Please help..my backside hurts

i will try to be brief, I have searched and searched already. My bum hurts. I have always had discomfort while riding but since I mostly rode trails I spent a decent time standing up. Back in July I got really into road riding and my discomfort level went up to about a 6 or so. I recently bought a 2nd hand road bike and my pain level is like 8 out of 10. I can't sit more than 5 minutes. I have tried 2 new pairs of shorts with different padding, a new selle Smp sadle, and my old sadle I was using when I was borrowing a friends road bike last year. I set my sadle height and fore and aft using the old methods we all know. I have tried different angles on the seat. Depending on the angle my pain is either frontal in the area between both private parts or if I tilt it back a lil to relieve that pain then my typical sit bones hurt. The only time I find any comfort is on the drop bars, and it has always been that way. I can't remember the last ride I did where I stopped cause my legs were spent. ALL MY rides end from bum pain. I almost have tears coming out my eyes at times. Soo friends does anybody have any advice. I don't think more shorts or sadles will fix it I'm afraid. Any advice would be amazing!, I would be forever grateful! Also how would you rate your bum pain 1 to 10?

I got fit at Halters. My butt never hurts. In soggy weather like today I use some rapha chamois cream.

Yeah, I would start out with a bike fit. Saddle selection can be trial an error but it all should start out with a good fit on the bike.
For me it took a couple of trys to find a comfy saddle.

Sometimes it goes away if you just keep on doing it and your bum gets used to it. How many rides have you had on your road bike so far? Have you tried using your mountain bike saddle on your road bike?

I can sit on almost any saddle and go for hours now even w/o a chamois, but I have bum issues after 2hrs on the Specialized Toupe saddle. I suspect if I kept on riding on it for like a year, I would eventually get used to it, but I'm not that much of a masochist.

Have you tried without the pad? I rarely ride with a pad. I get a rash from the pad when it's real hot out. It's actually more comfortable to me without any chamois pad.

Did you just recently start riding a lot from close to nothing or have you been riding a lot for some time?
Have you been measured with an assometer and have the correct width saddle?
My arse is pretty picky when it comes to saddles (most are to narrow). I had quite a bit of trouble when I started riding more often but not quite as bad as it sounds for you.
A fitting isn't a bad idea to see what's going on mechanically as well.

Like others have said, bike fit is most important. I underestimated this for 20+ years, thinking saddles were the key...they are important but not as much as bike fit. Until the day I picked up a new bike from Halters a few years ago. Within a few minutes of Jason watching me as I rode around the parking lot, he found three things "off" about my position. A few changes in fore/aft position (including a setback seatpost) made all the difference...and that wasn't even a full-boat bike fitting. Go see Jason and crew.

you've wanted too long, get to your LBS
if you enjoy the pain, it'll only get worse on those 90 degree days

I agree halters is one of the best LBS. I bought my cross bike there and they did a great job on fitting. I've been riding heavily for about a lil under 2 years so I don't think it's a muscle needs to get used to it. I dropped the bars real low like a noob and I have no back issues and like the drop but I'm thinking my actual reach might be a tad long. I'm curious if cause n effect of too long of a reach would cause bum pain. Seat height and distance feels great and feels the same as my cross but this road frame is 1 cm longer top tube n both are horizontal, I believe steerer tube angles are the same as well. But on the flip side I feel most pain when on the hoods and tops, which would be the closer more upright position. Maybe I can get some pics going of me on both bikes and see what you guys think I lil more. I try to be a do it yourself person but I understand sometimes you just have to give In and seek professional help. Thanks friends.

slightly abnormal physiology? (the word abnormal being a medical term, not a derogatory one)
maybe @FitmanNJ could add something here?

describe the pain a bit more? is it "point oriented" or over a larger area? just under the skin?

picture of bike required, cause we like that stuff.

I wouldn't be suprised if I am oddly proportioned. My current width of seat is 140mm I think. The pain was always in that spot between both privates. To relieve it I always angle in front down which helps but then I slide forward I keep myself up with my arms. Moving front up can help but then my typical sit bones hurt. I'll try to get some pics.

I think I'm timid to get a fit cause I'm honestly scared I'm going to hear " it is what is it". The only thing I can think is maybe my muscles might need so e more breaking in. I've lost 30 pounds since I started road in July. Maybe I'm leaner in that area. And yes my properly fitted cross bike hurts too. But nowhere near as bad. Sucks cause I wanted to make a call to PFW this week and start some group rides now I have to fix my issue first.

Don't be. All shapes and sizes ride. Many have had the same complaints you have. A professional fitter will be able to identify why you are having the issue and set your bike up to properly compensate it.

Being a DIY'er is one thing, but take the guess work out of it. This has health implications, and what you're experiencing takes all the fun out of riding.

Is this the bike your currently having problems with? Set up an appointment with Jay and have him get you back on track and fit correctly.

The space between balls and asshole is casually referred to as "Taint." As in "it'aint balls and it'ain't ass." Used in a sentence as follows, "good god my taint hurts! I gotta stop letting norm kick me in it so often..." or, "hey guys, I just got a new razor. You gotta feel how smooth my taint is!"

Anyway, I don't think anyone asked, is this an aching pain or a rubbing pain? If it's a rubbing pain try out some sham butter (otherwise known as taint grease). Might solve your problem.

you need perineal relief! (perineum medical term for taint) that will get the saddle into the right position, and remove pressure where it isn't supposed to be.
other issues can arise from pressure there..

if you are leaning on the bars to take weight off your sitbones that is another issue (and it is an OTB problem waiting to happen)

to go way off the charts there, check adamo saddles - think Jason has the loaners ??

You maybe introducing other problems with the tilted seat
yes you get relief in the front, but then your sit bones aren't where it should be on the seat
