saw the roadie pricks today

My wife (with me in the car!) doesn't give cyclists much room when she passes. I always yell at her to give them more space. She just doesn't notice that its a tad too close for the rider's comfort. Being a cyclist I know it's too close. My point is most drivers who buzz you don't have a clue.

On the flip side, when cyclists ride 3 or even 4 deep on a road they know exactly what they're doing. That sh1t pisses my off. There's no reason for it other than to show dominance on the road. I have no problem zooming by and yelling, "Share the road a$$munch!"

@Mountain Bike Mike, my wife felt the same way.

It wasn't until she signed up for a charity ride and spent 50+ miles riding with me on pizza cutters that she understood just how dangerous the area to the right of the line can be.

Between the glass, broken pavement and the debris it's a war zone. I've said it a thousand times. "Bike lanes are the Devil!".

Personally, when I'm alone I ride just to the left of the line...unless there's a good shoulder, then I ride just to the right of the line. If there is damage to the pavement I'll ride as far into the road as I need to and them go back to where I was before.

Descending on the other had, I do as if I WAS a car. Well, because I'm roughly as wide as one and I'm traveling at (or above) the speed limit.

Why am I going so fast? Because I'm not @stb222. I HATE climbing! Hate it with a passion. But I LOVE descending... So if I'm dragging my sorry ass up a hill, I'm getting the payoff!

The logic checks out. I only get cat called when wearing baggies.

I've gotten cat-called by these two hotties

I don't necessarily agree. I mean, sure maybe at times. But sometimes the guys on the road ride side-to-side because there are no cars. Then a car comes when the road might be a bit dodgy, and a lot of people freeze up and have trouble navigating the rough pavement, the car behind, and the ride(s) to the right of them.

Not always the case, but I've seen this happen before. Also, the more out of the way the road is the more I see this happen.

That's what I do (more or less), no cars, side by side (never more than two) as soon as a car gets w/in 100 yards of us, we single up. Never on busy roads doe. I also never ride during rush hour unless it's on a very lightly used road..... Cuz drivers HAVE to drive then.

Wait, I like to go fast downhill too. I prefer spring hill as a descent and i think I brake on that turn but you can still rip through it. Dutchtown Zion is good too and has a nice run out.

You go uphill so fast it's only like a 2:1 speed ratio. I'm at like 5:1 cuz gravity 😉

Whew... yeah, that's a scary one. While I like to think I know what to do in those situations, stopping to confront is generally not the first reaction that comes to mind when getting chased. And while most of us could probably out-pedal a dog/wolf on a normal road bike, doing so a fully loaded touring bike is another story...

Mental note: If I ever do a road tour of the Alaska Highway - investigate packing heat. Even if I just buy it when I get there and sell it when I leave. They don't call Alaska "the last wilderness" for nothing...

I was thinking about this more knowing something about the murky rules of roadway jurisdiction. I checked my resources and 514 is a road that is under county jurisdiction (note that all county roads are not county jurisdiction) , anyways, the organizers may avoid a headache by getting the county's blessing (Somerset, Middlesex and Hunterdon) for that entire section of 54 between New brunsiwck and 202 instead of using say, Wertzville, which you would have to get the municipalities blessing on top of the county's blessing for 514, which may be more of a pain in the ass.

I believe Marshall "Major" Taylor himself rode this exact same route from Newark to New Hope @ 100 years ago.
