State park night rides

J brings up some good points, here is another point to consider. The parks are concerned with extraction, if you get hurt and call for help they will need to mobilize an effort to find you....more difficult at night. I think all of us who rep parks have posed this question at one time or another. If they open for cyclists, they need to open for everyone, not going to happen with all of these budget cuts.

People ride, they just don't talk about it openly because they don't want to shine a light on the situation. Just ride with a group, be stealthy, and drag your own ass out if you eat it.

Amen!

I know Iv'e mentioned this before but I'm pretty sure night riding is OK at Wissahickon till 10 PM. Not sure if thats changed but it's unlikely you'll get your balls busted.

This souds fun. I have never ridden there so to do it at night would certainly be a challenge...what pace do those who typically attend ride at?

This was my ride. Basically, the pace is determined my who shows up. I don't drop people typically (unless they are really annoying! lol) Of course that also means, If you are faster than me....you goona have to slow down! 😀

Neshaminy, Pennypack and Wissihickon are all legit for night rides. I believe the curfew for Wiss and Pennypack is 10 PM like Capers said.

It's not just liability, but also the "cost of extraction".
There is no such thing as "your on your own", someone will eventually call 911 and then the authorities are mandated to respond.

Be prepared to spend the night and call 911 as soon as the park opens so you don't ruin it for everyone else. Or don't bring your phone(like me) and you won't have a choice

How big/long is Neshaminy? Is it just south of Trenton?

Nesh is small...The outer loop is around 6 miles and there is a bunch of alternate stuff in the middle. It has a nice mix of stuff, some twisty flowy singletrack, logovers, bridges and some rock gardens on the lower trails.
A decent amount of elevation change for the size of it as well with a couple of good long climbs 🙂
If you need more miles, You can just do a couple of loops 😉
It's slightly south of Trenton, more west than south.

neshaminy track

last ride there - ignore the mph, there were sunspots affecting the gps😉
not far over the bridge past trenton, very easy access off rt 1.

Thanks!! Are there mud issues similar to 6MR?

there were some soft spots, but it isn't like 6mr. there is good elevation above the creek and much more rock in the soil. this was a ride 36 hours after rain (i think) 40F out.

would be great tonight - start at midnight, and get double points, and absurd time bonus....

should add that it is west of the trenton-mercer airport on 95, not west of trenton (the city)

Nesh

Hi Pat,
I'm working tomorrow but off Thurs and Friday. I can probably get out. Are we talking a night ride or day light? I'm game for either but night riding is a hoot for sure 🙂
On another note...I need to score a new helmet and mount my new Contour Roam. Anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced XC helmet with good adjustment? ( mine sucks because it moves around too much - no rear tensioner)

Ride

Ok... Im up for either since i do have a light .. Just keep me posted.. Ill be back from my appt around 2pm tomorrow afternoon

Joe

I can't image anywhere but up north would be worth riding tomorrow. We just got too much rain today. 🙁
I believe they got snow up there 🙂
Incidentally, I'm out for tomorrow anywho...my mother was supposed to fly in around 9 am but the flight was cancelled because of weather. She got another flight and is now coming into Philly at 5:00 pm :-/
I can probably swing a friday or Sat ride instead if anyone is interested.
