saw the roadie pricks today

I had an interesting roadie experience during the 30/30 contest.
One morning I was tooling around my neighborhood gaining my hour in a particularly tough spot for cars to pass me through windy hilly Towaco. I heard a van behind me being patient so I tried my best to speed up and get out of the way. When I got to a straight section I slowed down and got as far over as I could and van dude passed me gently and super wide, I was grateful for that. As it passed I realized it was an AC Daughtry van. Hey! That's who sponsors the H2H race and Dave is great! As the van passes through this tight area he does have to cut back in suddenly as another van is coming up the other way. He was passed me, it was fine. But the van that came the other way, another AC Daughtry van!
WTF
Thought that was pretty wild.

I don't like flipping off drivers, I prefer an over the top wave after being honked at. If I'm in the middle of the road it's for a reason so they can deal with that.

If we wanted to get pretty technical couldn't we say driving is a privilege revocable by law where cycling has no true regulation? So the roads are ours? So "share the road" is really a statement to cyclists which angers drivers.

An angry enough driver can make the choice to kill you, so in the end just don't ride you bike anywhere and stay home and drink and watch football like a good american.

:thumbsup::shrug::hugs::dead::popcorn:

If the guy just honked I wouldn't have done anything, that happens alot. But this guy was screaming at me and I was basically doing the speed limit.

I gave the finger for the first time in quite a while to a dump truck driver that blew his horn just to scare me as i was well into an 8' shoulder.

I stopped giving the finger once I realized it is just too easy for people in cars to run you over, especially some idiot kids. If you do engage in such action, you best be ready to crack some skulls with your spandex clad 6" biceps or have a good escape plan where they can't chase you down.

THIS

While riding with @stb222, a car load of people screamed at us and I'm not sure what they said... I commented to Kev that I wish my bibs were easier to pull down so I can moon them. But Kev reminded me of how vulnerable we are and mooning someone could result in me dead.

THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL MOTORISTS
You may think you are saying something funny and really making us (cyclists) feel hurt but we can't hear you. Blowing by and yelling one word is only enough to get my attention, please follow with a second word which I probably also wont hear because you have since already passed. Please think about a megaphone or equip your vehicle with a PA so we can at least hear your clever insult. If you are intelligent enough to have slowed down you should be proud of yourself, only 1 in 10 yelling motorists acknowledge this helps relay the important message.

Please refrain from the word faggot, it's rude and unoriginal, Lance has been out of the sport for years and no it's not "nice spandex" its 3 seasons old and my shammy is unsewing itself.

Signed,
Concerned Cyclists

I have always done activities that were on the side of the road, skating, riding street on bmx, road cycling...Yelling out of a moving vehicle is about as effective as trying to sign me the insult while you drive by at 60 mph.

Smiling really big and waving > middle finger. Kill them with kindness. People hate that.
I approve this message.

I'll have to try waving. Been good about not saluting with the bird. However, this gesture has happened.

I don't road ride much, but when I do, I keep the bird to myself.

As others have mentioned, you're on a bike and they're in a car. Some people are nuts, so don't give them a reason to turn and do something stupid. Smile and keep riding. The bird won't change the world.

@Flaubert my view is they were scumbags that didn't affect my travel schedule. I took note of them as I was driving. No different than the asshats that cruise at 50mph in the fast lane. No excuse to be more than 1 wide except for passing or racing(on closed or controlled roads).

Yes, but people don't go post on a car forum every time they encounter an asshat driving at 50mph on the left lane. Maybe some do, I dunno.

In general, I agree with you. 50 cyclists taking up the whole road is not the best etiquette even if it is legal. But if I see it happening once or twice a year, I'm not gonna make a stink about it. There are far more car related issues that happen exponentially many times and are far more dangerous.

I think it's the way you originally posted and fact that 90% of people here ride on the road probably more than they do on trails that always gets this conversation going every year.

This group has done a phenomenal job integrating bike and walk ways. I'm sure someone on here could help

Yes, in West Windsor. Not to mention they are rogue when it comes to using current design standards and coordinating with the state. This is obvious when you see Bike Lanes in West Windsor that dead end into death traps. I am not saying they don't do good, but......

The Doppler effect factors in to these incomprehensible gibes as well. Lets not forget about the Doppler effect.

You never know who you will run into on the road, road rage is a serious issue. My friend had an altercation this past weekend in his car, he ended up getting stabbed in the face and will most likely lose an eye.

Joe Smoe almost hit you on a tight road, let it go. If he's sorry he will let you know. If he isn't, chances are you aren't going to convert him into a bicycle lover by trying to chase him down and curse him out.
