seans training blog:

hi, this is sean, this is my not really training blog on a nj mtb site from alaska....

my job as a suvey tech is basically like cross training, which is pretty sweet. however, it can keep me off the bike for long periods of time. like the past month and a half, which i spent in a remote native village on the bering sea cost. i didn't bring my bike( i should have). so i came back with significantly better upper body fitness from carrying heavy equiptment through the tundra and digging holes in permafrost for a month and a half of 12 hr days, but quite a bit less endurance in my legs. i felt it for sure on my local ride yesterday. lots of short, steep hills. i was fine till about the ten mile mark where i all of a sudden hit a wall... i think i need a folding bike to take out on these remote jobs.

so that's what i've been up to. spent all winter snowshoeing, hiking and riding tracked four wheelers(work) and riding and drinking(not work), and summer was mostly building stuff and working on equiptment in the shop, then working my tail off out in norton sound.

Yeah, I like pics as well. I especially like borders on pics. It's simple, but I think it really makes it look even better. I'm down with purple flowers as well.

Alaska is such an ugly state..... Lame scenery for sure....

Beautiful stuff Sean, I'd love to see it one day. Thanks for posting the pics.

I'd forgo riding my bike for awhile to be living the life in Alaska.
Is the brief summer more enjoyable than winter? Surrounded by all that beauty does it get old? Are there enough people around to have social life? Is Sarah Palin going to be missed as Governor...
hope you dont mind all the questions, just want to hear an honest opinion from Alaskan resident.

we have spummerall and winter as our seasons. spummerall lasts from around mayish through octoberish. we can ride on dirt pretty much half of the year, and have snow in the valleys generally from october through early may. snow can be had up high year round though. there're four+ glaciers within 25 miles of me, as the raven flies. the beauty never get's old, according to people who have been here much longer than me.

plenty of people around to have a social life. especially where i live, in the mat-su valley. if you want a social life, it's there to be had.

depends on what the next governer does.

Nice pics, glad things are still beautiful up there. Any plans on a return to NJ... so you can roll with proper villains again?

A slower, less skilled version of my former self will be appearing in the Northern New Jersey area during the week after Christmas, and would like to flounder about on the rocky trails in the Mahlon and Mooch area with you. More details to come. :getsome:

Week after Christmas, and probably some of the week after New years as well. I fly into Philly on the 26th(most likely), and back out of Philly on the 11th or so.

Cool yo. I should be able to do some longer morning rides that week if you're interested.
