Post Your Doggo [woof]

my inlaws had a dog that did nothing but chase the cats when they got him, he ended up being fine around cats after some work, ill ask my wife if she remembers what they did to get him to calm down since it sounds like your case is very similar.

you could also look into a trainer, or maybe one of those training collars
Thank you! I did call 3 already so I am trying to get in touch with them. Anything you find out is much appreciated as well. 🙂

Help! When shelters do a test to see if a dog will get along with cats, what do they do, and how do they know? Basically I am wondering if there is a way of telling how my pup will transition. Marlee is barking ferociously at Magnet, jumped the gate and lunged at him. Magnet is safe, but terrified and hiding. When he comes out, he does a low crawl. I expect hiding, I expect some barking and stuff, but how do I know if the dog is too aggressive to be around a cat? Marlee is afraid of everything else so I thought she would be afraid of the cat (she was never around cats before).

In the past, my cats and dogs always got along. It wasn't instant. In fact it took a few months, but there wasn't this type of aggression and drive.

Well I want to believe the adoption agencies and shelters do the best they can to screen the dogs for cat tolerance but i would say it might be best effort.

Since you have no real history of the pup's past experience the behavior he is demonstrating is somewhat natural, and just needs good training to correct to the desired behaviors.

I've got some experience with training dogs if you wanted to discuss more PM me.

Daily dog update: She sat and watched my cat without barking today (I let her watch the cat, then I make her follow me, sit, and follow other commands so she pays attention to me and will listen to me, then back to sitting and watching the cat). She goes in her crate all the time, so I give each pet their own time to roam in my apartment. I love the pup so somehow this is going to work. I have a dog trainer coming tomorrow. While I honestly think we've made big strides, it will help her and me to learn from a trainer. She is no longer terrified of my car cause she associates rides with hikes! She loves all kinds of poop more than any other dog I have had 😵

If she likes tall grass, make sure you check her for ticks after every outing!!
Yes, thanks. She is not on flea and tick preventative yet, but we have an appointment this Saturday to get everything done (vaccines, tests, etc). I discovered she doesn't like her butt touched when I was trying to comb her with a flea and tick comb. So much to learn 😵 😂

Yeah, this past week alone has been crazy town with the number we've picked off the Wonderpup.
3 this morning alone.
No matter how close we check him at the trailhead,
we find a few crawling on him after we get home.

In sad news, the founder of Eleventh Hour Rescue, Linda Schiller passed today from a battle with cancer. She was a friend, an inspiration and a force of nature. I asked her once how saving dogs helped humanity, her instant answer was “dogs make people happier!“ Crazy lady with a big heart.

Check this out. I got the pup submitting a bit for the cat. It was hard to get a pic while trying to manage her, but I got one.

So, now a request for advice: her blood work came back. They said she tested positive for lyme. The vet said that doesn't mean she has it though. I can confirm with another blood test for antigens. I can give her antibiotics just to be sure. Or I can wait to see if she exhibits symptoms. Not a fan of meds if she doesn't need them so that's out. Would you wait for symptoms or would you get the blood test? Some people have told me they often test positive and I shouldn't worry, but I am not comfy with that either.

I don't know if it helps but Buddy tested positive for Lyme antibodies few years ago. He was lethargic for a little bit well prior to the test(we thought that he just was bored or something) but never had any other issues. He's been fine ever since, the vet told us to just keep an eye out for any new symptoms or changes in behavior or appetite but that he definitely had it and there was no point in antibiotics at that time. Again, that was our case so take it for what it's worth.
