkae sure I have the right equipment and hardware.
