Running With the Foghorn Leghorn

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Welcome to September and shit. So let's clarify this because I know it can be confusing sometimes:

Star Wars 1-3: The new stuff with Jar Jar Binks.
Star Wars 4-6: Han Solo, Luke, DARTH, etc

We watched 1-3 with the kids in Canada, then #4 the last night we were there. I remember #1 from when it came out and I, like so many other people, thought Jar Jar Binks was the Jar Jar Suck. Coming into it again with lower expectations I thought it wasn't nearly as bad as the first time I saw it.

#2 was worse than any of the 6, by far. The end battle could have been written by my 9 year old kids and it would have been more plausible. In fact, had they added Gallagher to the ending it would have probably made it better. #3 was the best of the 1-3 bunch by a lot. Of course I was pretty much totally drunk that night so maybe it wasn't quite so good. Reality is what you perceive it to be.

@JimN - that was almost a Clerks reference I think.

Anyway.

Tuesday I decided I was going to hit the bike hard and try to do some sort of 10 minute intervals. I will sum this up in a haiku:

Push the gas pedal.
Engine not go fast at all.
Fuck it dude, let's bowl.

Before I went to Canada I was feeling cautiously optimistic about these upcoming cross races. After this ride I have begun to have my doubts. I'm sure Yoda would have some wisdom about doubt, like he had with fear (Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads suffering). Then again, maybe my adage would be a sort of "all roads lead to Rome" commentary, but like all roads lead to the fridge.

I don't think you can let one ride impact your feelings about your fitness.

Then again, you have you check your expectations. Think about how hard your competition has been working and how hard you worked. And be honest with yourself....

Then reevaluate those expectations.

I broke my non dominant hand - we can still bowl.... Speaking of bowls... Kids bring a new meaning to things... Wife was dishing out ice cream thia evening for desert - party cake flavor to be exact. Cameron yells over, "Hey Ma" - "party in a bowl". I looked at the wife and said - "Times have changed" - "Party in a bowl used to mean something completely different before kids."

How's wiping your ass working out?

My parents watched star trek religiously, weirdos, I was not interested. Believe it or not I never saw star wars even when my parents went to the theater to see I saw The Who's kids are all right movie. Personally I was born before noon landing and being a cowboy as a kid was still king. I will watch every western movie good or bad before SciFi any day. Blazing Saddles to Gary Cooper in High Noon 🙂

You like Woody and Toy Story and Toy Story 2?

Summarize what the first 3 star wars movies are about. That's why they are so bad.
I'm a star wars dork and i can't even explain it. 4-6 have a plot. And characters with personality.

Did you watch the red letter media star wars reviews yet?
Best hour of my entire cinemagraphic life.

Loser.
I am proud to say that I saw Star Wars in a theater when it came out. I'm not a big sci-fi movie guy but if you grew up in the 70's I don't know how you missed this one.
Also seeing Rocky in a theater was even more impressive, people were actually cheering at the end of that movie.

@pooriggy funny you bring up loser because that's how I felt about every star wars dork.

On that note I love space balls which is obviously difficult for me to follow since it is a spoof off SW...

Um... Uh.... Ok, I suppose... Thanks for asking?

Broke the right hand, wipe with the left.... I'm left handed...

I appreciate your concern 😉

I'll add this to the list of things I didn't need to know..... 😉

High Noon is one of my all time favorites. The imagery is incredible. That shot of the railroad tracks leading off into infinity conveys hopelessness better than dialogue ever could.

I'll watch any western with Garry Cooper, Henry Fonda, John Wayne and some combo of the clan Mitchum.

So you need to rent SW 4-6 to get the jokes. Also #6 has princess Leia in a bikini for half the movie. Its interesting to see the transformation of princess Leia from the 70's where she looks doughy to the 80's where she is transformed by a personal trainer and bags of coke.

I enjoy the Spagesterns as well, but they're not really westerns. Great expressions on the actors faces, but no real plot or dialogue... Not they're fault since its at best a second language for all but Clint, Van Cleef and Eli.

WWII era military is on high rotation in my house. Thank G-D for TCM. 🙂

The original Star Wars is a western set in space. You might actually like it.
