Strictly METAL

Went back to the beginning of this thread, found this post. Freaking hilarious and spot on for me. Exactly the same opinion of LOG.

I think that's just the nature of groove metal.

Try something more like Avenged Sevenfold or Five Finger Death Punch (to some extent) to "ease" into it 😛

Personally I've been drifting away from the metalcore stuff lately. Goodbye Shadows Fall and All That Remains, hello DevilDriver, Chimera, and Arch Enemy. Recently discovered Protest the Hero, if you like Between the Buried and Me you might like them.

Wow man Rob Halford must have to drink a cup of oil just to record 1 song like that in the studio these days. I can't believe he's still doing that. But really, Judas Priest should live forever.

Cookie Monster vocals - agree with that.

Apparently people say he sounds insane when the tour starts off and starts fading fast. At his age and the fact he's been screaming like a banshee for the past 40 years, the guy is a talented specimen.

For those not into cookie monster growls, check out Samael's "Rebellion", "Passage" or "Exodus" albums. Harsh vocals but still very tasteful and you can actually understand most of the vocals. Music is steady mid tempo with some groove to it.

Or better yet, my euro/middle eastern influenced death metal album from ten years ago:

Torche Songs for Singles
Doomriders Darkness Come Alive
Swans My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky
The Sword Warp Riders

Anybody into After The Burial? For some reason I missed them. I think they're my new favorite band. A cross between Protest the Hero and Meshuggah. Stuff is sick. I love the 8-string stuff!!

The album is called Rareform. Get the re-recorded version. Apparently they recorded the first one sans 8-strings and used detuned 7's just like when Meshuggah first released Nothing. Meshuggah later re-recorded Nothing with 8's and it sounds an a$$-load better.

Some of the best thrash metal ever comes from right around the corner guys...Overkill from Old Bridge have been releasing quality thrash since 85. Their new "Ironbound" is already a candidate for best of 2010.

Their older albums such as "Under the Influence" and "Years of Decay" are true classics. Those guys never caved and have been carrying the torch many have abandoned...(Metallica anyone??)

I went to one of their shows not long ago in NJ and was absolutely shocked that very few people from the crowd had actually heard of them...what a shame...growing up in the suppressed culture of the middle east those guys made music that was like a sanctuary to the younger rebellious generation. So many good memories!

I believe playing @ the Starland Ballroom in November (shit, that's next month!)

Overkill play Starland everytime they are on the East coast. I can say between Starland, Birch Hill, La'mours and the show they filmed in Asbury, I have probably seen them 20 times. Its like a reunion for my friends everytime they play, we pregame here then head over. Blitz is like 177 years old and has the body of a high school swimmer, and the energy to match.

I will admit that the new stuff is getting a bit boring, but the classics always kill. Always a good show.

I gotta try some of this, at one of my latest "sunday fundays" I played some Electric Funeral and of course that incredible Church of Misery cd, and it went off with rave reviews. A comment from one of my friends was "put on more of that sludge metal".

Good stuff Chris, thanks!

My very first show was Overkill (with galactic cowboys and anakrusis opening) somewhere in NY State around '90-91. Metal and proud.

Two very cool bands!

I've been really digging on 5 Finger Death Punch lately. I saw them with Zombie this summer and they were awesome. I listen to pretty much anything on 89.5 WSOU...the only good thing about my college. 🙄

Playlist, lately:
-Kylesa Spiral Shadow
-Neurosis Enemy of the Sun
-Electric Wizard Black Masses
-Zozobra Harmonic Tremors
