Running With the Foghorn Leghorn

I can top that... I saw it in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. It's that actual neighborhood he was talking about.

I saw Saturday Night Fever in Bay Ridge, my buddy's grand mother lived there and we spent 2 weeks in summers. One one the crew we hung with brown stone was rented for the movie. 8 th grade IIRC...

Yep, the club in question was on 18th ave just shy of 86th street. I walked past it daily.

The ground level ozone this week has been out of control. The air quality has just sucked ass. This may have something to do with you ride. I know I felt it particularly badly on T-Th.

just had the star wars book (aftermath) that bridges episode 6 -> episode 7 delivered. of course i'm out of town, so
it is sitting somewhere. will let you know how it goes, and then send it around if anyone is interested.

I saw one of the Star Wars movies in the theater in Washington, not far from you @jShort. Same theater and all. My step-brother and I got light sabers and before we were out of sight of the theater, at the traffic light going back into Washington, mine broke. I cried. This is about all I remember of seeing Star Wars in the theater. No memory of the actual movie. It probably scared me. Who knows. Anyway my step-brother is a dick for breaking my light saber.

So my problem with being pessimistic about the ride Tuesday is that I am so far off what I was doing a few weeks ago. I mean it kinda worries me a little bit. Not much but a little bit. You know I've gone through this routine before and it feels a little bit like I'm a bit burned out. That July thing would be a good candidate for that. But I'm also thinking this arduous heat has something to do with it.

My power has been up, hours up, weight down. So in terms of expectations on the year I was hoping to start this year on par with where I was last year in the cross season. And who knows, maybe I will. Just saying that Tuesday was rough, like real rough. Not "you're having a bad day" rough but "wow man have you ever thought about darts" rough.

Crossresults has me like 22/71 for this coming weekend. I don't like that. I think it's too high. Yes these number games are numbers games but it's like the Strava segment thing. If you get a KOM you sure as hell weren't the slowest to ever ride it. Maybe you weren't actually the fastest. But it's an indication. CR is usually somewhat accurate. I kinda want it to say 48 or something like that. Not 22. 22 is far too high.

Since I'm getting old and all, I have decided to start taking more days off. Wednesday was a day off. I did some work.

Julia came back at night and we had tacos for dinner. Luke would totally love this house. Tacos are a staple of the cuisine here. TACO WEDNESDAY.

Then we got ready for school to start. Party is over, kids. Back to jail tomorrow.

I broke my non dominant hand - we can still bowl.... Speaking of bowls... Kids bring a new meaning to things... Wife was dishing out ice cream thia evening for desert - party cake flavor to be exact. Cameron yells over, "Hey Ma" - "party in a bowl". I looked at the wife and said - "Times have changed" - "Party in a bowl used to mean something completely different before kids."

I must be too old. I have no clue what "Party in a bowl" used to mean.

Ethan doesn't even know tacos aren't called tacos. He knows them only as "Taco Tuesday".

We need to figure out this Cross results algorithm. Although it's got me mid pack in all my races, I don't like it. HOW DOES IT KNOW?

You guys are young. I remember taking my nephew to see Return of the Jedi when I lived in Chicago.

This old business is non-sense but I know you didn't really mean it. It is weird how perception of age changes over time. I remember my parents 40th and thinking how old they seemed. Now being 2 years from 40 it doesn't seem old at all.

Speaking of KOMs, or lack there of, I finally surpassed you on Zion road, which I rode a bunch in 2007? with the beat my time threads but since that time haven't ridden it that much as it is just outside my normal radius. This is something @pearl pointed out and was one of those things where I was faster on one segment and you were faster on a duplicate one.

Doing some fast math, that was probably the peak of your training, or maybe close to it and you were the near the same age as I am now. Maybe it really is all down hill after 40?

So anyways, go out and bury it.

Eh I'm heading towards 60 (3 years away) and still getting faster. Slowing down as you age is for chumps!

My luck. I'm sitting at a Star Wars themed table for my Cousins wedding. @Norm ,you in on this?

@Mitch wait until they break out the cyclocross tire-shaped wedding cake. That's the real gag.

@stb222 - no man I don't know. I'm not saying that age tops me out for power and speed and awesomeness and shit like that. I mean there are plenty of guys older, a lot older, than me who kick the crap out of me and lots of guys much younger than me. But I feel like my recovery this year has been tougher. I feel like this year it's been a bit slower to recover, things hurt more, and so on. There may be any number of reasons, up to and including it being totally in my head. I guess we'll see as time goes on.

Anyway, I'm just trying to take some days off as opposed to riding easy or taking off. So Thursday was on. I ended up going hard for an hour and a half. Just go hard, see what happens. Hit the lap button halfway through. First lap, 21.4. Second lap, well ended up at 16.2 but that included the last 2-3 miles of "ok I'm done here". I didn't really think I'd be breaking it down like this, otherwise I would have hit lap at the end of that lap. I think I was at 18.2 when I mailed it in.

So overall I think it was a decent ride. Did well at the start, you know for 45 minutes which is about the length of time I need to stay on for. I did manage to hold 20 overall for almost 1.5 hours and in the end it was 19.5 on a day that was almost 90 degrees. So ok, there's still something there. Didn't feel 100% but much better than Tuesday. So that's good.

Then the kids came home from their first day of school and we ate meatballs. Oh, here are the new shoes from the first day of school.

@Kirt had texted me the night before asking if I wanted to cut out some trees that had fallen at CR and I said sure. So we met up at 11 and walked around blue cutting stuff out with hand saws. Man that is a shit ton of work. I sweat buckets while we were out there. Again I was exhausted today. Just cooked. Felt like I had been hit by a truck when I got home. Ended up just laying on the couch, reading, listening to music. Oh and tying up some loose ends at work.

D made a bunch of zucchini fritters for dinner at night and then we watched TV and crashed out. Low-key night because I didn't have it in me to do much.

Oh oh I forgot. While I was eating a salad before I headed out to CR, I bit my tongue so freaking hard that it was still bleeding an hour later when we were out sawing down trees. You would think that after almost 44 years of shoving food in my face, I would have this down by now. Apparently not.

43 years really... You don't have any teeth the first year. At least not the one that will bite your tongue with
