semi short random story of mad green hovercraft carriers:2.0 ways to midpack training

good to hear. That post was too long to read, but glad you are improving. The title changing business jumped the shark and went back for seconds.

So what? so lets dance!

Glad to hear your off the crutches lou....They are awful devices of torture aren't they?

how does pearl always get dibs on these posts???

He knows people.

So excited for you, Lou! As we were driving back from KVSP Sunday we were talking about how you would have totally been there. We miss your yelling and jokes on the trails for sure.

I actually saw Thaesha a few weeks back but didn't get a chance to tell her of our blossoming friendship. She would be so happy.😀

Cool! I bet that swimming is the probably the best thing you can do. Happy to hear man.

GREAT stuff lou! really, man.

i can completely relate to the feeling of being liberated from the crutches of death (literally, for me). you seem to have kept yourself in slightly better form than i did when i was laid up last year- i was on a steady diet of pain killers, DFH60 and ice cream. i don't recommend mixing the first two unless you're confined to a chair with a remote for several hours. anyways...

listen to the doc and TAKE IT EASY. also, take jay's advice on the flat pedals. when i first got on the bike, it was almost a month before the swelling went down enough and the pain was tolerable enough for me to get into my mtb shoes...forget the road shoes (my foot still doesn't fit into it right). i did exactly what jay said and picked up a pair of flat pedals. i was really, REALLY hopeful that it was going to be a temporary thing so i picked up a set of the the clear poly animals. they were like $10 or so and worked out just fine.

either way, looking forward to your progress!!

so much love doe...

Thanks everybody! sorry I'm not multi quoting 20 posts 😀

You might consider a set of the ergon flat pedals. I have not tried them but Ron c's wife had some on her bike.

Now more than ever, sleep and nutrition is key.

I will look into them... the Ultegra pedals have a decent platform though... sleep and nutrition are high on my list... I'm doing whatever I can to get myself in better (overall) shape than I was in before... the cycling will just come along in it's own time...

So eh....what bike you getting? 😀

NONE! seriously though, I'll probably get a cross bike at some point, but I'm not even thinking mtb until the spring (if at all tbh)...

That post was too long to read, but glad you are improving. The title changing business jumped the shark and went back for seconds.

take it where you can get it doe - future content not guaranteed 😀

BTW dude it took me 30 minutes to come up with the concept of the name and another 30 to arrange a word from all the the active blogs!

Glad to hear your off the crutches lou....They are awful devices of torture aren't they?

just horrendous! I have a new found sympathy for anyone I see on them and for handicapped spaces!... I snapped at car a few weeks back that parked slanted in the handicapped space and I couldn't open my door... *the car had tinted windows so I couldn't see who was inside but they moved to straighten the car out, then a really attractive woman got out and apologized... I felt like an ass (yes, only because she was attractive) 😀

how does pearl always get dibs on these posts???

He paid me!

He knows people.

I miss my homies too!

Good stuff Lou! I been trying to drop by the crib but everytime I think about it, it gets loco.

WHY U NO VISIT NO MORE!!!! it's all good bro... you're welcome to swing through anytime as long as you don't borrow anymore wine stoppers hahaha!!!!

I actually saw Thaesha a few weeks back but didn't get a chance to tell her of our blossoming friendship. She would be so happy.😀

Oh snap! Tell he I said what's up when you see her!

Cool! I bet that swimming is the probably the best thing you can do. Happy to hear man.

it's really is though! Pearl was asking me the other day if I planned on swimming after I'm back to normal and I definitely am... it sucked at first but now I love it!

GREAT stuff lou! really, man.

thanks! I'm definitely with you on the DFH and pain meds but I actually was on the couch at the time 😀 as far as the ice cream and other junk food, it was a necessary evil to keep me from jumping out of the window (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)... I put on a few (not sure exactly how much) but I'll lose it...

I'll grab some flats when I go visit Jay and the fellas in the next week sometime...

day 2

Morning:
I think I overdid it yesterday… my body is tired and the celebratory bottle of vino didn’t help much either. Got 7.5 hours of sleep but when I woke up I was just beat. Popped 2 Aleve and my multi, chugged 20oz of water and took a long hot shower. Made some oatmeal with teaspoon of honey on top, a cup of tea and ate a banana while I did the usual phone and email dance I do every morning. After about an hour my head felt human sized again so I figured it’s time to get it going.

Exercise:
I get to the gym and I’m really out of it – I feel like I have no strength at all so I just grab an exercise ball and just do 100 crunches then head over to the pool. The crunches didn’t help my head at all but after I did about 4 really lazy laps my head started to feel better and better and before I knew it I did 28 laps and felt pretty damn good (all things considered). I was going to do 30 but who the hell cares so I plopped myself in the hot tub for 15 minutes, washed up and headed home for some grub.

Moms are the best!
On the way home my mom calls and tells me she’s down the street and has some groceries she noticed I didn’t have (she’s the best!) last time she was here so I met her at my place and when I get there, she’s making some linguini and chicken concoction – now I don’t eat much pasta but hell if I’m not gonna eat free food! Drink a chocolate milk, take a shower, and partake in the free and delicious food my mom made and drink another 20oz of water. (sorry no pic – I’m still getting used to actually doing content).

After lunch I made some calls to USPS who somehow lost one of the packages I sold on fleabay and the medical company to come pickup the wheelchair, sort some laundry and other domestic poop, then change to do an easy hour on the trainer (or so I planned)…

Bike: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/197952000
So after about 6 minutes on the trainer I say F this – I feel pretty good, and besides what’s really the difference between the trainer and going outside other than, well - everything? I win the argument with myself by using the logic that outside should be easier since I can coast which I can’t do on the trainer so I change out of my bibs into a pair of cargo shorts and a Cannondale Evo tee Jay gave me a while back (hey at least I tried to wear something cyling related!) just so I can be casual and not kitted out with a pair of Chuck Taylors 😀

Whatever, whatever… out the door and I have the biggest sh!t eating grin imaginable until I realize 5 minutes later why we wear kits and not cotton meh. I passed by the Middlesex Greenway so I dipped in to check it out:

it's looks like this the entire way:
*flat (other than the highway overpass) and uneventful, but nice to know it's there

I turn around through Metuchen and stop at Starbucks (cargos and tee play better here than lycra) for some iced espresso a chocolate chip cookie, then head home.

Shower and consume another yummy plate of pasta goodness, another 20oz of water, and ice the knee.

I'm taking it easy and really don't have any expectations at all... just want to keep swimming to burn some calories and pedal to regain range of motion. Eventually I'll start lifting with the legs but that isn't going to be anytime soon... besides, the leg isn't 100% healed yet plus I only got screws and not a plate. OS said absolutely no impact like running or jumping for 6 months - another reason I'm not even thinking about a mtb until next year.

CONTENT!

I'm beyond excited to read and see this!!! Please don't over do it out of eagerness to get back out there...follow Doc's orders! xoxo

Glad to see you are back on two wheels!! Before you know it you'll be tearing it up in the woods like this never happened 🙂

I just want to echo what everyone else has said, glad to see you up and back on a bike.

In you're time off have you give thought as to what kind of cyclist you want to be. Are you gonna do the occasional race? Or dial back and just ride around? Are you going to get a new Mtb?

Happy for you Lou, great job getting back on your feet and finding stuff you can do to keep fit instead of excuses of not do. Right on.

Glad you hear you are back on your feet Lou, and two wheels! That's BMF news! Sounds like you have a good routine going, keep it up🙂

Yeah, I haven't heard anyone yell "F***" in the woods in a long time. Oh an when I saw the pic of the bike on FB I stood up and cheered....
